Becoming Your Best Self Five Petals, One Journey
We understand how significant this transition is for both our students and their parents and carers. Our Transition Programme, Becoming Your Best Self, has been designed to ensure you as a family are supported throughout your first year at Rosebery, creating strong foundations for success over the next seven years with us.
Primary School Meetings
We really value the opportunity to visit your daughter’s primary school and begin getting to know her as an individual. Meeting with Year 6 teachers allows us to gain a meaningful understanding of each student’s strengths, interests and what makes them unique.
These visits are already taking place and help us to ensure that every girl feels supported from the very start, as we consider the best ways to guide and nurture her through a smooth and successful transition to Rosebery School.
Pastoral Interviews
We recognise that the transition to secondary school can feel new and sometimes a little uncertain for both students and their families.
For those who would find it helpful, we are pleased to offer the opportunity for a one-to-one meeting with a member of the Year 7 Team in early June. These meetings are entirely optional and are there to support you and your daughter, offering a space to ask any questions and share any thoughts or concerns you may have. We hope this will help ensure your
daughter feels as confident and reassured as possible as she prepares to join us. If you would like to arrange a meeting, please use the link in our recent letter, which has been sent directly to your email, to select a convenient time.
Form Classes
At Rosebery, we aim to create eight balanced tutor groups, each with around 30 to 31 students. Each form is identified by a code that reflects both the side of the year group and the house to which students belong. There are four X forms, where students study French, and four Y forms, where students study Spanish.
Our house system includes four inspirational figures: Curie, Elizabeth, Malala and Pankhurst . Each house has one X form and one Y form.
While many students will be placed in a form with at least one familiar face from their primary school, we also encourage them to see this as a wonderful opportunity to make new friends. Throughout the Year 7 transition, we plan a variety of activities to help students build connections - within their form, across their half of the year group, and beyond.
Tutor Reveal
On the Monday before Transition Day, you will receive information about which form your daughter has been placed in, along with the name of her form tutor.
To help you and your daughter feel more familiar and at ease, you will also be able to watch our Tutor Reveal videos on the school website from the evening before Transition Day. In these short videos, each tutor introduces themselves and shares a friendly message to help students feel reassured and ready for the day ahead.
Transition Day
Transition Day is a special opportunity for our new students to visit Rosebery and begin to feel part of the school community. During the day, students will meet their form group and form tutor and experience a taste of life at Rosebery.
We have planned an exciting range of activities, including science experiments, games, drama workshops and much more,
to help students settle in and enjoy their first day with us. This is an important part of supporting students as they settle into secondary school and will continue into September as part of our tutor time programme.
Summer School
We are delighted to invite your daughter to our Summer School, taking place at the very start of the summer holidays. While attendance is optional, we strongly encourage all new Year 7 students to join us for this exciting introduction to life at Rosebery School. During her time with us, your daughter will have the opportunity to build confidence, form new friendships, explore the school environment and take part in a range of engaging and enjoyable activities.
Students will have the chance to spend extended time in school, helping them to feel comfortable and confident in their new surroundings while getting to know others in their year group. We have planned a variety of fun activities, including icebreakers, treasure hunts, creative sessions, PE and much more. Further details, including dates and how to sign up, will be shared with you separately.
Induction Morning
The first day at Rosebery is an exciting and important milestone in the Year 7 journey. To help students feel settled and confident, Year 7 students attend on their own for the morning, giving them time and space to prepare for the year ahead.
During the morning, your daughter will attend her first assembly and spend time with her form tutor, learning about how the school day works and what to expect. She will also receive her timetable, enjoy a tour of the school, visit the canteen, and take her first class photo with her new form.
We will end the morning by introducing students to their Year 12 buddies, who will provide an additional layer of support and guidance throughout their first year at Rosebery.
Residential Trip
We are delighted to offer Year 7 students the opportunity to take part in our October residential trip. This optional experience is something we warmly recommend, as it plays an important role in helping students build strong friendships and feel a real sense of belonging early in their time at Rosebery. Through a range of outdoor activities and team challenges, students are encouraged to step outside of their comfort zones, try new things and grow in confidence. It is a wonderful chance for them to develop resilience, create lasting memories and feel proud of what they achieve.

