NOT EVERYTHING IN AN RV NEEDS TO BE A BED—AND NOT EVERYTHING NEEDS TO BE STORAGE, EITHER.
I’ve walked into RVs that boast storage for 5,000 pounds, but can only carry 1,200 extra pounds before they’re overweight. That’s not good design; that’s a disconnect.
We need to start looking at RV interiors from a comfort-first standpoint. What actually makes camping better? What makes being outside all day feel even better when you come in to rest?
In my opinion, a fold-out couch bed is worse than a tent and an air mattress, and I think most people who’ve actually used one would agree. Once you’ve felt the bars in your back or struggled with the setup night after night, you’d rather sleep outside.
What people really want are real beds that tuck away, not furniture that pretends to be beds. Give me bunk beds that disappear behind a curtain or cabinet. Give me a Murphy bed with a real mattress that folds down at night but stays fully made—sheets, comforter, pillows, and all. Or a powered HappiJac bed that lifts into the ceiling and comes down when you need it.
In fact, I have a simple rule of thumb—if the sheets can stay on it, it counts as a designated sleeping space. If you have to strip it down and reassemble it every day, it’s a compromise.
And that compromise means two things:
1. The sitting space is uncomfortable.
2. The sleeping space is even worse!
That’s not innovation; it’s marketing.
We also need to stop pretending every square inch has to do double duty. Sometimes a couch just needs to be a couch. Sometimes a bed just needs to be a bed. And sometimes you don’t need 14 hidden compartments. You need one really comfortable place to relax.
I’ve always said the primary bedroom in an RV is wasted space during the day. You sleep in it, close the door, and don’t return until nighttime. That’s why I’ve been a big fan of Murphy beds as they’ve gotten better! They’re more supportive, more functional, and able to store everything right in place. They’re out of sight, but not out of purpose.
Let’s also be honest about those “sleeps 11” floor plans. Sure— maybe they technically do. But at some point, you might as well toss a mattress on the kitchen counter and call it a bunk.
People aren’t looking for gimmicks. They’re looking for comfort, ease, and real-world usability. They want to know where they’ll sleep, and they want it to feel like their space.
So let’s stop designing floor plans for a bullet point, and let’s start designing for how people actually camp.

ONE OF THE GREATEST GIFTS THE RV LIFESTYLE GIVES US IS TIME —time with our family, time to explore, and time to create memories that will last forever.
Those of us with young children know there’s something magical about helping them roast their first marshmallow over a campfire, or watching their face light up at the sight of a landmark that many children will only ever read about.
These types of moments are powerful, firsthand learning experiences that shape who our children become. Knowing something because they've seen it or experienced it firsthand affects them in a way that reading about it can’t.
Traveling and RVing help build character, too. The experiences kids have while traveling make them more resilient, flexible, and adaptable.
So every chance you get, load up your RV, grab some snacks, take your family, and go. Whether it’s a weekend getaway or a cross-country adventure, the memories you make and the knowledge and experiences they gain will be worth every mile.

Do you really need RV insurance on your travel trailer?
As RVers, we know the allure of the open road and the freedom it offers. However, with freedom comes responsibility, including the important decision of securing insurance.
RV insurance is designed to cover various types of RVs, including travel trailers, toy haulers, motor homes, fth wheels, and camper vans. While liability insurance is not required for most travel trailers, having RV coverage could bene t you and your adventures.
• Protection against accidents: May provide nancial protection for repair costs, medical expenses, and liability in case of an accident.
• Coverage for theft and vandalism: Could help with repairs or replace your trailer with less out-of-pocket expenses if it’s lost or stolen.
• Natural disasters and weather events: May cover the cost of damage from storms, oods, or other natural disasters.
Is your travel trailer covered under your home or auto insurance?
While your home or auto policy can protect your trailer in certain instances, it can also leave you with gaps in your coverage.
*Available for RVs less than 6 years old, and a $250 deductible applies
insure your investment
For example, your auto policy may only cover your trailer while you’re on the road, not if you’re parked or at a campsite. The same goes for home insurance—if you’re on your home’s property it might be covered, but damage from a storm at a campground wouldn’t be.
What specialized coverages does Progressive offer?
Progressive offers a variety of specialized coverages that aren’t included on a standard auto insurance policy like:
• Roof Protection Plus®: Covers repairs or replacements for RV roofs, including if the cause is wear and tear.*
• Pest Damage Protection SM: Covers the cost of repairs from pest infestations.*
Con
dence on the road
Having RV insurance gives you con dence you’re protected no matter where you roam. From remote national parks to bustling campgrounds, RV insurance ensures you have the support and nancial protection you need if something goes wrong.
While insurance for your travel trailer may not be legally required, it’s a crucial investment in protecting your RV, nances, and peace of mind.

