Nature Based Play at Schwarz Pond Natural playgrounds help children to develop other beneficial behaviors in addition to physical skills. These behaviors include social skills, cooperation, and the ability to solve problems. In addition, natural playgrounds stimulate a child’s imagination and creativity. Special Event SPRING BREAK STORYWALK! Take a self-guided walk in the park on Thursday, March 24-Sunday, March 27 while reading pages from the children’s book Moo! by David LaRochelle. Laminated pages from a children’s book will be installed along the path around the pond at Central Park. As you stroll down the trail, you’re directed to the next page in the story. This StoryWalk is about ¾ of a mile and stroller friendly.

ROSEMOUNT’S 30TH ANNUAL ARBOR DAY CELEBRATION AND TREE GIVEAWAY FREE! Join us as we observe the 30th Annual Rosemount Arbor Day. We will recognize the importance of Arbor Day with a brief program hosted by Mayor Droste. We will also be giving away trees from 6 - 8 feet in height to residents of Rosemount. There will be a variety of tree species available. The trees for this year are Autumn Blaze Maple, Honeycrisp Apple, Common Hackberry, and Paper Clump Birch (all are subject to change). The first 150 residents of Rosemount who have proof of residency will receive a tree. Due to limited quantity, there is a limit of one tree per household. SPRING CLEAN-UP DAY The City of Rosemount is planning its annual Spring Clean-up day on Saturday, May 21, 2022, from 8am to 12pm. Residents are welcome to drop off unwanted items that are not normally accepted by their residential trash hauler. Once again this year, the event will take place in the east parking lot at the Dakota County Technical College at 1300 145th Street East (Co. Road 42). Participants can enter the site off of Audrey Avenue just south of the college baseball field. We will be working with Certified Recycling for collection and disposal of mattresses and box springs, and for appliances and electronic equipment. Anyone dropping off these items at the Clean-Up will pay Certified directly. Therefore, participants at the event who wish to dispose of mattresses, box springs, appliances or electronic equipment and also other items for which we charge should be prepared to pay Certified Recycling and the City of Rosemount separately. The following is a sample of the items accepted at the Clean-Up event and the associated fees. For a more complete list of accepted items and the disposal fee for each, please see the City’s website at www.ci.rosemount.mn.us. This event is for Rosemount residents only and is intended as a means to dispose of household quantities of items. A driver’s license or other proof of residency will be required. Those with an unusually large amount of items to dispose of are asked to make special arrangements with a hauler. Any children attending the Clean-Up event must be closely supervised, as there are many vehicles and assorted equipment moving throughout the site. While City staff will be on hand to assist, residents should be prepared to unload whatever materials they bring to the event. City staff reserves the right to refuse disposal of any item. Items that are not accepted at this event include hazardous waste materials (paint, oil, solvents), compost material and yard waste. There are other sites in Dakota County that will accept these items. Residents are encouraged to contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 651-322-6000 with any questions or concerns or in regards to any particular items. PAPER SHREDDING EVENT This spring, the City of Rosemount will once again partner with the Michelle Hoagland Group, Keller Williams Preferred Realty to hold a Shredding Event in conjunction with the City’s Spring Clean-Up Day. Like the Clean-Up event, the Shredding Event will take place on Saturday, May 21, 2021 from 8am until 12pm in the east parking lot of Dakota County Technical College at 1300 145th Street East. Residents are welcome to participate in the event by dropping off unwanted personal papers or confidential files for shredding. The shredding of these materials will be done by Shred Right at no cost to event participants. The shredding truck will be set up in the east parking lot and participants are encouraged to follow the signage into the CleanUp drop off site where they will be directed to the shredding truck.

PRE-SCHOOL ACTIVITES ECOELSA NATURE PROGRAM SPRING AND SUMMER PROGRAMS 2022

Connecting People to Nature by “TEACHING ANYTHING OUTDOORS”. That is the mission of EcoElsa LLC. Natural spaces provide many opportunities for people whether it is as a place to stay physically active, to rest and relax, to be curious and explore, and so much more! This is why EcoElsa curriculum and programs are developed to show how nature can be a space for teaching different subjects and topics; and for different learning styles. The three goals of EcoElsa are: 1 Helping people get outdoors to learn and have fun 2 Creating resources so that anything can be taught outdoors 3 Making the outdoors more accessible for more people

Our pre-school classes focus on helping preschoolers connect to nature while also preparing for school. All classes have activities for multiple learning styles as well as the opportunity to practice different developmental skills like fine & gross motor, social, emotional, communication, and more!

