Businesses and organizations have the opportunity to exhibit products and services to families in our growing community. Join us on Saturday, March 2 from 9am-3pm at the Rosemount Community Center.

Rosemount Lions Club Spring Egg Hunt

A bunny will be hopping into Rosemount on Saturday, March 23 at 10am. Lots of eggs and candy will be available for children to hunt for at this traditional Egg Hunt for kids ages 10 and under. This special event is located at the Ames Soccer Complex at Dakota County Technical College. See page 5.

Rosemount residents can drop their string lights in the containers at the Community Center or the Steeple Center lobby anytime during building hours from November 15, 2023 to January 31, 2024. Holiday lights are also accepted year-round at The Recycling Zone, located at 3365 Dodd Road, Eagan. Please do not drop off cord adapters, plastic rope lights, CFL lights, or battery packs. Garlands, fake trees, statuary, and metal fixtures are also not accepted. See page 21.

Rosemount Spring Clean-Up

The City of Rosemount will be hosting its annual Spring Clean-Up Day on Saturday, May 18 from 8am-12pm at the Dakota County Technical College. See page 4.

Memorial Day Event

Come and join local elected officials in honoring the fallen soldiers of Rosemount in a special Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 27 at Central Park. Time TBD. For more information see the City’s Website and Facebook page. See page 4.

SPRING CLEAN-UP DAY!

The City of Rosemount is holding its annual Spring Clean-Up Day! Residents are welcome to drop off items that are not normally collected by trash haulers, such as mattresses, appliances, and scrap metal. Free confidential shredding is also provided courtesy of Michelle Hoagland Group, Keller Williams Preferred Realty. All materials are handled by licensed waste haulers and recycled or donated for reuse if possible. Household hazardous waste, including paint, oil, and cleaners, will NOT be accepted at this event, but may be dropped off at the Recycling Zone, 3365 Dodd Road in Eagan all year. Please note that this event is for Rosemount residents only, and a driver’s license or other proof of residence will be required to participate. A bunny will be hopping into Rosemount with lots of eggs and candy for children to hunt for at this traditional Egg Hunt for kids ages 10 and under. Children will be divided into age groups (1-3, 4-6 and 7-10) for hunting. Each age group will have lots of eggs and candy to hunt for and they will also have a chance to find the “golden” egg, which they can turn in for a special prize. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Bring a basket or bag to hold your treats. A bunny will be visiting and roaming the entrance area. No photos on the bunny’s lap, but kids will be able to stand near the bunny so bring your cameras! Inclement weather: In case of inclement weather, the Egg Hunt will be held the following Saturday, March 30. Natural spaces provide many opportunities for people whether it is as a place to stay physically active, to rest and relax, to be curious and explore, and so much more! Our pre-school classes focus on helping preschoolers connect to nature while also preparing for school. All classes have activities for multiple learning styles as well as the opportunity to practice different developmental skills like fine and gross motor, social, emotional, communication, and more!

WINTER ABCS HIKE

Come on a hike with an EcoElsa educator to learn the alphabet while learning about winter. Kids will get to do hiking games and activities that help them learn their ABCs, motor skills, and more!

WINTER TRACKING GAMES

Kids will learn how to identify common animal footprints, as well as learn the basic skills to find their “opponent,” track them, and sneak up on them while playing games and doing activities. These skills are useful for hunters, photographers, and nature enthusiasts as well as for the characters from our favorite survival movies and books. Take on the challenges and see if you ultimately triumph on your way to becoming a master tracker! Expect to be outdoors for the whole 3-hour program.

Your family will learn skills through activities and games that will help them learn what to do in a survival situation. Learn about snow and winter through a variety of engaging activities and games for early learners. These are also activities that adults will be able to continue to do at home with the kids so they can get outdoors all winter long! So, make sure you and your littles are dressed for the weather as most of the time will be spent outdoors.

Build a snowman. Have a snowman challenge with your family or neighbors. Vote for the most creative and best-looking snow person.

Go ice skating, play hockey or broomball at Central, Jaycee or Bloomfield Parks. Each location has a warming house.

