Spike in coffee bean prices affects local coffee businesses - See story, Page 2
Tanner Key drives from Hotchkiss to Grand Junction twice a week to roast beans for Colorado Legacy Coffee Roasters. Key owned Key’s Coffee Roasting in Hotchkiss for about a year before selling the business in early December because bean prices had increased to the point he would have to raise his prices again in 2024. “When I started out I was charging $13 per pound,” he said. “Then I had to raise it to $13.50, then $14, then $14.50. Then, I started losing customers. That’s what made it so hard for me, because I’d have to raise my prices considerably, and I didn’t have an established customer base.” Photo by Tim Harty
