Chairman’s Column Dear members, As we wrap up 2025 and start looking toward a new year, I want to extend my warmest wishes to all our members, partners, and colleagues across the country. The holiday season is always a good time to pause, take stock of where we’ve been, and appreciate the strength of the community around us. Stepping into the role of Chair at this moment is something I’m truly honoured by. This past year, we made meaningful progress, especially in advocacy. The tariff relief secured earlier this year brought real stability at a time when many dealers were managing uncertainty. It’s a strong example of what focused, consistent advocacy can accomplish and how it directly supports the day-to-day operations and long-term health of our industry. We also continued to move conversations forward with federal and provincial officials on issues that matter to dealers: workforce challenges, transportation policy, taxation, and more. Much of this work reflects the reality that our industry is built on entrepreneurial

spirit and small business roots. These wins were not accidental, they came from steady engagement, collaboration, and a shared commitment to protecting the independent dealers and family-run businesses that form the backbone of the RV sector in Canada.

Chairman’s Column Looking ahead to 2026, dealer success stays at the centre of everything we do. Education and training will be a major focus as customer expectations shift and technologies evolve. To support your teams, we will be launching a series of webinars throughout the year on market trends, operational best practices, compliance updates, and the tools that help dealerships run stronger. Our goal is simple: provide practical, accessible learning that adds real value on the ground, in the stores, service bays, and front-line teams where this industry truly lives.

Next year also marks a special milestone - the 40th anniversary of the RVDA of Canada. Four decades of advocacy, collaboration, and grassroots leadership is something worth celebrating. This association was built and sustained by entrepreneurs who saw value in coming together as a unified voice, and that spirit continues to define us today. As we mark this anniversary, we’ll not only celebrate our history, but use it as a springboard to elevate our profile and reinforce why a strong, dealer-driven national association matters more than ever.

The strength of the RVDA has always come from its members, from your resilience, your creativity, and your commitment to delivering exceptional experiences for RVers across Canada. As we enter this milestone year, I look forward to building on that foundation, strengthening partnerships, and ensuring that independent dealers and small businesses have the tools, support, and advocacy needed to succeed. Wishing you and your families a joyful holiday season and a successful, healthy new year.

Ken Dobson Chairman of the Board RVDA of Canada

Second Quarter Economic Review RVDA of Canada The Quarterly Economic Review is intended to deliver a comprehensive look at the economic indicators affecting the RV industry in Canada. These products are intended to provide members with current economic information, which can assist them in gaining insights into the changing economic dimensions of the RV industry and the economy at large. Executive Summary

Following a stronger start to the year, Canada ’s economic growth slowed significantly in the second quarter of 2025, with real GDP declining by 1.6 per cent on an annualized basis. The unwinding of front -loaded exports in the first quarter —driven by businesses attempting to get ahead of new U.S. tariffs —alongside the initial impact of those tariffs themselves, has begun to weigh on trade and business investment. Private sector investment declined in the second quarter, and signs of weakness in the labour market are becoming more pronounced. While employment rose by 83,000 jobs in June, 41,000 of those were lost in July. The employment rate dropped 0.2 percentage points to 60.7 per cent last month and is now 0.4 points lower than at the start of the year. Tariffs impact the world The second quarter of 2025 saw some challenges to the financial markets mostly due to continuing trade issues. Canada and the U.S. imposed tariffs on each other. Tariffs weighed on consumer and business confidence and slowed economic activity. As a result, there was uncertainty surrounding the Canadian and global economies. Despite that uncertainty, many equity markets across the world gained. The trade war took a larger than expected bite out of Canadian gross domestic product in Q2, but data still shows an economy that has weathered recent trade pressures better than feared when uncertainty was most acute in the spring. Trade-sensitive sectors have faced significant challenges. Exports declined sharply in Q2 and manufacturing contracted by an annualized 8%. U.S. imports of steel and aluminum products from Canada targeted with 50% tariffs decreased almost 50% year -over-year in July. But critically, most Canadian exports continue to cross the border duty -free thanks to CUSMA exemptions, and weakness remains largely contained to directly impacted sectors. READ MORE

Emotional Intelligence Drives a Happy Workplace

In today’s fast-paced work environment, it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle and forget that happiness matters. Yet an Oxford University study found happy workers are 13 percent more productive. Meanwhile, Mexican research revealed having a job with purpose, feeling appreciated and enjoying daily tasks reduces turnover intention. So, how do business leaders create a happy environment? By prioritizing emotional intelligence in the workplace. Also known as EI or EQ, emotional intelligence means being able to recognize and regulate one’s own emotions, having a high degree of empathy for others, and putting good social skills into action.

