Fall Clean-Up Day The City of Rosemount will be hosting its annual Fall Clean-Up Day on Saturday, October 1 from 8am to 12pm at the Rosemount Public Works Facility. Once again Rosemount will partner with the Michelle Hoagland Group, Keller Williams Preferred Realty to hold a free Paper Shredding Event as part of the City’s Fall Clean-Up Day.

Halloween Trail Who Done It Hike Saturday, September 10 Hike the trails on your own between 9am - 1pm at Ritter Farm Park in Lakeville while solving clues and gathering information to solve a mystery. This is a dog friendly event. See page 3.
The annual Halloween Trail is scheduled for Saturday, October 29 from 6pm– 8pm. This event is held at Central Park (across from City Hall). This year’s Halloween celebration will provide a fun-filled evening for preschool through middle-school aged youth. The trail will begin at the lower level of the Shamrock Animal Hospital parking lot (The Warehouse Fitness Center) on Highway 3 (South Robert Trail), wind its way through Central Park, and exit on 145th Street West. MEA BREAK STORYWALK The Robert Trail Library and Rosemount Parks and Recreation are once again teaming up to offer a Storywalk though Central Park during MEA Break. Take a self-guided walk in the park on Thursday, October 20-Sunday, October 23 while reading pages from the children’s book Ten Pigs By Derek Anderson. A StoryWalk is an innovative and delightful way for children and adults to enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time. Laminated pages from a children’s book will be installed along the path around the pond at Central Park. As you stroll down the trail, you’re directed to the next page in the story. This Storywalk is about ¾ of a mile and stroller friendly. Laugh out loud in this hysterical epic counting bath adventure with a squeaky clean twist! One pig looks to take a relaxing bath in solitude, only to be joined by another pig, then another, then another. When Pig Number 10 jumps into the crowded tub, the first pig comes up with a plan to enjoy his bath.

2022 SCARECROW DECORATING CONTEST Are you excited for FALL? Rosemount Parks and Recreation is, and what better way to celebrate than by making a Scarecrow! This contest is FREE to enter and is open to all Rosemount residents. Registration will open online on Wednesday,September 21, 2022. Scarecrows must be displayed by noon on Wednesday, October 26. This event is sponsored by Pellicci Hardware.
SCARECROW COMPETITION RULES AND GUIDELINES • Anyone is welcome to enter the scarecrow competition. • To participate, entrants must register and have their scarecrows on display by Wednesday, October 26 at noon. Judging will take place on Thursday, October 27. • All scarecrows must be built from scratch by the entrant. You can use any materials you like to build your scarecrow. There are no restrictions, with the exception that no commercial creations are allowed, including anything used for the face of the scarecrow. • Creativity and originality – judges will be looking for scarecrows with that little bit extra. It may be the materials used, the way the scarecrow has been made and how it is displayed, or simply a fantastic idea that catches the judge’s eye. • All scarecrows must be made and displayed in good taste. Any entrant designing their scarecrow to cause deliberate offense will be disqualified. All scarecrows must be absent of adult, political or religious themes. • All scarecrows must be displayed at the front of your property and should be positioned so it is not necessary for anyone to access the property in order to view them. By entering the scarecrow competition, you are confirming that you accept these rules and agree that your address may be published on different formats so the community will be able to view the scarecrows. Pictures of the winning scarecrows will be posted on City of Rosemount social media accounts. Gift certificates from our sponsor, Pellicci Hardware will be awarded to the top three scarecrows. This year’s Halloween celebration will provide a fun-filled evening for preschool through middle-school aged youth. HALLOWEEN PUMPKIN COMPOSTING When the festivities of Halloween are over, you may wonder what to do with your leftover spooky pumpkin creations. Fortunately, the City of Rosemount will be offering a pumpkin collection the weekend after Halloween! Rosemount residents can drop their pumpkins in the containers on the north end of the lower City Hall parking lot any time from Friday, November 4 to Sunday, November 6. Painted pumpkins and pumpkins with excessive wax or other inorganic residue cannot be accepted. Please do not put anything other than pumpkins or gourds in the container. Kids will enjoy creating various holiday crafts while everyone enjoys a continental-style breakfast of muffins, donuts, fruit, yogurt, juice, hot cocoa and coffee. Connecting People to Nature by “TEACHING ANYTHING OUTDOORS”. That is the mission of EcoElsa LLC. Natural spaces provide many opportunities for people whether it is as a place to stay physically active, to rest and relax, to be curious and explore, and so much more! This is why EcoElsa curriculum and programs are developed to show how nature can be a space for teaching different subjects and topics; and for different learning styles.
PRESCHOOL LEAF SCIENCE & ART Bring your preschooler to this fun class with science and art activities all around fall leaves. Kids and parents will learn together how to use leaves for science experiments and art projects. This class is full of great family fun while also learning about fall and why leaves change colors!
HOMESCHOOL NATURE STEM CLASS Learn how scientists and engineers study nature to find solutions to fix the problems we face in this STEM class. Kids will put their problem-solving skills and creativity to the test to find a solution to a variety of challenges like earthquake proofing buildings, designing prosthetic limbs, and more!