At Rosebery, our Year 7 motto is “Have Courage, Be Kind.” This sits at the heart of everything we do and reflects our wider mission of being Ambitious & Joyful, Remarkable & Proud, and Ready. We want this motto to be something our students truly live by each day, not just words on a wall. Starting Year 7 is an exciting time, full of new opportunities, friendships and experiences. Kindness is at the centre of our community, and we encourage every student to look after one another, include others and make a positive difference both in school and beyond. We will continue to support and encourage students to show kindness in all that they do, helping them to feel proud of the role they play in our community.
We also want our students to be courageous - to try their best, believe in themselves and grow in confidence. Having courage means being willing to take on challenges, share ideas, keep going when things feel difficult, and step outside of their comfort zone. These are all important parts of becoming ready for the future and proud of what they achieve.
Throughout Year 7, there will be many opportunities for students to develop resilience, build confidence and experience success. We look forward to seeing every student embrace our motto, grow in character, and truly flourish as part of the Rosebery community.
Year 7 Journey
At Rosebery, we understand that the move from primary to secondary school is a journey that takes time. Transition is not completed in just a few months; it is an ongoing process that supports each student’s confidence, wellbeing and academic success throughout the whole year.
Our Year 7 journey is designed to build on the experiences of our transition programme, ensuring that this support continues as students settle into school life. By focusing on the whole student, we aim to nurture their personal growth, resilience and independence, helping them feel fully prepared and confident as they take the next steps in their learning.
School Day
The school day at Rosebery begins at 8.30am with Form Time and registration. Students then follow a timetable of five lessons, with a morning break and a lunch break built into the day.

Morning Break (10.50am to 11.10am)
Breaktime is a chance for students to pause, recharge and get ready for the rest of the morning. In these 20 minutes, students can:
• Enjoy a snack from the canteen
• Spend time with friends
• Get some fresh air or refill water bottles
• Take a moment to relax before their next lessons
There is a wide selection of healthy hot and cold food available, and plenty of outdoor space for socialising. If the weather is wet, students are given access to indoor areas so they can stay warm and comfortable.
Lunch (1.10pm to 2.00pm)
Lunchtime is a longer break, giving students time to enjoy a more substantial meal and recharge for the afternoon. As well as all the benefits of morning break, lunch offers even more opportunities to:
• Take part in clubs, competitions and house events
• Spend time with a wider group of friends
• Relax and prepare for the final lesson of the day

Our Curriculum
In primary school, your daughter will likely have been taught by one main teacher for most subjects. At Rosebery, lessons are taught by specialist teachers, and students move between classrooms throughout the day. This gives them access to excellent facilities such as science labs, drama studios and computer suites, helping to bring learning to life. Your daughter will also have the opportunity to study a wider range of subjects, including some that may be new or explored in greater depth.

Timetable
At Rosebery, we follow a two-week timetable, which helps to give students a broad and balanced range of lessons. Each student will receive their timetable on their first day. This will show (for each lesson)

• In their blazer pocket for easy access during the day
• At home for reference when preparing for school

Homework
There is no homework set during the first two weeks of Year 7. This gives your daughter time to settle in, build confidence and adjust to life at secondary school.
After this initial period, homework will begin in core subjects and will gradually increase, building up to a full homework timetable by the October half-term break. Homework may take a variety of forms, including:

