Everything you see on stage – from costumes to sets, lighting to live music – is created by incredible theatre makers right here in Northampton. Their passion and craftsmanship ensure that what starts in our town reaches far beyond.

Royal & Derngate is one of the few regional theatres that produces its own original work, alongside hosting an exciting range of visiting productions. We take pride in creating ambitious theatre that inspires thought, sparks conversation, and delights audiences. Our Made In Northampton season curated by Artistic Director Jesse Jones brings these productions to life – crafted, rehearsed, and built right here – before many go on to tour the UK, transfer to the West End, or even reach Broadway.
Royal & Derngate has been celebrated as one of the UK’s most dynamic producing theatres, named Outstanding Theatre of the Year by the distinguished theatre critic Michael Billington and earning multiple Olivier Award nominations. Productions like The Worst Witch, Our Lady Of Kibeho, and The Two Popes have gained national and international acclaim. We’re also proud to have been voted the UK’s Most Welcoming Theatre, a reflection of the warmth and creativity that define everything we do.
By watching a Made In Northampton production, you’re experiencing world-class theatre before anyone else. It’s a chance to take pride in Northampton’s creativity and support the people who make it happen.

Three parties. One weekend. The invitations have been sent and there's no going back… it’s Party Season!
Xander is back in town, and this weekend he’s on parenting duty. The kids are in the ball pit; the Entertainer is blowing bubbles; the adults gobble Perelló olives and pretend to like each other. As ancient grudges rear their heads, the tension rises like a helium balloon. Caught between who he was and who he’s supposed to be, Xander must decide whether he’s going to grow up or just pass the parcel.
From the multi-award-winning creators of Education, Education, Education and The Last Of The Pelican Daughters comes a sugar-fuelled, bobbin-winding fever dream where class identities collide, social niceties unravel, and underslept parents do their best to hold it all together.
Party Season is a razor-sharp new comedy about privilege, party rings and the pressures of being a parent. RSVP!

In 1980s Thatcher’s Britain, the threat of war looms over the loving domesticity of army general Othello and his new bride, the noble Desdemona.
As officer Iago seeks to grab power aided unwittingly by his wife Emilia, Othello must separate fact from fiction as deadly jealousy threatens to take over.
Shakespeare’s searing tragedy exposes the fear, passion and paranoia bubbling beneath the surface of relationships and the deadly consequences of manipulation with cruel intentions.
Director Anthony Almeida’s new production looks afresh at the relationship between Othello, Desdemona, Iago and Emila in a powerful show as much about love as hate.

Tickets from £19 | 14+
Contains domestic violence, psychological manipulation, sexual references, themes related to racism and mental health, and death.

After a smash-hit UK tour, Frankie Goes To Bollywood returns - bigger, bolder, and bursting with Bollywood glamour.
This dazzling musical comedy-drama dives deep into the glitzy, highpressure world of Indian cinema, where dreams are mass-produced, identities are reshaped, and women are expected to smile and play by the script written for them.
At the centre of it all is Frankie, a young British woman with little interest in fame. But her quiet suburban life is turned upside down as she is thrust into a world of dazzling lights, choreographed perfection and media obsession. Frankie must decide: Can she become a star without losing who she really is? What must she give up to succeed in a man’s world—and what is she willing to fight for?
With show-stopping choreography, lavish costumes, and a cast of unforgettable characters, Frankie Goes To Bollywood is a bold, uplifting story of ambition, transformation, and the power of telling your own story.

Chicago. A city of jazz and gangsters, prohibition and poverty. The murk of the Great Depression opens the door for a small-time crook like Arturo Ui to make a big name for himself. Feeding on the city’s fear, Ui and his cronies make back-alley deals to protect the workers. What starts as a little bribery here, a little corruption there, begins to take a poisonous root, and Ui's influence gains a dangerous momentum that threatens to seep through the markets, politics, and the law itself to seize the entire city.
In a fresh adaptation by Pulitzer, Olivier, and Tony award-winning American playwright Bruce Norris, performed by Royal & Derngate Young Company, Brecht’s satirical political masterpiece about Hitler’s ascent to power is rendered anew as a blistering examination of the rise of the modern day far right and our own 21st century demagogues. Directed by Anna Simpson, with sound design by Jude Taylor, set design by Lauren Connolly and costume design by Victoria Youngson

Written by Willy Russell, the legendary Blood Brothers tells the captivating and moving tale of twins who, separated at birth, grow up on opposite sides of the tracks, only to meet again with fateful consequences.
Few musicals have received quite such acclaim as the multi-award-winning Blood Brothers. The production ran for more than 10,000 performances in London’s West End, one of only five musicals ever to achieve that milestone. It has been affectionately christened the ‘Standing Ovation Musical’, as inevitably it “brings the audience cheering to its feet and roaring its approval” (The Daily Mail).
The superb score includes Bright New Day, Marilyn Monroe and the emotionally charged hit Tell Me It’s Not True “EXHILARATING... ONE OF THE BEST MUSICALS EVER WRITTEN” Sunday Times “BRINGS THE AUDIENCE CHEERING TO ITS FEET AND ROARING ITS APPROVAL” The Daily Mail

By adding a transaction charge, we ensure that every penny goes directly to Royal & Derngate. We will continue to tell you about these charges when you book tickets with us.
Once purchased, tickets are non-refundable except where a show is cancelled or postponed. Ticket exchanges may be offered for the same production on payment of a small per ticket fee. For sold out shows we will accept returned tickets for re-sale up to 24 hours prior on the understanding that a gift voucher (less transaction fees) will be provided if the tickets are re-sold. Any tickets found to be sold via an unauthorised agent may be void without refund and the ticket holder refused entry.
When booking, customers now have the option to add refund protection to their tickets via a third-party provider, Booking Protect. This protects your ticket should you be unable to attend a show for reasons outside of your control such as illness. Please visit our website for full details on our conditions of sale.
Our Box Office and website will ask when you book if you wish to receive further information from us about Royal & Derngate’s events and activities. We will record your wishes and use them to inform what you receive from us in future. You can update these preferences at any time by accessing your account via our website or by calling Box Office.