WORMS & MUD! In this class your kids will learn all about some of the earliest signs that spring is on the way! Class includes a variety of fun activities that engages littles to be active and creative while exploring the world of mud and worms. Make sure kids come dressed for the weather and getting dirty and a change of clothes for after class is also recommended!

ANIMAL LIFE CYCLES Join us for a fun class about how animals grow that gets your littles moving, playing, and exploring outdoors! Kids will do a variety of games and activities to learn how animals go through life cycles and different changes. They will also get to see some animals firsthand to learn more about animals that go through a metamorphosis change as part of their life cycle.

MORNING T-BALL (AGES 4-5) This basic instructional T-Ball program is for boys and girls who are or will be 4 or 5 years old by June 15 and/or entering kindergarten in the fall of 2022. Children will learn various skills such as throwing and catching a ball, batting techniques, base running, fielding, and other fundamentals of the game. Children will learn such skills through instructional drills and exercises. The main emphasis is on FUN instruction in a non-competitive atmosphere. No games are played until the final day of class when a fun game is played against another T-ball team. Participants must be appropriate age by the first day of class. Please bring a glove and water bottle to each lesson. Pre-registration is required. WHEN:

START RIGHT… RUN, JUMP, THROW, CATCH (AGE 3) Run, Jump, Throw, Catch is an amazing way to start your children in sports and develop their confidence and boost self-esteem. This program is all about having fun while playing games and exploring our movement, balance and coordination. We will also work on following directions, taking turns and being part of a team! Developmentally appropriate motor development is the first step in ensuring a successful sports program for young children. Physical play for 3-year olds is all about movement. Run, Jump, Throw, Catch will introduce kids to many developmentally appropriate, gross movement patterns and games that will emphasize fun and help them be successful at a multitude of sport skills. ROSEMOUNT LITTLE EXPLORERS (AGES 4-6) Parents enjoy a “morning out” this summer while your young children enjoy this great recreational program! Your kids will explore the wonders of our world through nature, crafts, games and friendship. Each week has a new theme (themes change each year, so children who attended in past years will still have an exciting summer adventure). Children must be 4 years old by the first day of the program and must be able to use the restroom independently. This program meets rain or shine. Remember to bring a water bottle each day. LIL’ ADVENTURE CAMP (AGES 4-6) Send your children on a fun-filled adventure this summer with an exciting week at Lil’ Adventure Camp! This camp is created for hands-on learning and fun with many exciting new adventures planned each day. YOUTH ACTIVITIES KIDS CORNER – FREE PARK PROGRAM (AGES 6-12) CHILDREN MUST HAVE COMPLETED KINDERGARTEN TO PARTICIPATE The Kids Corner Park Program keeps kids busy with constructive activities that focus on games, fitness, nature, friendships and fun. This program promotes positive social interaction with other children by encouraging participation and respect. Bring your own water bottle to the program each day and apply sunscreen. Pre-registration is not required; however a legal parent/guardian must complete emergency contact information for each child to participate. Complete the card online or accompany children to their first session of Kids Corner to fill out the emergency contact card at the park. Children will not be allowed to participate until this information is on file. Inclement Weather Information In the event of inclement weather, Kids Corner sites without a shelter building will be cancelled. Inclement weather includes both rain and severe heat. WATER PARK CAMP! (AGES 7-12) Join us for one, two or three weeks of swimming around the Twin Cities at this year’s Water Park Camp! This exciting camp will have kids enjoying a morning of games and activities at the Rosemount Community Center Gymnasium followed by a trip to a new water park each day. We will be visiting the Apple Valley Aquatic Park, Eagan’s Cascade Bay, Shoreview’s Tropics Waterpark & Bamboo Bay and the Edina Aquatic Center. YOUTH ACTIVITIES KIDS FAVORITE FIELD TRIPS CAMP (AGES 7-12) We have tabulated our survey and listened to the kids who participated last summer and are excited to offer a camp that heads to all your favorite field trip sites in one week (Monday-Thursday)! This exciting camp will have kids enjoying a morning of games and activities at the Rosemount Community Center Gymnasium followed by a new field trip each day.