BIOLOGIST EXPLORER FAMILY CLASS Join EcoElsa to learn how to observe different animals and collect data about them and their habitats as well as how to report that data as a “citizen scientist.” Class will include getting to interact with a wide variety of plants and small wildlife like insects, amphibians, snakes, and birds as well as using different science tools to do their research and exploring.

LEARN TO SKATE SPECIAL NOTES
• Skaters and/or parents must have ice skates to participate. No roller blades or other type of skate. • Protective headgear is required in all classes. Bike helmets or lightweight hockey helmets are acceptable. • Only skaters enrolled in the Learn to Skate program may be on the ice. • Name Tags: All skaters should pick up their name tags as they enter the arena. Class time, class level and class color are on the tag. Skaters should skate to the corresponding color on the glass at their lesson time. • Class Attire: Skaters should wear warm, comfortable clothing. Dress in layers so jackets and sweaters can be removed as the skaters warm up. Mittens or gloves are a must. No tight jeans as they restrict movement. • Rental skates are not available. P.A.L.S. - PARENT AND LITTLE SKATER: This class is designed for parents and new skaters to learn basic skills together. Some of the skills included are forward marching, twofoot glides, dips, and starting backward wiggles. 3’S/4’S CLASS: This class is designed for 3 and 4 year olds who have no to little experience with ice skating. They will learn basic skills such as forward marching, two-foot glides, dips, and starting backward wiggles. • 3’s/4’s Beginner class: This class is for 3 and 4 year olds who have very little to no ice skating experience. • 3’s/4’s Advanced class: This class is for 3 and 4 year olds who have some to minimal ice skating experience. They should know how to do the following skills: standing up on the ice, forward marching and some backwards skating. SNOW PLOW SAM (4-7 YEARS OLD): There are four levels in this curriculum. Once all 4 levels are passed students will advance to Basic 3. This curriculum is designed to develop the preliminary coordination and strength necessary to move on skates. • Snow Plow Sam 1: This class is designed for kids 4-7 years old who have no to minimal ice skating experience. They will learn the following basic skills: forward marching, glides, dips, and start backwards wiggles. • Snow Plow Sam 2: This class is designed for kids 4-7 years old who have passed Snow Plow Sam 1. They will continue to practice skills learned in SPS 1 as well as learning new skills such as: backward wiggles, swizzles and beginning snow plow stop. • Snow Plow Sam 3: This class is designed for kids 4-7 years old who have passed Snow Plow Sam 1 and 2. Skaters will continue practicing skills from the previous levels as well as learn new skills such as: one foot glides, forward and backward swizzles, etc. • Snow Plow Sam 4: This class is designed for kids 4-7 years old who have passed Snow Plow Sam 1, 2, and 3. Skaters will continue practicing previously learned skills as well as new skills such as: backward two foot glide, backward swizzles, rocking horse, etc.

