RUI University is a multifaceted curriculum that promotes purposeful living. The program supports intellectual wellness by allowing residents to critically think and examine topics from a variety of disciplines. Residents engage with peers and visitors in discourse and work through questions collaboratively.

Emily Basto received an MS in Art Therapy from Eastern Virginia Medical School in 2009. She has her undergraduate degree in Sociology and Anthropology. Her interest in other cultures and customs influences many of her art projects She currently works with older adults and really enjoys this community in various settings Emily hopes to continue to promote art therapy services and highlight the many benefits

Today, Norfolk Botanical Garden includes 175-acres, with more than 60 themed gardens that can be viewed by tram, boat or by foot. Themed gardens include the Bristow Butterfly Garden, the Sarah Lee Baker Perennial Garden, the Virginia Native Plant Garden and the Margaret Moore Hall Bicentennial Rose Garden Each of these gardens allow guests to see a variety of plants – from the cultivated to the wild.
Norfolk Botanical Garden provides an educational experience while entertaining visitors of all ages More than twenty thousand children and adults are reached every year at the Garden by programs, classes and Norfolk Botanical Garden lectures Volunteers provide more than seventeen thousand hours each year working in all aspects of the Gardens operations. From its humble beginnings as a WPA project to its status as a nationally recognized garden that attracts visitors from around the world, Norfolk Botanical Garden has experienced amazing growth

A review of the history of the city of Virginia Beach and the significant events that have helped shape our city to what it is now.

In 1974, a group of local carvers formed the Back Bay Wildfowl Guild hoping to showcase the wildfowl art, carvings, artifacts, and photographs of our area. When the City of Virginia Beach purchased the historic de Witt Cottage in 1992, the Guild thought this would be the perfect location for their museum Together, the guild and the Virginia Beach Foundation converted the 100 year old cottage into a waterfowl museum, gift shop, and home for the Guild.

The Virginia Air & Space Science Center offers an exciting liquid nitrogen demonstration, often called the "Space Freeze Program". During this interactive show, an educator uses extremely cold liquid nitrogen to demonstrate how materials react to extreme temperatures. Guests watch everyday objects freeze, shrink, become brittle, helping illustrate the science of temperature and how extreme cold affects different materials

As one of only 15 official NASA Visitor Centers in the United States, the Virginia Air & Space Science Center (VASSC) offers immersive, hands-on experiences that bring STEM education to life From exploring cutting-edge technologies to engaging with interactive exhibits and uncovering the past, present, and future of space exploration, VASSC inspires visitors of all ages with the boundless potential of science and innovation.
Proudly serving as the official visitor center for NASA’s Langley Research Center, VASSC connects the public to the pioneering research and discoveries shaping our world and beyond while sparking curiosity and a lifelong passion for exploration

Sparrow Haynie plays and sings familiar songs on her guitar while the residents are able to sing along She also provides different hand held instruments that she distributes to residents where she teaches about keeping a beat. The songs are based around the theme of the month or holiday of the month.

Music has always been a passion of mine, especially the guitar. Sparrow studied Music Therapy at Charleston Southern University and pursued my degree in that as well I love how meaningful, engaging, and uplifting music can be for certain individuals Through singing, rhythm, and simple instruments, individuals are able to express themselves, reduce anxiety, and experience moments of connection. That is what she enjoys most about providing Music Therapy.

Our residents will be given the chance to engage in African bongo drumming sessions where they explore rhythm, movement, and music together. Guided by an instructor, residents use hand drums to create simple beats and follow along with lively rhythms.

Recognized by the Virginia Symphony as one of Hampton Roads' Top 30 Music Educators in 2015, Lois has a vast musical background. She has been a church music director for over 30 years, leading singers, ringers, and world drummers of all ages More than half of her career has now been spent at Hilton Presbyterian Church, the home of High Notes Music School After 20 years in the classroom, Lois decided to open her own music school She has been a presenter for Virginia Wesleyan Summer Church Music Conference, Massanetta Springs Worship and Music Conference, and Handbell Musicians of America on the national and regional levels.