On day one we will head to Crystal Caves for a cave tour, gem panning and picnic lunch. Next, we head to Grand Slam for unlimited Play Zone, X-treme Trampoline, mini golf, Krazy Kars, batting cages, laser tag and a hot dog lunch. On day three we head to Skateville for roller skating and a pizza lunch. Our final trip will take us to Rockin’ Jump for Open Jump Arena, Slam Dunk Zone, Dodgeball Court and more. 3RD LAIR SKATEBOARD CAMP (AGES 7–12) The 3rd Lair skateboard camp program has been a part of MN skateboarding development for over 20 years. Through small group instruction and fun activities each participant will become more comfortable on their boards. Instructors will also work with the campers to help set personal goals they will work to attain each day of their camp. Instruction is based on ability level and they will cater to individual needs. All skill levels are welcome. Don’t miss out on the best instruction at the best skatepark in the area. Rosemount’s skatepark includes two main areas. Upon entering the park, you have quarter pipe hips on both sides, and a large vert wall that blends into a multi-level fun box. On one side of the street zone there is a ledge, flat bar, and manual pad, while the opposite side has a fun box with a rail and hubba ledge. Designed for constant flow, the street sections are connected with elements such as a spine, banked wall ride and a flip bank. The second area of the park is a raised clover bowl, this unique three-pocket bowl has three levels; 4’ shallow end, 6’ mind pocket and a 7’ deep end. No matter your style of skating, beginner or advanced, this camp has a little something for everyone while offering the opportunity to grow and progress. A helmet is mandatory for the camp and kneepads, elbow pads and wrist guards are strongly encouraged. Fridays are designated inclement weather make-up day. USTA NET GENERATION YOUTH TENNIS PROGRAM

Net Generation encourages kids to challenge themselves. It helps shape the game to individual players, so they can learn at their own speed. Even more importantly, it uses tennis as a pathway to personal development off the court. And for everyone involved, Net Generation creates a strong sense of community for life. The curriculum was developed by the USTA, the game’s governing body, with tools and lessons designed to challenge kids in a fun and social way. We have also added “Match Play Days” which is a great way for kids ages 5 – 12 to play tennis in a fun, non-threatening, non-eliminating, competitive environment with other tennis players their age and ability. Match play is an important part of tennis. Kids will gain more court time, learn competitive strategies, and meet new friends while brushing up on skills learned during lessons! Participants should provide their own youth tennis racquet; however, if you are unable to obtain a tennis racquet for the lessons, the Parks and Recreation Department has a number of age appropriate racquets that may be used for lessons. The Rosemount Learn to Skate program offers a basic skills program. This program offers a skill progression designed to enhance the capabilities of all skaters. Please look carefully at the class descriptions. It is not uncommon for a student to repeat a level before mastering all the skills at that level. All classes are held on Monday evenings at the Rosemount Ice Arena, 13885 South Robert Trail. Questions should be directed to Rosemount Parks & Recreation at 651-322-6000. Learn to Skate

P.A.L.S- PARENT AND LITTLE SKATER: This class is designed for parents and new skaters to learn basic skills together. Some of the skills included are forward marching, two-foot glides, dips, and starting backward wiggles.