Top Three RV Resorts FOR CAMPING NEAR DISNEYLAND
By Chris Mott
Travelers
heading to the Disneyland Resort in Southern California will find tons of hotels and resorts nearby, ranging from budget motels to deluxe properties. You can even stay on the Disney property if you’re willing to pay top dollar. But if you’re arriving in an RV, your options are much more limited.
As a long-time former resident of Orange County, California, I’ve driven past RV campgrounds in the Disneyland area and across Orange County for years. Over time, some have converted to mobile homes or long-term parks, while others have closed, with the land sold and redeveloped into townhomes, apartments, or hotels.
A few have even been consumed by the expansion of Disneyland itself! In 2021, the RV Village on Ball Road became Disneyland employee parking. In 1996, the Anaheim KOA and the Disney Vacationland Campground were demolished to make way for the Mickey & Friends parking structure. In all, more than a dozen RV parks in the immediate
Disneyland area have vanished.
We now RV full time, leaving California three years ago to be closer to family, and we travel to Anaheim every year for a Disneyland Christmas with our kids. Unfortunately, finding a place to camp in our RV has become increasingly difficult. With few options available to campers, here are, in my opinion, the top three RV resorts for visiting Disneyland, plus two more that are open to campers with special memberships.
ANAHEIM HARBOR RV PARK
Located just north of Disneyland, this is the only RV resort within walking distance to the park. If you don’t want to walk, you can catch the shuttle. This small park offers full-hookup sites, a heated pool, showers, Wi-Fi, and even a mini-market. On the downside, it is surrounded by hotels and apartments, and there is a bit of traffic noise from Interstate 5. And a note to travelers with pets who are afraid of loud noises—this resort is directly across the street from
where the Disneyland fireworks are launched.
Though nicely maintained, this resort is basically just a parking lot. Sites are very close to one another, and larger RVs may have difficulty backing in. Smaller sites are narrow and may not accommodate opening of your slides. Check your measurements to ensure you book a large enough site.
ORANGELAND RV PARK
Just across the Santa Ana river, this resort is a 10-minute drive to Disneyland. The sites here come with full hookups, a patio table, and a small grass area. You can pick fruit right from a citrus tree growing on your site! Features include a heated pool, mini golf, Wi-Fi, a convenience store, shuffle board, a club room, an exercise room, laundry facilities, a dog park, and even dog washing stations. You can also take a short walk to grab a shuttle at the Regional Transportation Center.
There are restrictions on the make, age, and condition of your RV and you may be asked to send
in pictures of your RV prior to making a reservation. Vans, buses, and tent camping are not permitted. All campers must be self-contained. There is also a daily pet fee as well as restrictions on the size and breed of dogs allowed.
CANYON RV PARK
Nestled in Anaheim Hills, Canyon RV started its life as a county park. Its full-hookup sites are spread out across the 63-acre property. Features include a laundry room, a seasonal heated pool, a club room, a high-ropes course, restrooms, showers, a playground, and a reading room. With acres of trees and green grass, staying at this resort feels more like camping in a national park. A number of community events are held here, including company picnics, dog shows, family reunions, weddings, and scout events. In addition to RV sites, they have camping cabins and group sites.
Located inside the Featherly Wilderness Preserve and backing up to the Cleveland National Forest, there are a number of hiking and biking trails available. But note that there have been mountain lion sightings in the area.
When I travel to Disneyland in my RV, this is my go-to resort.
OTHER OPTIONS NEAR DISNEYLAND
While the choices for RV camping near Disneyland are becoming scarce, there are a few other places in the immediate vicinity for people with special memberships or affiliations.