THE BASIC SIX: These six levels introduce the fundamentals of skating moves which include forward and backward skating, stops, crossovers and turns. Upon completion of the Basic Six, skaters will have the knowledge to advance to the Free Skate Levels. • Basic 1: This class is designed for skaters ages 4 and up with little or no skating experience. Skaters will learn the following basic skills: forward/backward skating, swizzles, stopping, etc. • Basic 2-3: These classes are designed for skaters who have passed Basic 1 and/or Snow Plow Sam level 4. Skaters will be evaluated the first night to determine appropriate basic skills level. • Basic 2: Skaters will work on scooter pushes, one foot glides, moving stops, etc. • Basic 3: Skaters will work on backward one foot glide, backward swizzles, forward slalom, etc. • Basic 4-6: Designed for skaters who have passed Basic 3. Skaters will work on edges, crossovers, spins, stroking, etc. • Basic 4: Skaters will practice previous skills as well as learn backward skating, turns, edges, etc. • Basic 5: Skaters will work on crossovers, backward pumps, edges, spins, etc. • Basic 6: Skaters will work on backward crossovers, edges, turns, spins, etc. PRE-FREE SKATE AND FREE SKATE 1-4: Designed for figure skaters that have passed Basic 6. • Pre-Free Skate: Skaters will work on 3-turns, edges, crossovers, and beginning spins. They must have experience and have passed the Basic Skills levels before signing up for pre-free skate. • Free Skate 1-4: Skaters will continue practicing previously learned skills in pre-free skate. They will learn how to do spins, backward 3-turns/edges, etc. HOCKEY TRACK (4 years and older that have passed Snow Plow Sam Level 4 or Basic 2) Designed for skaters who plan to play hockey or are currently playing hockey. Pond Hockey is for the fun and enjoyment of everyone regardless of your level of skill. There are elements of risk in the sport of hockey so use common sense, show courtesy to others, and anticipate dangerous situations before they arise. The following guidelines are basic elements of safety and courtesy. It is understood that: • Full equipment is required for all participants. • No checking or contact! • You must pay, present punch card or check in prior to skating. • Report any dangerous situations or behavior to staff immediately. • Participants in the sport of hockey are doing so at their own risk. • No organized drills. • Everyone can play regardless of ability; pass the puck. • No one likes a puck hog. • Respect the ice. • Please do not litter or use foul language. • If needed, staff will split the ice into 2 groups playing side to side.

If an activity is cancelled, you will be notified as soon as possible and receive a full refund. REFUND POLICY: Registration fees for programs cancelled by the Parks and Recreation Department or cancelled by the participant prior to the registration deadline will be fully refunded. “A Most Beautiful Thing” follows the story of the first African American public high school rowing team in the United States. Formed in the 1990s at Manley High School and based in Chicago’s West Side, the team was made up of young men, many of whom were members of rival gangs. “The Bikes of Wrath” is about five Aussie friends who attempt to cycle from Oklahoma to California in honor of John Steinbeck’s classic novel The Grapes of Wrath. They follow the same route that farmers took during the Dust Bowl Migration of the 1930s. “Amazing Grace” stars Aretha Franklin recording her 1972 live gospel album of the same name.

STEEPLE CENTER Come check out the Steeple Center! The facility is open Mondays-Thursdays, 8:30am-3:30pm and Fridays from 8:30am12pm, with evenings and weekends dependent on scheduled events and activities. The facility features a lobby area with a beautiful fireplace, gorgeous floor to ceiling windows and café-style seating, which is open to the general public. It is a great place to stop in for a cup of coffee, play a card or board game with a friend from our fully stocked game cabinet, or meet new people! The Steeple Center is home to the Rosemount Area Seniors and all senior programming (see pages 24-31 for more information), as well as many programs and events hosted by the Rosemount Area Arts Council.

