Caponi Art Park Workshops Macramé Plant Shelves* Wednesday, July 27, 1:30-3:30pm Steeple Center, Room 202 Cost: $28 Register By: Wednesday, July 20 Enjoy a blast from the past with the once-againpopular form, Macrame. A fixture of every 1970s home, this art form is making a comeback on the contemporary art scene. In this project, participants will learn a variety of knot-tying techniques to create a unique macrame project perfect for any home.

Seed Mosaics*

Wednesday, August 31, 1:30-3:00pm Steeple Center, Room 202 Cost: $12 Register By: Wednesday, August 24 Every year the Minnesota State Fair showcases seed mosaics created by artists from all over the state. In our seed mosaic workshop, participants will continue this great tradition by creating their own works of seed art. Participants will learn about the history and techniques of mosaic art and create a design of their own! Once completed, participants will share their own designs with others in the group and share this Minnesotan art form with their families.

Wednesday, August 10, 2:00-2:45pm Steeple Center, Assembly Hall FREE! Register By: Monday, August 8 Have you heard of this new trend ?! Follow choreographed movements while drumming along to the beat of fun songs. This activity can help improve balance, hand-eye coordination and muscle control. Turns out exercise really can be fun! For this class, we will follow along with a video. If there is enough interest, we will try to make this a regular class. Come try it out! *Requires pre-registration. The Steeple Center houses the majority of the programs and events for those 55 plus. Programs are offered by the City of Rosemount Parks & Rec and the Rosemount Area Seniors.

Rosemount Area Seniors Information

Picnic Luncheon Tuesday, August 2 RSVP Deadline: July 26 $13 for members/$15 for non-members 11:30am Lunch 12:15pm Entertainment Camfield Park, 14795 Canada Ave. Join us at Camfield Park for a picnic luncheon! Attendees will receive a delicious boxed lunch from Suzie’s Kitchen. Each box will include a choice of ham or turkey sandwich, potato salad and a cookie (please make selection at registration). A bottle of water will be provided. Please bring any other beverage you might like. Entertainment will also be included in the event—Make it Mary will be there to liven things up! In the event of inclement weather, we will move the luncheon to Assembly Hall at the Steeple Center. Preregistration and payment is required. Registration envelopes with payment enclosed can be placed in the RAS drop box located at the Steeple Center.

The Rosemount Area Seniors are once again selling the annual Leprechaun Days buttons! They cost just $1 and earn you a chance to win some wonderful prizes! Buttons are for sale at the Steeple Center and at several local businesses. If you would be interested in helping to sell buttons at some of the Leprechaun Days events, please contact an RAS board member.

Stillwater Trolley Tour* FULL W/WAITLIST Wednesday, September 14 Registration Deadline: Monday, August 15 Cost - $90/person Bus leaves Community Center at 8:45am and returns at approximately 4:00pm Board a colorful old-time trolley for a narrated tour of the history, folklore & old mansions in beautiful Stillwater. Journey back in time to the era of Victorian finery and turnof-the-century charm. Nestled in the wooded hills and bluffs of the beautiful St. Croix River, Stillwater is a treasure that time forgot. Multicolored Victorian homes dot the landscape. This distinctive community has a wealth of 19th century Greek Revival, Queen Anne and Italianate architecture. See the historic Stillwater Lift Bridge, constructed in 1931. Hear about Stillwater’s founders and the influential lumber barons. We will then enjoy lunch at the historic Lowell Inn, opened in 1927 and known as the “Mt. Vernon of the Midwest”. Elmer Lowell created a lush and elegant hotel that still stands the test of time. Fine dining rooms were established and have been restored where we will enjoy Chicken a la King, which features tender pieces of chicken, mushrooms, red and green peppers in a sherry cream sauce served over a puff pastry shell, mashed potatoes, vegetable of the day, beverage and a small dessert. After lunch we will have some time to explore downtown Stillwater and the many establishments such as antique shops, coffee houses, breweries and more. Our last stop of the day will be at Aamodt’s Apple Farm and St. Croix Vineyards to pick up some goodies.

Proper breathing and gentle postures will be taught to enhance strength and mobility. Chairs are available and can be used to adapt poses for your comfort. The class environment will help promote peaceful, joyful and healthy individuals. Participants are encouraged to bring their own mats.

Movie in the Park

The Rosemount Area Arts Council (RAAC) hosts many exciting events at the Steeple Center that you can take advantage of. Tickets can be purchased online at RAAC’s website www.rosemountarts.com, at the Steeple Center during their Box Office Hours (Mondays 10am12pm, Tuesdays 8:30-10:30am and Thursdays 1-3pm), or at the door .

Saturday, August 20 at Dusk Central Park FREE! Bring your blankets and lawn chairs and enjoy a screening of “The Sandlot”, the classic coming of age baseball movie.

BYOC Music Night Saturday, August 13, 5:00-9:00pm Central Park FREE! Bring your own cooler, bring your own chair (BYOC) and enjoy some free entertainment at Central Park! Music by TPK (Them Pesky Kids) will begin at 6:30pm, and The Rustic Chef and Youniverse Foodie Waffles food trucks will be on site.

Adults of all ages are invited to “walk about” the Community Center. Maintain your walking program all year round, rain or shine, heat or sleet. Weather is no longer an excuse! Walking maps are available at the Parks and Recreation Office located on the lower level of the RCC, 13885 South Robert Trail.

Second Act Players The Second Act Players of Rosemount is a membership organization for seniors age 50 and over, interested in the theater. There are many opportunities for becoming involved, including: acting in plays and skits, set construction, stage management, directing, lighting and sound operation, script writing, costume design, classes, field trips, improvisational workshops, community outreach, and more. “Old Hams” Second Act Players Performances— $15 Thursday, August 18, 6:00pm Friday, August 19, 7:00pm Saturday, August 20, 2:00pm and 7:00pm

Synopsis: The Ophelia L. Davis Home for Actors, Musicians and Singers is a 1920s manor in 21st century Burbank, CA. Its residents, who have called it home for over 40 years, all worked in film, radio, or TV. They include two sisters, a leading man who could never remember his lines, a man of 999 faces, and a mystic who hasn’t had a correct vision in years! Their friend and former owner of the home, Ophelia Davis, died leaving the older performers in a terrible predicament. The taxes are due and if they can’t be raised, the son of Ophelia’s attorney, Ben, will sell the house so he can make millions when the land is used for a shopping mall. At wit’s end, the performers turn to Ophelia’s Granddaughter and a nephew for help. Using all their acting skills, some clever disguises, and a missing lottery ticket, they manage to turn a garage sale into a hilarious showdown. It makes for a fun filled and unexpected ending. The strong characters and plot makes this show memorable for both actors and audiences!

Be it knitting, crocheting, beadwork, embroidery, wool work or any other type of hand work, we would love to have you join our group. This is a social group hoping to finish projects while enjoying the camaraderie found with like artists. There is no fee associated with joining this group.