Meet the Grounded G3 AN ALL-ELECTRIC CAMPERVAN READY FOR FOUR SEASONS
IF YOU’VE EVER DREAMED OF FINDING A CAMPERVAN THAT HAS A SOLUTION FOR EVERYTHING, the Grounded G3 might just be your next home on wheels. It’s brand new and we haven’t gotten to test it out yet, but the features the Grounded team shared have us very interested.
Built by a team of former SpaceX engineers and rolling out of Detroit’s Michigan Central mobility innovation hub, the G3 is Grounded’s most advanced campervan yet.
Nadia Meyer, Grounded’s chief product officer, said, “For our customers, the van is a culmination of their dream lifestyle and values. It’s an act of quiet rebellion to break out of the mundane and redesign their lifestyle to be filled with nature and beauty. The aesthetics and function of every detail are critical for such a compact space. Grounded’s design philosophy is form follows function.”
Meet the Grounded G3
The G3 is sleek and fully electric, offering 286 miles of range, all-season capability, and a customizable, modular interior. It’s designed to handle back roads, snow, heat, and whatever else you encounter on your travels. Whether you’re boondocking on public lands or parked at a campground, Grounded has engineered the G3 to go anywhere and help you stay put comfortably once you arrive.
Available Now
Several electric RV concepts have been announced, but there
are very few that are actually able to be ordered right now. The G3 is already real and arrived recently, in July 2025.
With a single-charge range of 286 miles, plus rooftop solar, shore power, and a 1,400-watt vehicleto-house charging system, the G3 gives you the ability to travel long distances, too.
Built on Chevrolet’s all-electric BrightDrop Zevo 400 or 600 chassis, it includes all-wheel drive, an 11,000-pound GVWR,
and industry-leading safety features like enhanced automatic emergency braking and forward collision alert.
Winter-Ready Features
Most RVers know that “four-season” doesn’t always mean comfortable in cold weather, but Grounded is working to change that. The G3 uses modular, self-heating LiFePO batteries built to handle freezing conditions.
The rear door has also been

designed to improve insulation and energy efficiency while offering a great view.
Overall, the G3 is designed to operate in temperatures as low as zero degrees.
Adaptability and Sustainability
The design of the G3 is clean and industrial, with aluminum-framed cabinetry wrapped in paneling made from 100% recycled, treefree materials, like household appliances and single-use plastics. These materials are said to be more durable than typical veneers, requiring little maintenance. They’re also available in a wide range of textures and colors, which can be seen in Grounded’s new online Configurator Tool.
G3’s modular layout is what sets
it apart. RVers can tailor the design to match their lifestyle.
Prefer a California King bed? You can do that! The motorized platform lifts to reveal a lounge or workspace underneath.
Outside the rig, you'll find a pull-out drawer with an integrated countertop and storage compartments for kitchenware.
App-Enabled Control
One of the most impressive features is the Grounded+ App, which lets you monitor and control almost every onboard system. You can check battery usage, tank levels, appliances, and more from your phone. The app even adjusts its interface based on your van’s configuration, so you’ll only see the options that match your build.

