Made in Northampton Created Here, Shared Everywhere Royal & Derngate is one of few regional theatres that creates its own work. Our Made In Northampton season, curated by Artistic Director Jesse Jones, is written, rehearsed and built right here — from sets and costumes to lighting and live music — before productions tour the UK, transfer to the West End, or reach Broadway. Named Outstanding Theatre of the Year by critic Michael Billington and nominated for multiple Olivier Awards, we've sent shows like The Worst Witch, Our Lady Of Kibeho and The Two Popes on national tours. We're also voted the UK's Most Welcoming Theatre 2025. See it here first.

From Stage to Classroom: The Story of Top Gs Like Me Royal & Derngate's Top Gs Like Me, which premiered in February 2026, extended well beyond the stage. Alongside the production, our creative engagement team delivered a wide-reaching programme designed to bring the play's themes of positive masculinity into classrooms and communities across Northamptonshire. 1,088 school pupils and community members took part in wraparound projects linked to the production, working across some of the town's largest secondary schools. Through hands-on street art workshops, participants were invited to explore what positive masculinity meant to them, translating discussion into visual work.

That engagement produced 330 pieces of street art, created across 13 school and community workshops. The work was brought together in a public exhibition, seen by 6,500 visitors, extending the reach of the project well beyond those directly involved in its creation. In total, the programme delivered 31 workshops, generating 3,909 school attendances, giving young people across the region the opportunity to engage directly with the play's central themes. The scale and consistency of this engagement reflects the project's core aim: using theatre not only

www.royalandderngate.co.uk/made-in-Northampton

as performance, but as a crucial starting point for meaningful dialogue among young people. Find out more about our Made In Northampton programme on pages 6-11 of this brochure. Young People are the Heart of Royal & Derngate Royal & Derngate is placing young people at the centre of everything it does. Across the building, on stage, in the community, and behind the scenes, the theatre is shaping a wider, organisationwide focus on giving young people a genuine creative home. At the heart of that ambition sits the Youth Theatre and Young Company. For members aged 7 to 21, these are spaces to build

confidence, find a creative voice, and grow, whether that means a first taste of performing or the industry-level training needed to pursue a career in the arts. Guided by professional directors and practitioners, members take on movement, voice, character work, script analysis, and devising, working toward showcases and full-scale productions on a professional stage. For many, it becomes far more than an after-school activity. It's a place to belong. As one member put it, "I don't think I would be half the actor or person that I am if it wasn't for the Young Company."

and their most ambitious production yet, currently in development for 2027. It's a marker of how far the ambition now reaches: young performers, developed in-house, preparing to carry a full-scale professional production. Young people aren't a strand of Royal & Derngate's work. They're the reason it exists. Find out more about how to join our Youth Theatre and Young Company on page 56.

Next year, the Young Company will take on Treasure Island, a riotous, music-filled adaptation

“CHAOS IS COME AGAIN.” A Northern Stage, HOME Manchester and Citizens Theatre coproduction, in association with Royal & Derngate A secret marriage. The brink of war. Fact and fiction. It’s not just black and white. Fear, passion and paranoia bubble beneath the surface of Othello and Desdemona’s newlywed life. Iago’s manipulations begin in whispers – and end in ruin. Director Anthony Almeida‘s new production looks afresh at this iconic tragedy – as much about love as it is about hate.

Royal & Derngate's Annual New Work Festival Following six successful years, Royal & Derngate's artist support programme Generate returns with GenFest 2026, running from Thursday 17 to Sunday 20 September. Dedicated to supporting emerging and established artists from Northamptonshire and across the East Midlands, the festival offers audiences the chance to watch performances having their first outings, alongside work-in-progress still in development. Thursday opens with three new family shows: Lula by Sophie Loosemore, a sensory theatre experience for babies and their grown-ups; Riki Cycle: Food Waste by A Children's Story, an eco-adventure encouraging families to care for the planet; and Before the Stars Fell by Jo Blake and Mikael Oberg, blending storytelling with innovative sound technology.

Friday brings a shift in tone, with Polis Loizou's psychological horror Spool, followed by We Had Fun, a dark comedy from Emmeline Hartley and Jack Mullings exploring the greyest area of sexual politics. Saturday sees Frank Wurzinger's Drill Baby Drill — a one-man show performed by a polar bear, using clowning and puppetry to explore grief and hope. The festival closes on Sunday with the Writing Doesn't Have To Be Lonely Takeover, a series of scenes by local writers performed throughout the theatre's iconic architecture. Since 2012, Generate has supported artists through rehearsal and performance space, mentorship, funding, and one-off commissions.

MULTI-NIGHT SHOWS NOVEMBER Written by Willy Russell, the legendary Blood Brothers tells the captivating and moving tale of twins who, separated at birth, grow up on opposite sides of the tracks, only to meet again with fateful consequences. Few musicals have received quite such acclaim as the multi-award-winning Blood Brothers. The production ran for more than 10,000 performances in London’s West End, one of only five musicals ever to achieve that milestone. It has been affectionately christened the ‘Standing Ovation Musical’, as inevitably it “brings the audience cheering to its feet and roaring its approval” (The Daily Mail). The superb score includes Bright New Day, Marilyn Monroe and the emotionally charged hit Tell Me It’s Not True. “EXHILARATING... When celebrated TV medium Darius Divine, host of hit light-entertainment show The Other Side, plans a cosy family dinner, he expects awkward small talk. He doesn’t expect his pregnant lover, his Gilbert and Sullivan obsessed mother-in-law, or a night of ghostly visitations and explosive revelations. As dinner burns and tensions rise, the line between performance and reality begins to shatter. Secrets surface. Jealousies ignite. And a final twist lands that no-one will see coming. Funny, shocking and deliciously unsettling, this is a wild theatrical ride that will have audiences laughing one minute and gasping the next.

TICKET DELIVERY

and Group Bookers. This charge is only applicable per transaction and not per ticket. The transaction charge exists to support the running costs of Royal & Derngate. As ticket revenue is divided between many different parties, an increase in ticket prices may not necessarily benefit the theatre. By adding a transaction charge, we ensure that every penny goes directly to Royal & Derngate. We will continue to tell you about these charges when you book tickets with us.

CONDITIONS OF SALE Once purchased, tickets are non-refundable except where a show is cancelled or postponed. Ticket exchanges may be offered for the same production on payment of a small per ticket fee. For sold out shows we will accept returned tickets for re-sale up to 24 hours prior on the understanding that a gift voucher (less transaction fees) will be provided if the tickets are re-sold. Any tickets found to be sold via an unauthorised agent may be void without refund and the ticket holder refused entry. When booking, customers now have the option to add refund protection to their tickets via a third-party provider, Booking Protect. This protects your ticket should you be unable to attend a show for reasons outside of your control such as illness. Please visit our website for full details on our conditions of sale.

STAYING IN TOUCH Our Box Office and website will ask when you book if you wish to receive further information from us about Royal & Derngate’s events and activities. We will record your wishes and use them to inform what you receive from us in future. You can update these preferences at any time by accessing your account via our website or by calling Box Office. Full information on how we use your data can be found at www.royalandderngate.co.uk/privacy.
