During our work on Mr. Simmons home, we were able to install grab bars and new accessible fixtures in both of his bathrooms to avoid falls, replace aged and usafe waterlines, secure and provide new railings inside and outside, add bracing to an essential structural beam in the attic, and provide adequate light fixtures to help Mr. Simmons navigate with low eyesight. To the right you can see all of the factors on our Safe and Healthy Home CheckList, plus some additional items, we were able to repair in order to ensure Mr. Simmons’s and his family’s ability to remain living safely in their home.

PRESERVATION IS INCREASINGLY URGENT IN NASHVILLE 4
Nashville is experiencing the most intense gentrification in the United States according to a recent report published by the National Community Reinvestment Coalition. This means that longtime Nashvillians are currently, and will continue to be displaced. As more and more Nashvillians in every part of our city experience the pressure of displacement, Nashville’s historic housing stock, and homeowner population is in danger of disappearing.
Data shows homeowners are more involved in civic engagement and volunteerism and are more likely to vote compared to renters. Homeownership can also lead to greater neighborhood satisfaction and have some indirect effects lowering crime rates.*
Through preservation of existing homeownership by repairing homes at relatively low investment, we can keep long-time Nashvillians, and their famlies, for generations to come right here in Nashville.

FUNDING RTN IS A GREAT RETURN ON INVESTMENT (and more effective than new construction with less money)
Every dollar invested in RTN directly supports empowering a Nashville homeowner staying in their home. To provide homeowners with all of the tools they need to keep living in their homes, RTN offers wrap-around services by working with local partners like The Store and Vanderbilt University School of Nursing to provide access to groceries, financial literacy and community mental health resources - all of this in addition to our core home repair programs.