Workplace culture is a reflection of leadership

Having high EI and ensuring your employees are happy is a critical part of your leadership role. In fact, it’s often the difference between business success and failure. Consequently, being aware of the overall emotional state of your employees — and yourself — is crucial. Therefore, it’s essential to emphasize emotional intelligence in your leadership strategy. Creating a positive workplace means cultivating an environment that sparks creativity, fosters independent thinking and encourages constructive debate. It should be a space where employees feel secure, valued and motivated and are proud to represent your organization. By doing this, you’ll attract and retain top talent, drive performance and boost productivity. The payoff is significant: a positive work culture and happy employees have a direct and profound impact on your bottom line.

Here are some of the ways companies benefit from focusing on happiness and emotional intelligence in the workplace. Collaboration ramps up Happy people smile genuinely and often. But what about your employees? Do they smile at you and each other? Is there occasional laughter as they share weekend stories? Do they seem comfortable talking with each other in meetings or in the hallway? Is management approachable and open to discussion? Are there company events that encourage team and relationship-building among employees? These are crucial factors, as employees report that happy relationships with co-workers are a major motivator for remaining with a company. Employees go above and beyond How do your employees do their job? Are they simply going through the motions? Or are they performing at the top of their game? Do they receive regular recognition, or is their performance a shopping list in a yearly 360-degree assessment? Happy employees are more likely to develop new and improved ways of performing their tasks. They may volunteer for more work. How do your teams perform? Are they a tight unit, supporting and helping each other? Or is it everyone for him or herself? Employees aren’t dashing for the door Do your employees arrive right on time and sprint for the door at 5? Or do they arrive early, settle in, chat, ramp up and finish their day with a sense of accomplishment, regardless of the clock? This doesn’t just mean your workers are comfortable and happy in the environment, but they’re also demonstrating respect and good stewardship of the company and its resources. Employees are proud of their workspace What do your employees’ work areas look like? Stark and pristine, or messy and disorganized? Or maybe a clean space with a little of both, with personal pictures and items thrown into the mix? How an employee’s workspace looks depends largely on how they work best, but a dirty, chaotic space is a clue all’s not well in the land. A clean workspace is a healthy, productive workspace demonstrating pride in a job well done. A dirty, disorganized workspace impacts the quality of work and is unhealthy. An organization that promotes health as a critical element of its success is one that actively cares about its workers.

Employees are loyal Are your employees optimistic despite the anxiety of fluctuating economies and political landscapes? If business is rocky, can they count on a calm, firm, focused hand at the helm? Are they confident in leadership’s ability to guide them through rough waters? Staying calm under pressure and helping your team to do the same is an essential element of emotional intelligence in the workplace. And what of the work culture you’ve established? Do you micromanage employees, or do you empower them with clear expectations, guidance and the autonomy to excel? We’re talking about qualitative, not quantitative, leadership.

Employees are more charitable Is your organization community-focused? Do you create opportunities for workers to unite for a worthy cause, volunteer and perform charitable acts? Research says people are happier when doing for others, regardless of what’s happening in their own lives. Employees report greater engagement with an organization with community service embedded in its mission and culture. Employees are optimistic

Happy workers know what’s what. They know whether or not the company’s in trouble or doing well because leadership is regularly communicative and open. It’s important to clearly lay out tangible goals, expectations, company values and short- and long-term strategies. Employees can’t buy into what they can’t see or understand. If you don’t keep them in the loop, they’ll create a narrative that explains their sense of unease, one that’s usually far worse than what’s really happening. And they won’t engage if they feel managers aren’t being honest. The energy ramps up How does your workspace feel? Is there an air of creativity when you enter the office? Is it relaxed and productive? Do people look like they’re happy to be at work? Are you creating a workplace where people want to be for a long time? Unhappy employees tend to create an unhappy or disconnected atmosphere. Happy employees bring energy and engagement.