3’S/4’S CLASS: This class is designed for 3 and 4 year olds who have no to little experience with ice skating. They will learn basic skills such as forward marching, twofoot glides, dips, and starting backward wiggles. They should know how to do the following skills: standing up on the ice, forward marching and some backwards skating. SNOWPLOW SAM (4-7 YEARS OLD): There are four levels in this curriculum. Once all 4 levels are passed students will advance to Basic 3. This curriculum is designed to develop the preliminary coordination and strength necessary to move on skates. • Snow Plow Sam 1: This class is designed for kids 4-7 years old who have no to minimal ice skating experience. They will learn the following basic skills: forward marching, glides, dips, and start backwards wiggles. • Snow Plow Sam 2: This class is designed for kids 4-7 years old who have passed Snow Plow Sam 1. They will continue to practice skills learned in SPS 1 as well as learning new skills such as: backward wiggles, swizzles and beginning snow plow stop. • Snow Plow Sam 3: This class is designed for kids 4-7 years old who have passed Snow Plow Sam 1 and 2. Skaters will continue practicing skills from the previous levels as well as learn new skills such as: one foot glides, forward and backward swizzles, etc. • Snow Plow Sam 4: This class is designed for kids 4-7 years old who have passed Snow Plow Sam 1, 2, and 3. THE BASIC SIX: These six levels introduce the fundamentals of skating moves which include forward and backward skating, stops, crossovers and turns. Upon completion of the Basic Six, skaters will have the knowledge to advance to the Free Skate Levels. • Basic 1: This class is designed for skaters ages 4 and up with little or no skating experience. Skaters will learn the following basic skills: forward/backward skating, swizzles, stopping, etc. • Basic 2-3: These classes are designed for skaters who have passed Basic 1 and/or Snow Plow Sam level 4. Skaters will be evaluated the first night to determine appropriate basic skills level. • Basic 2: Skaters will work on scooter pushes, one foot glides, moving stops, etc. • Basic 3: Skaters will work on backward one foot glide, backward sizzles, forward slalom, etc. Basic 4-6: Designed for skaters who have passed Basic 3. Skaters will work on edges, crossovers, spins, stroking, etc. • Basic 4: Skaters will practice previous skills as well as learn backward skating, turns, edges, etc. • Basic 5: Skaters will work on crossovers, backward pumps, edges, spins, etc. • Basic 6: Skaters will work on backward crossovers, edges, turns, spins, etc.

PRE-FREE SKATE AND FREE SKATE 1-4: Designed for figure skaters that have passed Basic 6. • Pre-Free Skate: Skaters will work on 3-turns, edges, crossovers, and beginning spins. They must have experience and have passed the Basic Skills levels before signing up for pre-free skate. • Free Skate 1-4: Skaters will continue practicing previously learned skills in pre-free skate. They will learn how to do spins, backward 3-turns/ edges, etc. HOCKEY TRACK (4 years and older that have passed Snow Plow Sam Level 4 or Basic 2) Designed for skaters who plan to play hockey or are currently playing hockey. 35th ANNUAL RUN FOR THE GOLD AND YOUTH SHAMROCK SPRINT SATURDAY, JULY 23 Go for the gold in our annual RUN FOR THE GOLD. We have events for the entire family! Choose the one-mile and/or four-mile run or the FREE youth fun run. YOUTH SHAMROCK SPRINT (AGES 8-UNDER) Youth ages eight and under will have a chance to participate in an exciting youth fun run. The participants will run one-quarter mile, then turn around to finish the remaining one-quarter mile. This event is FREE. Every child participating will receive a souvenir prize! RUNNING SERIES South of the River Recreators (S.O.R.R.) is a collaboration between the cities of Apple Valley, Burnsville, Eagan, Farmington, Rosemount and Savage to offer adult leagues and other programming. Collaborative leagues allow us to increase offerings, decrease leagues being canceled due to low registration numbers, and allow teams to play opponents nearer their level of competition. 2022 S.O.R.R. OLDER ADULT TRIPS MINNESOTA TWINS GAME Spend the day at beautiful Target Field in downtown Minneapolis and take in a game between the Minnesota Twins and the Houston Astros! Seats will be located in the Skyline Deck section, located in left field and near elevators if needed and offering views of the Minneapolis skyline. Target Field offers plenty of concessions, sit down dining and stores throughout the stadium. There will be about three blocks of walking after the game to return to the bus, but portable wheelchairs and walkers are welcome and will fit under the motor coach.