• Research and revision tasks
• Preparing for assessments
• Creative mini projects to support learning
How Homework is Set
All homework is set on Microsoft Teams and can currently be viewed by parents on ePraise. Students will be shown how to use both platforms during their Computer Science lessons in the first few weeks, so they feel confident managing their work independently.
Support for Homework
We offer a range of support to help students succeed:
• Homework Club takes place once a week after school, providing a quiet space where students can complete work or ask for help.
• The Learning Resources Hub (LRH) is open every day before, during and after school. Students can use computers and printing facilities to help them complete their homework.
Equipment for School
The school will provide all exercise books and most resources needed for lessons. To help your daughter feel fully prepared, please ensure she brings the following items each day:

• Headphones with a standard 3.5mm jack. In-ear wired headphones are required for Music and Computing lessons and can be purchased easily and cheaply online. Students will be given more guidance on this during their first few weeks in September.

Pastoral Care
Our House System
At Rosebery, our pastoral system is built around four houses, each named after an inspirational woman who has made a lasting impact on the world:
CURIE
Named after Marie Curie, a Nobel Prize-winning scientist, known for her pioneering research and contributions to the treatment of cancer.
ELIZABETH
Queen Elizabeth II – the longest-reigning monarch in British history, known for her lifelong dedication to service.
MALALA
Named after Malala Yousafzai
– the youngest Nobel Prize winner, recognised for her courageous advocacy for girls’ education and human rights.
PANKHURST
In memory of Emmeline Pankhurst – a leading figure in the suffragette movement, who helped women secure the right to vote in the UK.
Each house includes one form from the X side and one from the Y side of the year group, helping to bring students together across the school community.
Throughout the year, students take part in a wide range of exciting house events and competitions, led by our House Captains. These include activities such as interhouse competitions, charity events and our much-loved Rosebery Day.
These opportunities allow students to build friendships across different year groups, develop teamwork skills and contribute to their house by earning merits. The year builds to our highly anticipated Sports Day in the summer term, where the winning house is proudly announced!
The Tutor Team
Your daughter’s form tutor is the main point of contact for both you and your daughter at Rosebery. They play a key role in supporting students each day and helping them settle into school life.
Form tutors are responsible for:
• Registering students each morning
• Providing daily pastoral care and support
• Delivering the Form Time programme
• Sharing important information and answering questions
Starting each day with their form tutor helps students feel prepared, organised and ready to learn. Tutors support students with key routines such as punctuality, uniform and organisation, as well as offering individual check-ins when needed.
All form tutors and tutor groups are supported by Head of Year 7, along with the Deputy Head of Year 7, ensuring every student feels well cared for and supported throughout their first year.
Form Time
Form Time is a very important part of the day for Year 7 students at Rosebery. As well as morning registration, it provides a valuable 20-minute opportunity to help students feel settled, organised and ready for the day ahead.
During this time, tutors focus on:
• Sharing key messages and important updates
• Checking uniform and equipment
• Supporting students with any questions or concerns
Form Time is not only about getting organised, it is also a rich part of the school experience. Across the week, students will:
• Attend assemblies
• Take part in a structured Literacy Development Programme based on termly novels
• Focus on physical and mental wellbeing (including Wellbeing Wednesdays)
• Get involved in charity planning and house activities
• Reflect on their achievements, behaviour and progress
• Explore the Distinctive Rosebery Education
This time helps to build routine, confidence and a strong sense of belonging within the Rosebery community.
Year 7 Champions
We understand how important it is for students to feel supported as they move from primary to secondary school, and to quickly feel part of the wider Rosebery community.
At the start of Year 7, each student is grouped with a Year 12 buddy. During the first few weeks, these buddies will join form time to help students settle in and feel confident with day-to-day routines, such as reading timetables, finding classrooms and answering any questions they may have.
Throughout the year, Year 12 buddies continue to offer support and guidance. They organise half-termly meet-ups, such as picnics or lunches, and encourage Year 7 students to get involved in house events, competitions and wider school life.
As part of our transition programme, Year 12 students also lead Peer Masterclasses on topics such as study skills, organisation and friendships. As experienced Rosebery students, they provide valuable advice and support to help younger students feel confident, capable and ready to succeed.
The Hive
Often the first-place students come to if they need help with anything, the Hive is where students are encouraged to go if they are feeling unwell, worried or anxious, or simply need support with something like finding their next lesson. Whatever the situation, a member of The Hive team will always be there to help. The Hive is thoughtfully organised into different areas so that students can receive the most appropriate support.
Student Reception
Ms Sally Makaoui is the first friendly face your daughter will see. She supports students as they arrive, whether they are returning from an appointment, feeling unwell or need help accessing support.
Wellbeing Space
We have a calm, quiet area where students can take a moment to reset if they are feeling overwhelmed, supported by a member of the team as they prepare to return to lessons.
Medical Support
Mrs Frances Keaveney, our Lead First Aider, supports students with medical needs and works with families to put Individual Healthcare Plans in place where needed.
Wellbeing & Pastoral Support
Students may also receive additional support through 1:1 or small group sessions, led by members of the team including myself, Mrs Amanda Wild and Mrs Linda Smith. Referrals are usually made via the Head of Year to ensure the right support is in place.
We are also supported by a wider team of specialists, including:
• A School Counsellor (available weekly)
• The Mental Health Support Team (MHST), who work with students experiencing low mood or anxiety
• Our School Nurse, who offers advice and support on health concerns
• And our much-loved therapy dog, Bella (right), who joins us weekly to help students feel calm and supported.

