27-29 NOV & 3-6 DEC 2026 CHIANG MAI, THAILAND
As it enters its 2026 edition, HOKA Chiang Mai Thailand by UTMB® embarks on a pivotal new chapter, proudly securing its status as the UTMB® World Series Asia Major for the next six years. More than just an international trail running event, it has evolved into one of Asia’s most influential platforms, seamlessly integrating sports, tourism, and the rich culture of Chiang Mai for a global audience. The resounding success of last year’s event highlighted Chiang Mai's extraordinary potential, welcoming over 10,000 athletes from more than 90 countries — including world-class elites and passionate international sports enthusiasts. Building on that momentum, the event continues its expansive format across two iconic venues: Doi Inthanon National Park and Chiang Mai PAO Park. By spanning two incredible weekends, this schedule is purposefully designed to encourage longer stays, offering athletes and their families the perfect opportunity to deeply explore the region, embrace the local culture, and truly discover the wonders of Thailand beyond the trails. Today, it stands undeniably as a premier global stage for the international sports community.
NATIONAL STRATEGY & GOVERNMENT COLLABORATION Government Direction: Initiated in 2019 under the Prime Minister's directive, this strategy positions trail running as a primary catalyst for driving Sports Tourism. It focuses on developing accessible, world-class training grounds within national parks to attract a global community of runners, thereby generating national revenue and establishing annual international sporting events.
Strategic Partnerships: The Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), under the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, leads this operational framework. SAT works in strategic synergy with key government agencies—including the Ministries of Defense, Interior, Natural Resources and Environment, and Public Health—to execute this major national-level competition.
Elevating to World Standards: By securing hosting rights from UTMB® International—the premier global trail running organization—SAT leverages world-class expertise to elevate Thailand’s event management standards. This strategic move successfully propelled Thai courses into the prestigious UTMB® World Series, accelerating Thailand's prominence on the global stage.