MINNESOTA WING MUSEUM AND HANGAR Visit the museum and see five of the truly historic World War II aircraft including: The Ryan TPT-22 Recruit; Stinson L-5A Sentinel, Vultee BT-13, North American B-25J Mitchell and the North American SNJ Texan. OLDER ADULT TRIPS OWATONNA STEP BACK IN TIME TOUR This trip to Owatonna will start out with a visit to the Minnesota State Public School Orphanage Museum. Beginning in 1886, and continuing for the following sixty years, the Minnesota State School for Dependent and Neglected Children served as the temporary home for thousands of children of all ages. Learn about the unique history of the school through a presentation and tour of the museum and Cottage 11, a restored former cottage on the Orphanage grounds. After leaving the museum, enjoy a casual lunch buffet at Torey’s Restaurant consisting of assorted salads, hot entrees, sides, and desserts. After lunch, a local guide will join us on the motor coach for a riding tour of the beautiful and historic downtown district of Owatonna. OLDER ADULT TRIPS COUNTRY ARTISTS TOUR Travel into the rural communities of Central Minnesota for some unique artistic experiences. Our day will start off with a tour of the Bonnie Mohr Studio, located on the family dairy farm near Glencoe. Bonnie has earned a well-deserved reputation as one of America’s most eminent painters of rural America and the domestic animal. From her peaceful paintings to her poetic and inspirational images she creates, the artwork of Bonnie Mohr speaks for itself. The oil paintings are steeped in rich earthy colors and a charming realism style. Spend time in the retail space with framed art, art prints, originals, note cards, matted mini-prints and gifts. After leaving the studio, we will visit Bump’s Family Restaurant for a lunch that includes a half sandwich with a cup of homemade soup, a beverage and cookie. Following lunch,

we will head to the Countryside Art Gallery in Mayer. Waterfowl painter, sporting dog artist and photographer, Carl J. Melichar welcomes visitors to his historic farm. It was homesteaded and built in the middle 1800s. The farm borders a waterfowl habitat lake with an abundance of wildlife. Visit the 1914 “Old Granary” Museum, Studio and Art Gallery, home to over 100 mounted specimens of waterfowl, decoy carvings and artwork displayed, as well as the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary and more. Our final destination will be Bongards Creamery Retail Store near Norwood Young America to shop. They have been selling premium cheeses since 1908. Consider bringing a thermal bag to take your goodies home in!

STILLWATER TROLLEY TOUR Board a colorful old-time trolley for a narrated tour of the history, folklore & old mansions in beautiful Stillwater. Journey back in time to the era of Victorian finery and turn-of-the-century charm. Nestled in the wooded hills and bluffs of the beautiful St. Croix River, Stillwater is a treasure that time forgot. Multicolored Victorian homes dot the landscape. This distinctive community has a wealth of 19th century Greek Revival, Queen Anne and Italianate architecture. See the historic Stillwater Lift Bridge, constructed in 1931. Hear about Stillwater’s founders and the influential lumber barons. We will then enjoy lunch at the historic Lowell Inn, opened in 1927 and known as the “Mt. Vernon of the Midwest”. Elmer Lowell created a lush and elegant hotel that still stands the test of time. Fine dining rooms were established and have been restored where we will enjoy Chicken a la King, which features tender

pieces of chicken, mushrooms, red and green peppers in a sherry cream sauce served over a puff pastry shell, mashed potatoes, vegetable of the day, beverage and a small dessert. After lunch we will have some time to explore downtown Stillwater and the many establishments such as antique shops, coffee houses, breweries and more. PROGRAMS FOR OLDER ADULTS TAI JI QUAN Improve your balance, strengthen your muscles and reduce your risk of falling using tai ji quan (also known as tai chi) movements in a class that will help you stay mobile and independent. Each session includes warm-up exercises, a mix of tai ji quan forms and brief cool-down exercises. You’ll learn eight tai ji quan forms plus therapeutic variations. Through progressive movements, participants build strength and improve balance as they learn to transition from stability to instability and back again. No prior experience is necessary, and all ability levels are welcome. Taught by Alisa Tomette, PhD.

STAY ORGANIZED WITH THE RECYCLING ZONE The Recycling Zone in Eagan is a destination for the stuff that doesn’t belong in your curbside carts. With the new drive-thru, you stay in your car while staff unload materials from the trunk or backseat. Put all smaller items in a box that you can leave behind. Accepted items — free unless noted. BE A CONFIDENT RECYCLER Say goodbye to recycling confusion by focusing on these basic items that are accepted by all recycling service providers in Dakota County. Commonly recycled items like milk jugs and metal cans are in big demand by companies that make new products like new cans, low-maintenance decking and more. Make sure bottles, jars and containers are empty and dry before recycling. They don’t have to be perfect — just free of most residue like food and liquids. Leave caps on containers and flatten boxes. The facility features a lobby area with a beautiful fireplace, gorgeous floor to ceiling windows and café-style seating, which is open to the general public. It is a great place to stop in for a cup of coffee, play a card or board game with a friend from our fully stocked game cabinet, or meet new people! The Steeple Center is home to the Rosemount Area Seniors and all senior programming (see pages 33-39 for more information), as well as many programs and events hosted by the Rosemount Area Arts Council on pages 40-42.