Music at Rosebery
At Rosebery, we aim to provide a high-quality music education that inspires a life-long love of music. We want every student to feel engaged, confident and excited about their learning in music from the very start of Year 7.
Music is a practical subject at the heart of our curriculum. Through performing, composing and listening, students develop their creativity, confidence and ability to express themselves. They are encouraged to take risks, share ideas and reflect thoughtfully on the music they hear and create.
We are passionate about music and about sharing this passion with our students. Through both lessons and our extra-curricular programme, we provide opportunities for every student to take part, develop their skills and experience success.
Whether students are new to music or already play an instrument, they are supported to grow and achieve. Music plays an important role in supporting students’ wider development. It helps them to build confidence, communication skills and strong relationships, while encouraging them to understand themselves and connect with others.

Personal Development & Citizenship (PDC)
Personal Development and Citizenship is a key part of life at Rosebery, supporting the holistic development of every student. In Year 7, lessons are delivered in a safe and supportive environment where students are encouraged to ask questions, share ideas and take part in discussions. The course is organised into six engaging units, each linked to important life skills and personal growth.
What Students Learn in Year 7
Autumn Term:
• Transition - Students explore the differences between primary and secondary school, helping them settle in with confidence. They also set SMART targets for the year ahead.
• Charity & Enterprise - Students work in small teams to raise money for charity, developing skills in teamwork, budgeting and marketing.
Spring Term:
• Growing Up & Puberty - Students learn about physical and emotional changes, including the importance of healthy lifestyles and managing emotions.
• Mental Health - A focus on understanding wellbeing, learning how to look after mental health and build resilience.
Summer Term:
• Careers & Aspirations - Students begin to explore future pathways, reflecting on their skills, interests and ambitions.
• Friendships, Families & Relationships - Students develop an understanding of healthy relationships, roles and responsibilities, and how to communicate and manage conflict positively.

