Orange weather warning as festive frost persists < DAN DOONER
Met Éireann has issued a renewed orange weather warning for ice and low temperatures which will remain in place for County Roscommon and much of the rest of the country until noon today (Thursday). A further orange alert from 6 pm tonight until noon on Friday has been issued for Connacht, Leinster, Munster, Cavan and Monaghan. The warnings come as temperatures fell to as low as -7.5 degrees at Mount Dillon in Co. Roscommon on Tuesday night – the lowest in the country. The national forecaster warned of extreme cold into this morning, with widespread temperatures below -5 degrees, which has led to further severe frost and ice in many areas of the county. A nationwide yellow warning for low temperatures and ice will remain in place until noon tomorrow (Friday) making driving conditions hazardous. For more, see page 4.