Admire local holiday decorations and lights. Go for a family walk or drive and try to find the best house in your neighborhood. Pack some popcorn and turn on holiday tunes for the ride!

Take a winter hike through Carroll Woods or around Central Park and use it as a learning opportunity by looking for animal tracks, taking pictures and collecting items you find. Research the items you pick up or photograph.

Build a fort at Schwarz Pond Park with sticks and branches or if weather allows, snow forts are a great way to get out of the house, get some exercise, and inspire little imaginations!

Make snow angels anywhere! Better yet, create snow angels at night while you gaze at the stars.

Warm up around a campfire. The sound of the fire crackling is enough to make it worthwhile.

Have a snowball fight.

Go snow tubing or sledding. Hit the neighborhood hills with your little ones and enjoy an outdoor adventure sure to burn off some energy!

SNAPOLOGY

Snapology’s approach is based on proven research that children’s best learning experiences come from actively designing, creating, interacting, and inventing. Snapology activities encourage social skills and teamwork while teaching science, technology, engineering, art, math, and literacy concepts. We’ve built our programs based on proven research to effectively teach STEM skills while engaging children in fun, interactive play. Educating children on STEM concepts has become a large focus in our school systems over the past few years, but many schools don’t have the resources to allow children to explore these concepts in a fun, interactive manner. At Snapology, it is our mission to inspire children to pursue careers in STEM fields through educational play and hands-on learning at a young age.

If so, this workshop is the perfect space for your young architect or city planner to sharpen their design and building skills! In this workshop, students will learn all about the importance of collaboration, careful planning, and skillful execution of their building plans. DECEMBER 27 - COMBAT ROBOTS Do you think you can build the strongest and most agile robot? Can your robot win a headto-head combat mission? Come learn engineering strategies for building sturdy structures using LEGO® bricks and then apply that knowledge to build a robot for friendly competition. You’ll have a blast as you play robot football and complete the hoop challenge in this fun robotics program. DECEMBER 28 - SUPERHEROES & THE SCIENCE OF SUPER POWERS To the Batcave fans! In Snapology’s Science of Superpowers program, children will learn about the science behind their favorite heroes’ powers. DECEMBER 29 - SUPERSTRUCTURES Does your builder enjoy designing beautiful buildings or functional spaces for their mini-figures? If so, this program is the perfect space for your young architect to sharpen their design and building skills! All buildings, from the Empire State Building to the house next door, started as an idea in an architect’s head. Students will learn how to take an idea from their head and turn it into a building in the real world. They will be guided through the building process, from creating a floor plan to disaster-proofing the structure, so that they will be able to create the next best thing in architecture! Snapology Junior’s Shapes, Colors, and Counting class makes math fun! Concept and reasoning development begins very early for children and is a key component for preschool and kindergarten readiness. In Snapology Junior’s Shapes, Colors, and Counting program, your little one will begin to identify basic shapes, where those shapes appear in their environment, and recognize colors and numbers in a variety of ways. JANUARY 25 - ANIMAL EXPLORERS The animals living in our backyards or in our towns are very different from the animals in other parts of the world. In Snapology’s Animal Explorers class, students will learn where animals live and why an animal’s habitat is important for survival. Through stories, games, and building animals with DUPLO® blocks, your little learner will be busy exploring biomes of the world while gaining critical social and developmental skills without even realizing it! The Rosemount Learn to Skate program offers a basic skills program. This program offers a skill progression designed to enhance the capabilities of all skaters. Please look carefully at the class descriptions. It is not uncommon for a student to repeat a level before mastering all the skills at that level. All classes are held on Monday evenings at the Rosemount Ice Arena, 13885 South Robert Trail. Questions should be directed to Rosemount Parks & Recreation at 651-322-6000. LEARN TO SKATE SPECIAL NOTES

• Skaters and/or parents must have ice skates to participate. No roller blades or other type of skate. • Protective headgear is required in all classes. Bike helmets or lightweight hockey helmets are acceptable. • Only skaters enrolled in the Learn to Skate program may be on the ice. • Name Tags: All skaters should pick up their name tags as they enter the arena. Class time, class level and class color are on the tag. Skaters should skate to the corresponding color on the glass at their lesson time. • Class Attire: Skaters should wear warm, comfortable clothing. Dress in layers so jackets and sweaters can be removed as the skaters warm up. Mittens or gloves are a must. No tight jeans as they restrict movement. • Rental skates are not available. Please make sure your skate blades are sharp and your boots fit properly. No double-blade skates are allowed.

