Portland Winterhawks alternate captain Alex Weiermair has put pen to paper on a three-year, entry-level contract with the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights.
“It’s unbelievable,” Weiermair said. “If you had told me this almost a year ago, I wouldn’t have believed you. I’m just so thankful to everyone who has helped me along the way. It starts with my parents, mentors, coaches, and this organization. I’m super happy and thankful, but hopefully it’s just the beginning.”
The 6-foot-1, 207-pound Los Angeles native and Jr. Kings alum leads the WHL’s Winterhawks with 32 goals (including four game winners) and 43 assists for 75 points in 57 games.

I’m going to stray from hockey this month to reflect on the one thing that matters most in this world – family. My mother-in-law passed away this past Sunday and it’s been tremendously tough on the family. Yes, she was my wife’s mom, but she was my mom, too. She treated me like a son for 24 years. And while dementia took her from us about eight years ago, parts of who she was sometimes snuck out and made us laugh. Even in her final days, we laughed as we remembered Beverly Ann. Now we have to figure out life without her. We’ll move forward and I know we’ll meet again. I love you, Beverly Ann! Back to hockey, want to join the program here with Rubber? Call or text me at (248) 890-3944 or get all the details by sending me an email at mackindermedia@yahoo.com. Until this time next month... --Matt
