Learn the basics of Spanish in a fun and supportive environment! This beginner class introduces essential vocabulary, simple grammar, and everyday conversation skills to help you start speaking and understanding Spanish with confidence. No prior experience needed.

Katie is a New Hampshire native who found a passion for Spanish beginning at age 11. Since then, she studied the language through college and graduated from Plymouth State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and Theatre in 2023 Katie is a strong advocate for learning any second language, as it has enriched her life by allowing her to form lifelong friendships with people she would not otherwise have known She is always excited to share her knowledge with others and strives to create a judgement free environment to make learning Spanish as fun as possible.

During World War II, the roles of women underwent a dramatic transformation as they stepped into positions traditionally held by men. With a significant portion of the male workforce enlisted in military service, women were called upon to fill the gaps in industries vital to the war effort They took on jobs in factories, producing munitions, aircraft, and other essential materials, becoming collectively known as "Rosie the Riveter " This symbol of female empowerment and strength marked a pivotal shift in societal norms and expectations.

James A Baer is an emeritus professor of Latin American history at the Alexandria Campus of Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) He received his Ph.D. from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. At NOVA, Dr. Baer enjoyed the challenge of teaching students from more than 150 different countries. He was awarded a Fellowship for College Teachers from the National Endowment for the Humanities and served as the Virginia Chancellor’s Commonwealth Professor He is the author of several journal articles on Cuban Protestants and Argentine social history. His book, Anarchist Immigrants in Spain and Argentina, is a transnational study of anarchists and their impact on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. His latest book, Citizen Engagement in Cuba, Neighbors and the State in Pogolotti was published by Lexington Books in February 2024 He enjoys hiking and kayaking and speaking on board cruise ships

Steve Herholtz, CEO of B&S Inc , is a native of Central New York who has called Virginia home since 1986 Following a successful 38-year career as a Program Manager with Lockheed Martin, Steve retired and shifted his focus to community engagement and storytelling. A resident of Warrenton with his wife, Beth, he has been a dedicated Volunteer in Park (VIP) at Manassas National Battlefield Park since 2013, where he is known as the “Swiss Army Knife” of volunteers for his versatility and engaging battlefield talks In 2017, he expanded his passion for history and storytelling by sharing presentations on local history, world travel, and craft breweries with senior communities across Northern Virginia. He also currently leads the Brand Ambassador team at Old Bust Head Brewery in Vint Hill, combining his love of history, communication, and community connection

The Battlefield High School Robotics Team will come give a presenttation about their robots, what goes into making them, and show videos about their recent compeitions They will bring the robots so residents can see how they work in person

Battlefield High School in Haymarket, VA, hosts a robust robotics program, highlighted by the accomplished ILITE FRC Team 1885, which competes in FIRST Robotics Competitions The school also supports FTC (FIRST Tech Challenge) robotics teams and offers specialized robotics coursework through its CASIIT program, focusing on engineering, design, and technology development.

A representative from the PWC Teaching Garden will come give a presentation to us and we will go visit the Teaching Garden as an outing sometime after the presentation

Celebrating 25 years, the Teaching Garden is located on the grounds of the Benedictine Monastery and is a project of the Prince William Master Gardener Volunteers The Teaching Garden began as a garden to grow fresh produce for the Plant a Row for the Hungry project and a place where Master Gardeners could teach homeowners how to grow vegetables. Today the Teaching Garden provides an aesthetically pleasing, well-designed, educational garden space through which Virginia Cooperative Extension Prince William staff and Master Gardener volunteers can demonstrate and provide classes on a wide variety of recommended horticultural and water quality practices for the benefit and education of the greater Prince William community.