P.A.L.S. - PARENT AND LITTLE SKATER: This class is designed for parents and new skaters to learn basic skills together. Some of the skills included are forward marching, twofoot glides, dips, and starting backward wiggles. 3’S/4’S CLASS: This class is designed for 3 and 4 year olds who have no to little experience with ice skating. They will learn basic skills such as forward marching, two-foot glides, dips, and starting backward wiggles. • 3’s/4’s Beginner class: This class is for 3 and 4 year olds who have very little to no ice skating experience. • 3’s/4’s Advanced class: This class is for 3 and 4 year olds who have some to minimal ice skating experience. Once all 4 levels are passed students will advance to Basic 3. This curriculum is designed to develop the preliminary coordination and strength necessary to move on skates. • Snow Plow Sam 1: This class is designed for kids 4-7 years old who have no to minimal ice skating experience. They will learn the following basic skills: forward marching, glides, dips, and start backwards wiggles. • Snow Plow Sam 2: This class is designed for kids 4-7 years old who have passed Snow Plow Sam 1. They will continue to practice skills learned in SPS 1 as well as learning new skills such as: backward wiggles, swizzles and beginning snow plow stop. • Snow Plow Sam 3: This class is designed for kids 4-7 years old who have passed Snow Plow Sam 1 and 2. THE BASIC SIX: These six levels introduce the fundamentals of skating moves which include forward and backward skating, stops, crossovers and turns. Upon completion of the Basic Six, skaters will have the knowledge to advance to the Free Skate Levels. • Basic 1: This class is designed for skaters ages 4 and up with little or no skating experience. Skaters will learn the following basic skills: forward/backward skating, swizzles, stopping, etc. • Basic 2-3: These classes are designed for skaters who have passed Basic 1 and/or Snow Plow Sam level 4. Skaters will be evaluated the first night to determine appropriate basic skills level. • Basic 2: Skaters will work on scooter pushes, one foot glides, moving stops, etc. • Basic 3: Skaters will work on backward one foot glide, backward swizzles, forward slalom, etc. • Basic 4-6: Designed for skaters who have passed Basic 3. They must have experience and have passed the Basic Skills levels before signing up for pre-free skate. • Free Skate 1-4: Skaters will continue practicing previously learned skills in pre-free skate. REMODELING PROJECT AT THE ROSEMOUNT ARMORY/COMMUNITY CENTER The Rosemount National Guard is planning a large remodeling project at the Rosemount Armory/Community Center. The National Guard has indicated that they hope to start the project sometime in the first quarter of 2024. Updates will be made once the construction timeline is established. GERMAN HISTORY TOUR This trip will take us to downtown Minneapolis where a tour guide will give us an insightful look at the history of the German migration to Minnesota. They influenced cultural organizations, businesses, politics, and the Catholic and Lutheran churches in the metro area. Germans were the largest ancestry group in Minnesota according to the 2000 census and are also the largest single immigrant group in Minnesota history. Stops will be made at some interesting Germanic-American sites, and we will learn about things like the Christmas Tree tradition, breweries, Minnesota 13 whiskey, grasshoppers, and amazing bakeries. After the tour we will head to Gluek’s Restaurant in Minneapolis for German-style meal. The origin of Gluek’s Bar & Restaurant can be traced back to 1855, when brewer Gottlieb Gluek arrived in Minneapolis from his native Germany. Choice of: 1) Schweineschnitzle Spaetzle, a premium center-cut pork loin tenderized and encrusted with seasoned marble rye breadcrumbs, fried and topped with a classic German-style

