It’s Sheffield and a Sunday afternoon at a local neighbourhood festival. Candid shots taken as I wandered around.

My first visit to Sheffield—wandering around a new place, with no idea what I would find proved to be a marvellous awakening of the senses and the creative juices after a couple of difficult and fallow years. The town hall bathed in blossom and sunshine, the water reflections and the wonderful Winter Gardens provided the creative inspiration for my images.

On our group visit to Sheffield, I was watching people moving around in the railway station and in an art gallery. They were there for just a short time and then moved on. I have used intentional camera movement to emphasise this fleeting movement.

A moment in time — a shaft of light , a silhouette — can touch the soul.
A family heirloom, handed down to the eldest daughter through four generations. In my keeping now.
A shaft of light during golden hour which only lasted seconds.
Especially poignant as this week it is the first anniversary of mam’s death.

During the winter months my wife puts out food for the birds during the day and at night for the hedgehogs which frequent our back garden. The bird food is usually placed on the soil in large garden tubs. The food for the hedgehogs is placed at ground level. She normally watches the television in the conservatory which overlooks the back garden and very late one evening she was surprised by a fox looking at her through the window. It was searching for food left over by the birds.
We have a movement activated security light which illuminates the garden and when this lights up we know there are animals present. My wife was curious about which animals visited the garden after we had gone to bed.
I researched the internet looking for movement activated cameras which would trigger if animals visited and decided on a basic Ursus Nova Naturespy Trail Camera. It came within 24 hours complete with a 64GB SDXC card for recordings.
In the garden I attached the camera to the back of a garden chair pointing towards the tub which holds the food for the fox. Whenever we switch the camera on we end up with a series of photographs of our night visitors.

It was never my intention to start a project on markets. It began as an exercise in street photography but it came about when collecting our grandchildren after school and taking them out to cafes in the town for a snack.
The town where they live has a High Street market which was granted a license in 1203 primarily for the sale of animals. The street was broad and has remained this way, so is ideal for markets, even today.
After retirement I took up a different occupation and started delivering leased fleet cars and vans all over the country. Travelling to other areas I noticed how the street markets differed. And so my project began. I started carrying a camera with me and taking photographs of the different markets when I was lucky enough to arrive on a market day.
I now have quite a collection of photographs of different markets, and my collection continues to grow.
