Ben Tracy Teaches Students How to Use Technology Safely By: Sofia Castro For the second time in the 2023-2024 school year, keynote speaker Ben Tracy came to speak about digital citizenship, online safety, and responsible social media use. Founder of the Safe Social Network, Tracy travels around the country to speak to many different schools about how to correctly handle the responsibility of modern technology. Tracy shared tips on how to stay safe online as a young person. He advised us on how to recognize child predators, unsafe situations, and appropriate use of tech. When asked how many schools he has spoken to, Tracy responded by saying, “Hundreds of schools. Probably about four or five hundred, most of them Catholic.” Only our middle schoolers got to witness this presentation, so we made sure to ask him if he could share some tips on how the younger kids can stay safe online or on social media. His response was, “It's best to wait. The minimum age to be on social media is 13.” All of Ben Tracy’s cautioning instructions will help with keeping young (and older) people safe on the internet.