Additional Guidance
Earrings and watches must be removed for PE lessons for safety reasons.In line with Surrey County Council health and safety guidance, earrings cannot be covered with tape and must be removed for PE.
For this reason, we recommend that students do not have their ears pierced during the school year, as newly pierced ears may not be able to be removed for lessons. Further details can be found on the school website here.
The PSA Pre-Loved Uniform Shop offers good-quality second-hand items, available to purchase on the school website, where further details and sale dates are shared in advance.
Meet the Tutor Evening
Meet the Tutor Evening is a pastoral event that takes place towards the end of the first half term in Year 7.
You will be invited to book a 5-minute online appointment with your daughter’s form tutor using School Cloud. This provides an opportunity to discuss how she has settled into secondary school and her experience of life at Rosebery so far.
Please note that this meeting focuses on wellbeing and transition. Academic progress will be discussed in more detail at the later Parents’ Evening.
Parents’ Evening
Parents’ Evening takes place once a year, usually during the Spring term for Year 7. You will be invited to book 5-minute appointments with each of your daughter’s subject teachers.
This is a valuable opportunity to:
• Receive an update on your daughter’s progress
• Discuss targets and next steps
• Celebrate her achievements
It is also a chance for parents and carers to ask any subject-specific questions and build a clear picture of how their daughter is developing across the curriculum.

• Sign up to clubs, activities and enrichment opportunities
Students are awarded points for excellent work and for demonstrating our Five Petals values, which sit at the heart of life at Rosebery. These points can be exchanged for rewards such as stationery, themed prizes and canteen queue passes. Points also contribute to House totals, helping to build a strong sense of community.
All students will be supported in learning how to use ePraise as they begin Year 7.
ParentPay
Rosebery is a cashless school, and all payments are made using ParentPay. With ParentPay, you can:
• Make secure online payments at any time
• Top up your daughter’s canteen account
• Pay for trips, visits and workshops
• Purchase subject-specific resources
Login details will be sent directly to you via email from ParentPay. Please keep an eye on your inbox (and junk folder) for this important information.
Accounts are initially set up for the Priority 1 parent. If you would like an additional parent or carer to have access, please contact us at adminhelpdesk@ roseberyschool.co.uk , and we will be happy to arrange this for you.
School Cloud
School Cloud is used to book online appointments for events such as:
• Meet the Tutor Evening
• Parents’ Evening
You will be able to select convenient appointment times and meet staff online, making it easy to stay connected with your daughter’s progress and wellbeing.
iPads
From September 2026, Rosebery School is introducing an iPad scheme so every student has their own device to support learning. It will help improve digital skills, organisation, and engagement, while still keeping reading, writing, and classroom discussion as key parts of lessons. The scheme is funded by parental contributions with more information available on our website.
Getting in Touch (September Onwards)
At Rosebery, we place great importance on strong communication and want you to feel fully part of our school community. We warmly welcome you to get in touch whenever needed, so that we can provide the very best support for your daughter.
Your daughter’s form tutor will be your main point of contact for pastoral matters. For subject-specific questions, you are also very welcome to contact individual class teachers. For more significant pastoral concerns, Head of Year 7 is available to support.
To make contacting us simple, we kindly ask that all queries are submitted via the ‘Contact Us’ form on the school website. Our admin team will ensure your message is directed to the most appropriate member of staff. This process applies to both pastoral and academic enquiries.

Frequently Asked Questions
What should I do if my daughter...
...is late for school?
If your daughter arrives after 8.30am, she should sign in with the Attendance Officer at the gate before going straight to Form Time. If she arrives after 8.50am, she should sign in at The Hive, where a member of staff will support her.
...is unwell and needs to stay at home?
Please contact the school attendance line to let us know the reason for her absence, including her full name and form. This helps us ensure she is safely accounted for and supported on her return.
...has a medical, dental or music appointment?
We kindly ask that evidence of the appointment is provided - this can be shared with her Form Tutor or sent directly to the Attendance Officer. Before leaving school, your daughter should sign out with The Hive so we know she has left safely.
...has a concern I would like to discuss?
We are always here to listen and support. Please use the ‘Contact Us’ form on the school website and indicate who you would like to speak to (for example, your daughter’s Form Tutor or Head of Year). Our admin team will ensure your message reaches the right person.
...needs any additional pastoral support?
If you feel your daughter would benefit from extra support, please contact the Head of Year, who will work closely with The Hive team to ensure the right support is put in place. For further guidance and information about support available both in and beyond school, you may also find it helpful to visit The Hive parent website.
