Paula Roman’s mixed media art class invites students to explore creativity by working with a variety of materials and techniques from paint and collage to texture and personal expression. In a supportive, small-group environment, Paula guides participants through hands-on projects that build confidence and artistic skill, encouraging experimentation and individual artistic voice.

My artistic journey started when I was 8 years old. Paula Roman-Leon loved to draw and paint as a child and took many classes. After high school, she attended Portland School of Art 1981-1983. Known today as MECA in PORTLAND ME. There, Paula studied different types of mediums. She minored in drawing and majored in Graphic Design After art school, she was an industry veteran in graphic design for over 20 years After having her 4th child, she freelanced as an illustrator and designer. Paula helped with a few projects in collaboration with other artists at Nick Jr. in New York and was part of a successful 9 year running of the show called “Olivia”. I created the setting for the characters. I feel I really don’t have a distinct style. I like to explore subjects that interests me Paula works now as a teacher in drawing, painting and crafts classes for all ages

In this three-part lecture series, we revisit art history through a long-overdue lens, exploring the lives, works, and legacies of women artists who have too often been overlooked, marginalized, or written out of the canon
Art with Tosca was founded in 2021 by Tosca Ruggieri, a French-Italian art historian and licensed professional tour guide based in Washington, D.C. She is a member of the Guild of Professional Tour Guides of Washington, D.C. Growing up surrounded by the artistic treasures of Northeastern France and Tuscany, Tosca developed a deep appreciation for art from an early age She went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Art History in Paris, followed by a Master’s in Art & Archaeology from EPHE-Sorbonne and a Master’s in Arts & Cultural Management from King’s College London.

Her career began in the exclusive world of private art collections, where she honed her expertise in curating and connoisseurship She later worked in renowned galleries across London and taught art history at a French university before bringing her passion for storytelling and artistic interpretation to a wider audience. Now based in Washington, D.C., Tosca designs and leads expertly curated tours at the National Gallery of Art, the Phillips Collection, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the National Portrait Gallery, and other cultural institutions Her tours offer a compelling journey through art history, spanning from the Italian Renaissance to Modern art.
Through Art with Tosca, she is dedicated to making art accessible, engaging, and thought-provoking Whether through immersive museum tours or dynamic virtual and in-person lectures, Tosca’s mission is to connect audiences with the rich narratives and cultural significance behind the world’s most celebrated works of art.

Donna Haase had a 24-year Navy career as a hospital corpsman and nurse. Haase spent nine years in semi-retirement working at the Hershey Story Museum which chronicles the life of candy maker and philanthropist Milton S Hershey She then decided to literally take her show on the road Experienced and FUN certified chocolate speaker teaching about how chocolate is made from the bean to the bar, from the farm to the factory.

This lively session explores how real-life experiences, imagination, and curiosity become powerful stories —proving that creativity has no age limit.

Kimberly Baer is an award-winning author and professional editor who was born and raised in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, a town marginally famous for having endured three major floods. She even lived there during one of them. She currently resides in northern Virginia, where she enjoys power-walking on days when it’s not too hot, too cold, too rainy, too snowy, or too windy. Kim has had her nose in a book practically since birth. Her first story, written at age six, was about a baby chick that hatched out of a little girl’s Easter egg after somehow surviving the hard-boiling process

Life and Times of Albert Gallatin: The Path to and Creation Of the Constitution"

Mr. Duquette, originally from Springfield, Massachusetts, is a descendant of a French soldier from 1640 He holds a Bachelor of Letters in French Language and Literature from Middlebury College (1974) and a Master of Science in Government from Campbell University (1984) After serving 20 years in the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant, he developed a passion for theater, performing in various genres, including French and Shakespearean plays. He has portrayed historical figures like Harry Truman and the Marquis de La Fayette Mr Duquette is available to answer questions about Mr Gallatin and assist with scheduling visits for organizations

Pianist Quentin Walston will take listeners through a musical history of jazz. Performing a selection of works and styles from James P. Johnson to Dave Brubeck, Quentin will share the nuances of ragtime and stride piano, bebop and contemporary jazz. Learn about each style and artist in jazz’s vibrant history and engage in a Q&A with Quentin afterward

Quentin Walston is a pianist, composer, and music educator from Loudoun County, Virginia. He performs as a solo jazz artist as well as with his trio in the Northern Virginia and Washington D C area Although a pianist now, Quentin started his music career as a folk singer and guitarist While studying piano at James Madison University, he switched to performing jazz, seeking to blend it with his earlier influences. Quentin released his first fulllength album, Play, in June of 2019, which highlights his compositional style and musical influences. He continues to lead his own groups, performing originals, jazz standards, and arrangements of folk songs Quentin is also an active composer and arranger, writing for students and ensembles in Northern Virginia

When performing at senior centers, she creates thoughtful programming geared towards both recognizable music and songs that have themes that can resonate with a more mature population. Dr James Baer is an emeritus professor of history at the Alexandria Campus of Northern Virginia Community College. He received his Ph.D. in Latin American History from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. He was awarded a Fellowship for College Teachers from the National Endowment for the Humanities and served as the Virginia Chancellor’s Commonwealth Professor from 2003 to 2005 Dr Baer is the author of several articles on Argentine social history and Cuban Protestants. His book, Anarchist Immigrants in Spain and Argentina, is a transnational study of anarchists and their impact on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. Dr. Baer’s latest book, A Social History of Cuba’s Protestants: God and the Nation, is published by Lexington Books