Our Most Challenging Renovation Project Yet
REPLACING THE SUBFLOOR IN OUR RV
By Gretchen Watson
We’ve been traveling for more than five years in our 2018 KZ Sportsmen travel trailer, and as a family of seven, there has definitely been some wear and tear. We’ve renovated every square inch of our RV, so we are no strangers to DIY projects. We’ve removed closets, replaced appliances, knocked out cabinets, painted walls, replaced flooring, removed carpet, and the list could go on.
We had been noticing some weak areas in our floors—the kind where it felt like we could fall through at any moment. It started with just a little give, and worsened over time until we could really feel and see the difference when walking in the affected areas.
We had this problem on a smaller scale when our slide leaked and water damaged our subfloor. That time, we repaired the flooring by cutting out the subfloor that was damaged, and replacing it with a piece of plywood. Unfortunately, this time, the problem was much larger, occurring in basically every heavy-traffic area.
We couldn’t find much information on how or where to start, but
my husband and his family have been in construction for a long time, so we came up with a plan of action to correct the issue and bring stability to our floors once again. This renovation was both the hardest and most rewarding project we’ve taken on.
The subfloor in an RV is the flooring that sits between the joists and the finish floor, such as linoleum or carpet. Its purpose is to offer structurally sound flat flooring for your finish floor. Plywood is typically used as a subfloor for its strength, but in some cases, and in most RVs, oriented strand board, or OSB, is used for its affordability. OSB is said to be strong and waterproof, but that doesn’t seem to have been the case for us. Since RVs are built from the wheels up, the flooring rests under your supporting walls, making it especially complicated to replace.
We chose to tackle this project by replacing sections at a time. After sectioning out what areas in our RV needed to be replaced, we realized more than 75% of the floors would have to go. The plan was to cut out large sections of the floor and replace the OSB with a sturdier plywood. OSB and

plywood are very similar in weight, so we were not compromising the weight of our RV with the swap. We measured out our cuts from the middle of one joist to the next, allowing room to anchor each new piece into the joist.
We began by measuring out the portion of floor we wanted to replace. Then, after marking it off, we began cutting the OSB with a circular saw and finished it up with the oscillating tool. Once the large portion of floor was cut, we pulled it up and replaced it with the plywood, then screwed in our new floor and moved to the next portion. Since the damage was in heavily-used areas, most of the problematic spots were not up against the walls, but rather in the middle of the RV. Because of this, we were able to cut a foot from the walls and protect the structural integrity of the RV.
So what caused our RV flooring to weaken? Upon inspection of the flooring we cut out, there was no water damage; it was basically just wear and tear. Over the four years we’d had our RV, the OSB had become weak and started to break down. As it broke down, it began to crumble, causing the give in the floors we had noticed when walking on them.
Since 75% of our floors were now replaced, we needed to lay a new finish floor on top. We chose interlocking vinyl planks as they add stability and are less messy to install.
Here are some tips when replacing the subfloor in your RV or your finish floor.
When replacing your subfloor, be sure to use the same thickness of plywood or OSB as your previous subfloor.
If you have slides, keep them in mind, since the slides must be able to roll over the new floor. Try a test area to make sure you won’t have issues closing your slides once the floor is down. The thickness of the flooring will depend on your RV slides. However, slides can be adjusted if you choose to do so.
When replacing items in your RV, always keep weight in mind. We try to take out weight and add equivalent weight to protect the structure of our RV and its moving parts.
Replacing subfloors in an RV is not an easy task, and I hope you never have to do it! That said, we are proof that it is possible, and the work is worth it.

RV HELP CONNECTING RVERS AND MOBILE TECHS
Heath Padgett, Dennis Lankes, and Josiah Mann
If you’re on the road or at a campground and a slide gets stuck or something breaks down, do you know what to do or who to turn to?
Finding a trusted RV tech can be a challenge, and finding one who will come to you can be even harder. That’s where RV Help comes in!
Newly co-founded by Heath Padgett, a former full-time RVer, and his business partners, the new business aims to connect trusted techs with RVers who need mobile service.
HOW IT WORKS
Download RV Help’s app or visit their website to get started. In the bottom menu, click the search icon. From there, you can enter your location and begin searching for a mobile tech or RV inspector.
You can filter by the service type you are looking for, including mobile repair, inspection, solar, generators, windows, detailing, towing/transport, education, and holding tank cleaning.
You can also search by certification. If you’re looking for a tech with expertise on a particular brand, like Aqua-Hot, Dometic,
Lippert, MORryde, Splendide, or Truma, you can select that to filter your search further.
The results can be sorted by best match, most reviews, or distance. One of the app’s best features is the ability to read and leave reviews for the technicians. This allows you to see other RVers’ experiences before you contact them for a service call.
The app allows you to make direct contact with the tech of your choice. You can see their bio, certifications, licensing, company website, e-mail address, and phone number.
RV Help’s directory can connect you with more than 2,500 certified RV service providers across America.
