Dear Members, Each summer while our dealers are busily assisting consumers in fulfilling their RV lifestyle dream, the RVDA of Canada continues to work on numerous strategies to assist our members in maximizing their potential. One of these endeavours is ensuring that we participate in the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance pre-budget consultations process for the year. Consistent with last year’s theme of economic growth, and believing that more productive people and more productive and competitive businesses can lead to enhanced growth and prosperity, the Committee was interested in receiving submissions on the topic of productivity and competitiveness. We made sure to address these subjects in our submission. This year, we focused on 2 areas of interest. The first, being the request for increased support for skilled workers in the RV industry. Due to the geographic constraints of the existing training programs, the Government of Canada should create an Apprenticeship Travel Grant that could be used by those who are required to travel in order to undertake an apprenticeship training program. This Grant should be targeted towards those enrolled in programs that are not offered in their city, town or province. This Grant should be a taxable cash grant of $2,000-$4,000 per person per year in order to provide support for such items as travel costs, lodging, and care arrangements for families. The RVDA of Canada was also excited to see that the Government took a new approach to tourism throughout the country. Tourism is Canada’s largest service export and represents more than 2% of Canadian GDP. The Canadian Government has recognized that tourism not only creates jobs and opportunities for the middle class, but also serves as an important employer for both youth and newcomers.

The RVDA strongly believes that RVing is an accessible and enriching form of Canadian tourism. Therefore our second ask was that the Government of Canada should provide targeted and dedicated investment in camping/RV infrastructure in Canada’s National Parks. Investing in camping/RV infrastructure will play a critical role in the overall contributions of the tourism industry to future economic development and prosperity. We need to ensure that current parks can accommodate the RVs of today. Earlier this summer, the RVDA of Canada awarded $12,500 in bursaries to RVDA RV Service Technicians across Canada. The bursaries, sponsored by NTP-Stag Canada, valued at $1000 and $1500, were created to recognize outstanding achievements by students with serious interest and desire to succeed in the RV industry. We would like to thank all of the applicants for their submissions and while there were more applicants than bursaries awarded, we would like to encourage all RV Techs to continue investing in their education. There will be continuing education being offered this fall in Burlington for RV Service Technicians. The 2017 Trouble Shooter Clinic will be running the week of December 11th with three, different, 5-day schedules to choose from. All classes will be held concurrently and we have arranged for a motorhome and trailer for the hands-on portion of Spyder Controls electrical systems and for towing & hitches. Please contact the RVDA of Canada office for registration details. All the best, Sam Parks, Chairman of the Board RVDA of Canada