PARK RESERVATIONS (SHELTER RENTALS) We have great sites for picnics and parties! Do you need a site for a family picnic or birthday party? Open and enclosed park shelters in the City of Rosemount can be reserved for a nominal fee. Open shelters can be reserved by residents for $32 plus tax per day ($53 plus tax for nonresidents). Enclosed shelters are $84 plus tax per day for residents ($137 plus tax for nonresidents). To reserve your spot, please call the Parks and Recreation Department at 651-322-6000. Highlights of Park Rules • No glass containers are permitted in the parks. • Consumption of alcoholic beverages is allowed with a special permit in parks with shelters only. • Motorized vehicles are prohibited in the parks outside of the parking lot areas. • Dogs or other animals must be on a leash no longer than six feet. • All persons in control of an animal on park property shall always have in their possession, an apparatus which can be used for cleaning up feces and/or a bag for proper disposal of feces. The person in control of the animal is responsible for picking up his/her animal’s feces and proper disposal. • Charcoal fires permitted in barbecue grills only. No wood fires are allowed. • Golfing is not allowed in any of the Rosemount City parks. • All areas surrounding organized youth activities in City-owned parks are to remain tobacco free while youth are present. PARK FACILITIES AND AMENITIES Brockway Disc Golf Course The Brockway Park disc golf course is located on the site of the old Brockway Golf Course at the corner of Highway 3 and Connemara Trail. The nine-hole disc course features rolling hills and mature oak trees. The course plays 2,915 feet from the back tees and 1,875 feet from the forward tees. Parking is provided on the north side of the course along Bronze Parkway. Skate Park The Rosemount Skate Park is located just north of the Rosemount Community Center in Schwarz Pond Park at 13787 Dodd Blvd. The most convenient access to the skate park is south on Dodd Blvd from Connemara Trail. This facility is intended for use by skate boarders, in-line skaters and BMX bikers of all abilities. The hours of operation are 6am - 10pm. Users of the skate park are strongly encouraged to wear helmets, kneepads and other protective gear while enjoying the facilities. There is no charge for use of the skate park. Splash Pad The Splash Pad is located at Central Park at 2875 145th Street West. You will find it is a great way to cool off in the summer’s heat! There is no charge to visit the splash pad and it offers a variety of age appropriate water spray features that will keep kids of all ages smiling while staying cool. There is plenty of shade near the pad under the sun shelter and the indoor restrooms are available at the Central Park shelter.

Amphitheater Planning a special event or party for your family or business? Rent the amphitheater at Central Park and add entertainment, for an event to remember. The tiered seating can accommodate up to 2000 people. Call 651322-6011 for more information.

Tennis courts Tennis courts can be found in Erickson Park at 14115 Brazil Avenue. The City of Rosemount built 4 new courts with the help of a grant from the United States Tennis Association (USTA). The courts are equipped with lights for night time play. Courts can also be found at Bloomfield, Charlies and Claret parks. Ga Ga Pit Ga Ga Pits are located at Camfield and Greystone Parks. Gaga ball is a game somewhat like dodgeball but played with a foam ball, and in an octagonal court or gaga pit. The game combines dodging, striking, running, and jumping, with the object of being the last person standing. Players hit the ball at each other with their hands and are eliminated if the ball strikes them on or below the knee. The game can be played by a group of individual players or with teams, as well as in one-on-one matches. Give it a try this summer! Zip Lines Zip lines can be found at Ailesbury and Schwarz Pond parks. Hammocks Hammock Use in City parks – Hammocks are okay to use in City parks and the City actually encourages people to find a spot to hang out. Often times our City parks have mature trees that can be used to attach your “mock” to or you can also use the poles of a small sun shelter or playground to tie up to. This summer the City will be looking at adding places to hang their hammock in parks. Nature Based Play Schwarz Pond Natural playgrounds help children to develop other beneficial behaviors in addition to physical skills. These behaviors include social skills, cooperation, and the ability to solve problems. In addition, natural playgrounds stimulate a child’s imagination and creativity.