PARKS PARK RESERVATIONS (SHELTER RENTALS)
We have great sites for picnics and parties! Do you need a site for a family picnic or birthday party? Open and enclosed park shelters in the City of Rosemount can be reserved for a nominal fee. Open shelters can be reserved by residents for $32 plus tax per day ($53 plus tax for nonresidents). Enclosed shelters are $84 plus tax per day for residents ($137 plus tax for nonresidents). To reserve your spot, please call the Parks and Recreation Department at 651-322-6011. Highlights of Park Rules • No glass containers are permitted in the parks. • Consumption of alcoholic beverages is allowed with a special permit in parks with shelters only. • Motorized vehicles are prohibited in the parks outside of the parking lot areas. • Dogs or other animals must be on a leash no longer than six feet. • All persons in control of an animal on park property shall always have in their possession, an apparatus which can be used for cleaning up feces and/or a bag for proper disposal of feces. The person in control of the animal is responsible for picking up his/her animal’s feces and proper disposal. • Charcoal fires permitted in barbecue grills only. No wood fires are allowed. • Golfing is not allowed in any of the Rosemount City parks. • All areas surrounding organized youth activities in City-owned parks are to remain tobacco free while youth are present.
PARK FACILITIES AND AMENITIES Brockway Disc Golf Course The Brockway Park disc golf course is located on the site of the old Brockway Golf Course at the corner of Highway 3 and Connemara Trail. The nine-hole disc course features rolling hills and mature oak trees. The course plays 2,915 feet from the back tees and 1,875 feet from the forward tees. Parking is provided on the north side of the course along Bronze Parkway. Skate Park The Rosemount Skate Park is located just north of the Rosemount Community Center in Schwarz Pond Park at 13787 Dodd Blvd. The most convenient access to the skate park is south on Dodd Blvd from Connemara Trail. This facility is intended for use by skate boarders, in-line skaters and BMX bikers of all abilities. The hours of operation are 6am to 10pm. Users of the skate park are strongly encouraged to wear helmets, kneepads and other protective gear while enjoying the facilities. PARKS Amphitheater Planning a special event or party for your family or business? Rent the amphitheater at Central Park and add entertainment for an event to remember. The tiered seating can accommodate up to 2000 people. Call 651-322-6011 for more information. Splash Pad The Splash Pad is located at Central Park at 2875 145th Street West. You will find it is a great way to cool off in the summer’s heat! There is no charge to visit the splash pad and it offers a variety of age appropriate water spray features that will keep kids of all ages smiling while staying cool. There is plenty of shade near the pad under the sun shelter and the indoor restrooms are available at the Central Park shelter. Tennis Courts Tennis courts can be found in Erickson Park at 14115 Brazil Avenue. The City of Rosemount built 4 new courts with the help of a grant from the United States Tennis Association (USTA). The courts are equipped with lights for night time play. Courts can also be found at Bloomfield, Charlies and Claret parks Ga Ga Pits Ga Ga Pits are located at Camfield and Greystone Parks. Gaga ball is a game somewhat like dodgeball but played with a foam ball, and in an octagonal court or gaga pit. The game combines dodging, striking, running, and jumping, with the object of being the last person standing. Players hit the ball at each other with their hands and are eliminated if the ball strikes them on or below the knee. The game can be played by a group of individual players or with teams, as well as in one-on-one matches. Give it a try this summer! Zip Lines Zip lines can be found at Ailesbury and Schwarz Pond Parks. Hammocks Hammock Use in City Parks – Hammocks are okay to use in City parks and the City actually encourages people to find a spot to hang out. Often our City parks have mature trees that can be used to attach your “mock” to or you can also use the poles of a small sun shelter or playground to tie up to. This summer the City will be looking at adding places to hang a hammock in parks.
NATURE BASED PLAY Schwarz Pond Natural playgrounds help children to develop other beneficial behaviors in addition to physical skills. These behaviors include social skills, cooperation, and the ability to solve problems. In addition, natural playgrounds stimulate a child’s imagination and creativity.
