Lunch & Learn: Investing in Those Who Invested in Us

March 5, 2026 at 12:00 PM

Veterans Serving Veterans: Navigating the VA

As a Navy Veteran, Matt Jones knows that the toughest part of being a vet shouldn't be getting the care you deserve. At FirstLight Home Care, we are proud to be part of the VA Community Care Network (VACCN), making it easier for veterans in Hampton Roads to receive high-quality care in their own homes, paid for by the VA.

How We Help You Access VA Benefits:

• Community Care Network (CCN) Provider: If the VA cannot provide the care you need at a VA facility, they can refer you to us. We work directly with the VA to provide Homemaker and Home Health Aide services at no or low cost to eligible veterans.

• Streamlined Referrals: We guide you on how to speak with your VA social worker or primary care team to request a referral to FirstLight.

• Aid & Attendance Coordination: We help families understand and apply for the Pension with Aid & Attendance benefit, which provides a monthly payment to help cover the cost of inhome care for veterans and surviving spouses.

Veteran-Specific Services

Because Matt and his team understand military culture, our care is tailored to the unique needs of those who served:

• Service-Connected Support: Assistance with ADLs (Activities of Daily Living) like bathing and dressing for those with service-related injuries

• Respite for Caregivers: Giving military families and spouses a necessary break while ensuring their veteran is cared for by someone who "speaks the language."

• Reliable Logistics: We bring discipline to our scheduling.

From Special Ops to Specialized Care: Meet Matt Jones, the heart and grit behind FirstLight Home Care Matt’s career has been defined by a single mission: Service

• The Navy: Served 8.5 years as a Navy Special Operations Diver, completing multiple deployments with a focus on precision and discipline.

• The Front Lines: Following an honorable discharge and graduating from Old Dominion University, Matt served for over 6 years as a Virginia Beach Firefighter

• The Vision: While responding to calls throughout Hampton Roads, Matt saw a critical gap in the quality of home care available to our citizens

Matt founded FirstLight Home Care to bring the same attention to detail and unwavering integrity he practiced in the military and fire service to the families of our community.
