ThisismydogMaxandcatTiger. WetookinMaxwhenhewas12 weeksold,andhe’salabrador mix.Heisnow7yearsold,andit didnottakeuslongtodetermine thathewasnotanalphadog.

Youmaybeaskingyourself,whatishappeninginthis picture?Well,Maxwasinoursunroomandwas scaredtocomeoutoftheroombecauseTigerwasby thedoor.Isnappedthepictureandthenmadesure hegotoutoftheroomsafely.

Maxisalsoscaredofdeliveryboxes,andintheageof Amazon,thiscanbequitetraumaticforhim.Wewill openthedoor,toputhimoutside,andhewillrefuse togo.Hewon’tgooutuntilwelookoutsideandseea boxwasdelivered;oncewebringitinthehouse,heis safetogooutside.

Afewyearsago,wehadtohavethesatellitedishon ourhousemoved,tofixourreception.Onceitwas moved,westartednoticingthatoccasionally,Max wouldresistgoingoutside.Mydaughterrealizedthat onsunnydaysyoucouldnowseetheshadowofthe satellitedishonthesidewalkandMaxwasafraidof

theshadow.Wehadtogooutsidewithhimforafew weeksuntilhewassuretheshadowwouldn’thurthim.

Hisarchnemesisistheveterinarian,andherefusesto gointothevet’soffice.Afterthethirdappointment attempt,andwithhimmedicatedonsedatives,the vetsaidhe’dcomeouttotheparkinglottogiveMax hisshots.Thathasbeenhowhe’sseenthevetforthe lastfewyears.Weholdontohiminthebackseatand thevetcomesoutandcheckshim.Thevetwilltryand givehimatreat,andherefusestoeatit.

Ihaverecentlyswitchedmybedroombacktothe primarybedroom,wehadmovedoutoftheroom whenwegaveittomymother-in-law.Nowthatsheis nolongerwithus,itwastimetomovebackin.Maxis veryupset;herefusestosleepwithmeinthenew room.He’llcomeinforaminuteandthenleaveand gobacktothesmallerroom.

Weknowpeoplehaveahardtimewithchange,and weneedtorememberourpetsdoalso.I’msureMax willbecomecomfortableinthenewroom,butitwill taketimeandpatience.Justlikeweneedtogive ourselvestimeandpatiencewhenweareadjustingto changes.

Doyouenjoywatchingthebirdsoutsideyourwindow?Minnesotaistrulyabird-lover’sparadise! Withmorethan450speciesspottedacrossthestate,therealwaysseemstobesomething delightfulfluttering,soaring,orsingingnearby.

PerhapsourmostfamousfeatheredresidentistheCommonLoon,Minnesota’sstatebird.A championdiver,thelooncanswimmorethan200feetunderwaterinsearchoffish!Itslegsareset farbackonitsbody,makingitanexcellentswimmerbutveryawkwardonland—whichiswhyyou almostneverseealoonwalking.Loonsalsohavedense,solidbones,whilemostotherbirdshave hollowbonesforflight.Thisextraweighthelpsthemdivedeepandstayunderwaterwhilehunting.

Minnesotaisalsohometooneofthelargestpopulationsofbaldeaglesinthelower48states! Onceendangered,thesemajesticbirdshavemadearemarkablecomebackandarenowa familiarsightnearlakesandrivers.Baldeaglesmateforlife,oftenreturningtothesamenesting areayearafteryear.Theirnests—calledeyries—areenormous,often4-5feetwideanddeep.Some Minnesotanestshavebeenreusedandaddedtofordecadesandweighoveroneton!
