Welcome readers to the “News from the Steeple Center”, a publication for 55 plus/seniors in the Rosemount community. The Steeple Center houses the majority of the programs and events for those 55 plus. Programs are offered by the City of Rosemount Parks & Recreation Department.

AndrewPetersonemigratedfromSweden andarrivedinMinnesotain1855,andhisjournalwasusedastheprimarysourceforauthorVilhelmMoberg’s Emigrantsbookseries. Thetourwillprovideinsightintothelivesof19thcenturySwedishimmigrants. *Note: therewillbeafairamountofwalkingandstandingandsomeunevenground,sowearappropriatefootwear. WewillthenvisittheCarverCountyHistoricalSociety,whichincludesfivehistorygalleriestellingthestoryof thecounty’sheritageaswellasaveterans’exhibit. Inadditiontothewonderfulplantlifeandintentional landscaping,you’llseearound20colorfulkoithatswimfromlagoontopool,underbridgesandaroundrocks. ThenextstopwillbetheLyndaleParkRoseGardeninsouthMinneapolis. Plantedin1908,itisthesecond oldestpublicrosegardenintheU.S.andwasdesignedbyTheodoreWirthwhilehewassuperintendentofthe MinneapolisParkssystem. Thereareover3,000rosesofover250varietiesondisplay,andduringitspeak season,thegardencancontainabout60,000blooms.ThegardenthemecontinueswithlunchatPatrick’s BakeryandCafelocatedinBachman’sGreenhouse. ThePHD/UFO(ProjectsHalfDone/UnfishedObjects) groupisnotacraftsgroup,butpeoplewhoenjoy creatingworksofartinvariousFibermediums. The typesofworkinvolvequilting,embroidery,woolwork, needlepoint,crossstitch,hardanger,knitting,crocheting, crewel,woolfeltingandanyothertypesoffiberart. Peoplejointhegroupnotonlytoworkontheirprojects buttolearnfromothers,showofftheirfinishedwork, andtosocialize.

Thereisnofeetojointhegroupnordoesonehavetobe aRAACmember. Anyonecancomeandjointhegroup andbringtheirPHD/UFOswiththem. Welovetoseethe differentfinishedprojectsandlearnnewtechniquesthat othersareusing.
