Welcome to the SE region December Newsletter This really is my last note on the amazing run of Photoshop courses run by Celia Henderson. I am pleased to say Celia has recovered sufficiently and is running replacement workshops for those she missed whilst ill. A big thank you Celia; you have raised the Photoshop awareness of so many of us. She has not disappeared completely, but all her workshops will now be run under DIG. They will always be advertised on the SE website. Click here to access any of these events One of the events now with DIG is Learn to Love your Tablet which has been run before and is great starter to getting you onto a tablet rather than just using a mouse and keyboard. Click here to access Learn to Love your Tablet Our second CLICK EVENT, a Meet up at the Dungeness station of the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch railway., took place recently. We were not blessed with great weather, but the departure of the train was particularly atmospheric. There will be a lot more of these free events next year, starting with a visit to the Hothouse at Wisley, taking place in March. This event is going to be typical of a few events we organise. We will suggest a time and place, usually inside a venue. You will be responsible for paying to get in only. For Wisley, we will be meeting in the Hothouse cafe. Full details in January. For some events we have managed to secure a free guide or tour if we guarantee a certain number and pre-pay the entrance fee. For these events we may well ask for the entry fee up front so we can fulfil this condition. I am pleased to report that Roger Crocombe’s comprehensive course on How to Print in Lightroom was a great success, but with slightly reduced numbers attending. The major learning points for me were: • Look at the brightness of your screen. Make sure this not too bright as this will mean your print will be dull. You should never have to use brightness and contrast adjustments in the print module. Once you have a screen brightness that works, make a note of it and use it for printing every time. • Use soft proofing and use a paper for which you do have an ICC profile. You can see what colours you printer is going to be able to reproduce. Fotospeed will now supply an ICC profile for any paper, for a small fee • Roger also recommends A3+ paper which is a very economical way of getting 2 big prints from 1 sheet of paper. Roger also hosted Printing Your Own Christmas Cards just a week ago. I hope some of you have some excellent personalised Xmas cards ready to send Since the last newsletter we have been asked by RPS Bristol if we could host a Celebrations of Distinctions event. We have agreed in principle to host the event at Crawley Down in June on a Sunday. We will need about 40-60 people to attend in order for the event to break even, so please have think about coming. I will publish the actual event date in January when we hear back from Bristol. As a result of this event we think it is better to have both the LRPS Online Advisory Day and the ARPS Online Advisory Day after the Celebrations event so those who are inspired can get some advice. Again, I will post dates in January as soon as we hear from Bristol.