HOCOKATA TI & SHAKOPEE HISTORY Arrive at Hocokata Ti (ho-cho-kah-tah-tee) in Shakopee for a guided walking tour through the exhibits. This is the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community’s (SMSC) cultural center and gathering space. It is used to interpret and encourage traditional Mdewakanton Dakota cultural heritage, language, and history by sustaining this inherent knowledge for SMSC Members through exhibitions, preservation, and education. After the tour, spend time in the Hocokata Ti gift shop. It features a variety of Native-made art, books, music, beaded and quilled items, and craft supplies that build upon the cultural center’s mission to educate visitors about the Dakota people. We will then have lunch at Ruby’s Family Restaurant in Shakopee for the luncheon combo special with a small salad, cup of soup, half sandwich, beverage and cookie or bar. After lunch we will go to the Scott County Historical Museum. Take time to explore the artifacts and archives that reveal the story

OLDER ADULT TRIPS IRISH INFLUENCE IN ST. PAUL Have a fun and informative day in St. Paul learning about the influence of the Irish in Minnesota’s capitol city. In St. Paul, meet a professional step-on tour guide for an informative riding tour. A tour guide will join us on the bus to talk about how Irish immigrants influenced the city’s architecture, politics, religion and more. If weather permits, we will get off the bus at a few locations as well. After the tour, we will have lunch at O’Malley’s Irish Pub in Woodbury featuring handcrafted booths, fireplace and more. SENIOR DRIVER IMPROVEMENT

These classroom-driving courses will provide you with a certificate that by state law permits a reduction in your insurance premiums. The certificate is good for three years! 8-Hour Program: Drivers over 55 are eligible to receive a 10% discount on their auto insurance upon completion of this program. This 8-hour program offers a learning experience for participants by providing instruction from a certified professional who uses the most up-to-date research in the field. Topics covered include but are not limited to: visual scanning techniques, steering techniques, antilock brake systems, airbag safety and new vehicle technology.

YOGA – 50+ Join certified instructors Stacey Popp (Tuesdays) and Lori Kampa (Thursdays) for this 50+ Yoga class. Proper breathing and gentle postures will be taught to enhance physical strength and mobility. Chairs are available and can be used to adapt poses for your comfort. Membership: The Rosemount Area Seniors (RAS) is a social group that hosts a variety of card games and other activities and events at the Steeple Center along with the Parks & Recreation Department. While membership is not required to participate in these or any other activities at the Steeple Center, there are some benefits to becoming a member. A $10/person annual fee that covers a calendar year gets you a discount on the monthly catered luncheons and mystery trips typically hosted twice per year, and you will get a copy of the News from the Steeple Center monthly newsletter mailed directly to your home. The FPP of Rosemount has produced many shows over the past years, including classics like Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House and The Importance of Being Earnest, murder mysteries, comedies, and the original play, Free Air. SECOND ACT PLAYERS (SAP) RAAC has a senior theater group made up of 50+ adults – some with theater experience and many without. SAP puts on two plays each year. It also has an Outreach program that goes on the road to senior housing groups, nursing homes, and assisted living centers, presenting a program of light-hearted skits and songs. There are many ways to participate. Just come and have fun! If you’re over 50, you automatically can be part of SAP when you join RAAC. ART EXHIBITS RAAC curates the Steeple Center and Robert Trail Library art galleries. Professional artists’ work is shown at the Steeple Center for 2-3 months each, while emerging and student artists’ work is shown monthly at the library. Admission is free during Steeple Center and library hours. UFOs & PHDs – (Unfinished Objects and Projects Half Done) Bring your unfinished handwork projects and spend the afternoon among fellow crafters. Come check out the Steeple Center! The facility is open Mondays-Thursdays, 8:30am-3:30pm and Fridays from 8:30am12pm, with evenings and weekends dependent on scheduled events and activities. The facility features a lobby area with a beautiful fireplace, gorgeous floor to ceiling windows and café-style seating, which is open to the general public. It is a great place to stop in for a cup of coffee, play a card or board game with a friend from our fully stocked game cabinet, or meet new people!