Focusing on emotional intelligence in the workplace and striving to have a better understanding of employees’ feelings leads to a culture of happiness, creativity and productivity. By making employee happiness a core part of your business strategy, you'll reap the rewards of a positive work culture, increased collaboration and a loyal, high-performing team. Learning is the Ultimate Success Skill for Our Generation By Dave Kahle Some time ago, one of my clients challenged me to record the 20 most important lessons I’ve learned. After a great deal of reflection, I eventually came up with 25. This is one. The pace of change has increased, the growth in complexity has multiplied, and information has proliferated at an unprecedented pace. We are in extraordinary times. And unprecedented times call for unique and disciplined approaches if we are to survive and thrive. The only sure way to deal with this pace of change is to nurture the skill of changing ourselves as rapidly as the world is changing around us. And that makes learning the ultimate success skill for our generation.

Definitions When most of us hear the word “learning” we often associate it with formal school, or perhaps seminars and company-sponsored training programs. While these are all means of facilitating learning, they don’t capture the essence of what I’m talking about. The kind of teaching/learning that is done in academia revolves around the transfer of information. The focus is on what you know, and the measurement is the score on an exam. For adults, on the job, the focus is different. Here it is all about behavior change. I often tell salespeople in my seminars “I don’t care what you know. You are not paid for what you know. You are paid for what you do.” Learning is the ability, on the part of the individual, or the organization, to absorb new information about the world or oneself, and to change one’s behavior in positive ways in response to it. The key is behavior change. Learning without action is impotent. Knowledge that doesn’t result in changed action is of little value. ************************************************************************************************** The key is behavior change. Learning without action is impotent. Knowledge that doesn’t result in changed action is of little value. ************************************************************************************************** Let’s say, for example, that you invest in a new software program. You bring in the trainers and dedicate time to training your staff on the new program. The trainer gives a final exam, and everyone passes with 100%. The next day, no one uses the new software. They learned it intellectually, but never made the leap to changed behavior. For adults, on the job, knowledge that doesn’t result in changed action is worthless. So, changed behavior is synonymous with learning. Whenever we speak of learning, we are talking about changing behavior.

This kind of learning, which I call Professional Learning, manifests itself as both a personal discipline, as well as a strategic piece of an organization’s culture. Professional describes both the mind-set of the learners and the approach to the challenge. It’s like golf. Everyone can golf just like everyone can learn. Eventually the ball will go into the hole. However, if you were going to make your living at golf, you would take on a whole different approach. You would seriously devote time, energy and money to the process of improving your golf game. Rather than being an occasional event, golf would become a key focus in your life. You’d invest in the best clubs, hire the best coaches, practice regularly, and create the necessary disciplines and habits. Improving your golf game would be a necessary avenue to financial survival and success. So, it is with learning in our frenetic world. Like golf, one can do it occasionally, or decide to be a professional. A Professional Learner understands that learning is the key to survival and success. He/she decides to make it a key focus in life, investing time, money and energy in the routines, habits and tools that will enable greater and more rapid learning. A professional golfer engages with some aspect of the game every day. So, too, a professional learner is occupied with the attitudes, disciplines and tools of learning. This kind of learning is intentional. Intentional means that the learner, or the learning organization, decides to learn. It doesn’t happen by osmosis. Just like one doesn’t accidently become a tournament level golfer, so too one doesn’t unconsciously stumble into becoming a Professional Learner. It is easy to understand the decision to learn a specific skill – say a new software program – as something that circumstances require occasionally. Occasional requirements to keep up with company dictates is not what I’m talking about. That’s a watered-down version of the kind of commitment to which I’m referring. This kind of commitment is to a lifetime of continuous growth. The intentional learner understands that the need to continually learn is the ultimate skill for success and survival in our hyper-frenetic age. So, he/she an makes intentional commitment to the life-long pursuit of continuous growth, deciding to build in habits, attitudes and skills that will enable continuous and life-long behavior change. This kind of learning is pro-active. It’s one thing to react to an employer’s requirement to learn a new software program, and it’s quite another to decide to develop the skill necessary for a potential promotion. The pro-active learner narrows in on a goal to be accomplished or an interest to be developed and takes the steps to acquire the skills and competencies necessary. Just like professional golfers are continuously focusing on one aspect of the game at a time, so Professional Learners keep a list of things to be learned. The list is dynamic, continuously evolving. Items on the list come from multiple sources: introspection, goal setting, and the stimulant of regularly engaging with new information. In a world that is changing as rapidly as ours is, the ability of every individual to learn and grow, at least as rapidly as the world is changing around us, is the fundamental skill we must master if we are going to survive and prosper in these turbulent times. And that’s why it is one of the 25 most important lessons I’ve learned.