Canadian National RV Retail Statistics– June 2017 Board of Directors Executive Committee Canadian retail sales statistics are now available for both motorized and towable recreational vehicles. These statistics will allow dealers to better manage the inventory on their lot by knowing which units are selling in their area, which price points are attracting buyers as well as knowing the local trends affecting their marketplace. The RV retail sales statistics compiled by Statistical Surveys Inc. are the result of matching manufacturer VIN numbers with RV registrations. The RVDA of Canada endorsement agreement includes free access for national monthly figures only, for members only. Going forward, these figures will be published in the RVDA of Canada bimonthly newsletter and archived at the “RV Statistics / National RV Sales” link on the member side of www.rvda.ca. Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) and the RVDA of Canada wishes to inform you of the new Single Window Initiative (SWI) led by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). This initiative will help importers meet their reporting obligations under ECCC’s vehicle, engine, and vessel emission regulations. This information bulletin is intended for importers of products that are subject to the following regulations under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999: 1. Off-Road Small Spark-Ignition Engine Emission Regulations  2005 and later model year small spark-ignition engines rated up to 19 kW (25 hp), typically gasolinefueled and found in lawn and garden machines, light-duty industrial machines, and light-duty logging machines.  http://www.ec.gc.ca/lcpe-cepa/eng/regulations/detailReg.cfm?intReg=81 2. Marine Spark-Ignition Engine, Vessel and Off-Road Recreational Vehicle Emission Regulations  2012 and later model year outboard and inboard engines, and personal watercrafts.  2015 and later model year vessels with fuel tanks and/or fuel lines installed.  2012 and later model year snowmobiles, all-terrain vehicles, utility vehicles and off-road motorcycles.  http://www.ec.gc.ca/lcpe-cepa/eng/regulations/detailReg.cfm?intReg=109 4. ECCC’s vehicle, engine and vessel emission regulations establish performance based emission standards that generally align with those of United States’ Environmental Protection Agency. They apply to all companies in the business of manufacturing, distributing or importing (new or used) prescribed classes of vehicles, engines or vessels for sale, and to all persons who import them for their own use. These Canadian regulations require I mporters to submit importation declarations to ECCC. The implementation of the SWI will now enable importers to satisfy ECCC’s requirements to file an importation declaration by integrating the declaration with other data submissions required by CBSA and other government programs, through a single electronic portal utilizing the Integrated Import Declaration (IID). SWI is currently a voluntary program aimed at modernizing and aligning Canadian and United States import processing procedures under the “Beyond the Border” action plan: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/ btb.asp. The benefits and goals of SWI include streamlining the importation process, eliminating redundancies, reducing paperwork burden, increasing data harmonization for imports into both Canada and the United States, and ideally reducing clearance times for shipments requiring formal entries. When a SWI submission is received by CBSA, they will transmit applicable data elements directly to the ECCC for their review and retention. This allows ECCC to receive the data in real time, allowing the department to engage with stakeholders as needed. If importers enter data for optional fields, SWI should also provide the added benefit of reducing the effort to produce mandatory annual reports required for certain regulations. As more brokerage firms are qualified by CBSA to manage SWI submissions, ECCC is encouraging members to take advantage of the benefits that this new method of reporting provides. More information on the regulations, including annual reports and associated templates, can be found at the web links provided above. Questions on the regulations can be directed to the contact information below: ECCC CONTACT INFORMATION: Regulatory Administration Section, Transportation Division Environment and Climate Change Canada Phone number: 819-420-4216 Email address: ec.infovehiculeetmoteur vehicleandengineinfo.ec@canada.ca Additional information about SWI can be obtained from Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) at: Web-link http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/prog/sw-gu/menu-eng.html E-mail CBSA.SW_Pr ogr am-Programme_Du_GU.ASFC@cbsa-asfc.gc.ca Phone: 613-954-7631

Dealer Satisfaction Index Survey This is one of the most highly anticipated surveys for the year. Please give feedback on the 2017 Dealer Satisfaction Index (DSI) Survey Survey deadline is October 2, 2017

Start Survey Please complete a survey for each dealership location

Do you have something to say about any of the 20 motorized and 131 towable RV brands? Everything is important but what is the first quality you look for in a brand? What are you currently experiencing with all the brands you carry? RVDA of America’s annual Dealer Satisfaction Index (DSI) survey asks for your level of satisfaction and your collective responses form a basis of discussion at the Partners in Progress committee meetings. A combined voice will always be stronger than a single voice. If you believe you and your fellow dealers share a similar experience, encourage everyone to participate in the DSI survey so the results can be compiled and tabulated. The criteria for the survey are: Reliability/Quality Parts Warranty Sales Overall rating These ratings are also used to qualify for the Quality Circle Award. In order to receive an award, brands/ manufacturers must receive at least 15 ratings and score 80 percent or above (or 4.0 or above on a five-point scale) in overall dealer satisfaction. The bar has been raised and we strongly urge you to rate all the brands that you represent. We also encourage you to include any other comments you may have. Please answer all questions as surveys with missing responses cannot be tabulated. Please complete the 2017 DSI survey online. The deadline for completing the survey is October 2, 2017. All responses are tabulated by an independent research company, and only aggregate numbers are released. If you have any questions or have recently taken on a new brand and would like to be a part of a brand committee, please contact Jeff Kurowski at RVDA of America at 1-800-336-0355 ext. 121.
