Rooster® are a technical clothing brand, manufacturing and selling sustainable watersports products. Growing from a background of dinghy sailing, Rooster was set up in 1999 by founder Steve Cockerill, to increase accessibility in being able to buy the right kit to enable all watersports enthusiasts perform on the water, at an affordable price. From then to now, Rooster continues to be passionate about inspiring, educating and facilitating access to the freedom of getting out in the elements, whilst being environmentally aware through every aspect of the business. Our very origin is innovation and challenging the systems, not just a brand; but practices delivered from determined effort, thorough research and passion for the outdoors.

E N V I R O N M E N TA L S T E P S

We all have a duty to protect the environment and develop our communities. As an outdoor brand, we must play a strong role in looking after the stadium in which we play, compete and live. We have come from sailing and that in itself is about making the most efficient use of the elements and enjoying nature without inhibiting it.

We design products to perform and last even at the very peak level of the sport. No stone is left unturned in the research and testing for new product development. We regularly update our existing products and reassess them for performance, longevity and their environmental footprint. Product care information is included on our website care page and on all product labelling. We take these steps to make sure that they are excellent value, that they last for a very long time and are among the best on the market.

Rooster are committed to ethical and sustainable business practices. We take account of our social, economic and environmental impact. We aim to be beneficial to the planet, our employees, customers and communities.

We have utilised recycled polyester in more and more of our products as a step towards our long term sustainability plan. We aim to reduce our impact on the environment by minimising our dependence on some traditional raw materials that can release harmful chemicals and emissions. Recycled polyester is made from consumer recycled plastic items such as single-use plastic bottles and other plastic packaging. We have partnered with Ocean Co - an initiative set up to collect ocean bound plastic bottles before they reach the ocean. Find out more on page 38.

SOCIAL STEPS

Our use of plastic is on the rapid decline, and our investigation into reducing our plastic use is ongoing. We are introducing recycled/lighter weight/smaller packing bags on the occasion where plastic packaging is still necessary, and have made big leaps into the reduction of our plastic use. Our Buoyancy Aids, Boots, Trapeze Harness and Harness back pad all come in reusable mesh bags with absolutely no plastic packaging. All boxes are reused in the warehouse as customer packing boxes, or recycled if unusable.

Rooster always aim to work closely with organisations close to our core values. We have been partnered with the SailGP team for the last couple of years on their Inspire programme, as part of our global initiative to make sure that the ability to enjoy and appreciate the water is available for those who don’t get the opportunities we often take for granted.

All our packaging is now in the process of dramatic change. We are reducing the amount of cardboard for our sailing boots and shoes, a thinner card with no lid and a reusable boot bag over the top.

We support a number of sailors at very different stages from grassroots to professionals, all ages and abilities, we aim to give our best support to those who need it the absolute most. We support watersports enthusiasts through our Ambassador and Rider programmes, reaching across all the corners of the world; Guatemala, South Africa, Poland, Argentina, Japan, Finland and many more. We aim to support athletes and encourage them on their journey to love the sport as much as we do!

Rooster Polypro™ is a long-term and thoroughly developed staple of thermal base layer comfort and protection. Constructed from a combination of Polypropylene (94%) and Elastane (6%). The brushed inner fabric gives it a thick, fleece-like, high quality texture which feels incredibly warm and soft next to your skin. Polypropylene is naturally hydrophobic, which means the fabric feels remarkably dry, even when wet. Wear it next to your skin underneath your neoprene suit, ski suit, drysuit, salopettes or whatever midlayer your sport requires. Wear it on the water or for winter running, cycling, kayaking, walking - anytime you need a thermal base layer.

We have used Limestone based neoprene, not only because it is better for the environment than traditional petroleum based neoprene, but also because it can cause less irritation to the skin due to the larger amount of air bubbles inside the rubber, and reduced toxic resources during production. The inner surface is brushed to give a thick thermal fleece layer against the skin. PolyproTM is naturally hydrophobic, which means it feels dry against the skin even when wet, making it a great base layer.

HOT STUFF - 0.5mm NEOPRENE Originally designed to work as a heat boosting base layer, this 0.5mm titanium lined neoprene is a clever material that works with your body to regulate your temperature. The titanium lining reflects heat from your body back onto your body, rather than letting it escape through the fabric. This fabric is featured on a range of our liners and base layers, under the ‘Hot’ name. It’s a great heat boost to wear under your other neoprene layers, gloves or socks/boots or on it’s own in the summer.

Our warmest collection based around a 4mm superstretch neoprene in combination with some other thicknesses on specific panels where more stretch or movement is required. We combine this with different linings and outer surface fabrics to give the best performance. Supertherm® products are Glued Blind Stitching (GBS) to increase warmth and minimise water ingress through the seams.

D U R AT E X TM Duratex TM is our premium quality high wearing protective fabric that we use on the seat and knee parts on most of our suits. On our standard products we laminate the DuratexTM with a neoprene mid layer and a nylon inner fabric. When used on the seat panel of all our suits, we always combine it with a plush inner fabric so that our Pro Hike pads can be attached on the inside.

SB1 INSHORE

M . I . S . R . A ( I M PA C T P R O T E C T I O N ) Mouldable Impact Shock Resistant Armour. This is the foam that we use in all of our impact wear, including the Harness and Knee Pads, amongst others. It has excellent shock absorption properties and minimal water absorption, allowing us to produce M.I.S.R.A in thin sheets whilst still maintaining its performance. There are two different densities of M.I.S.R.A that we use, one is a bit softer and more cushioning next to the body, whereas the other one is harder and can absorb and higher density making it perfect for absorbing high shock. In some of our products we use a combination of the 2 to give the best all round protection.

PRO RASH Pro rash uses mainly heavy duty Nylon Spandex (420gsm) to provide more compression and support on our technical garments. The fabric has got UV50+ protection, and we often combine it with neoprene/Duratex panels to make our products perform further.

RASH Our standard Nylon Spandex fabric used on our rash vests. This fabric has a UV50+ rating to ensure maximum protection from UV rays.

AQUAFLEECE® Where it all began! The Rooster Aquafleece® is one of our best sellers. The fabric is PU (polyurethane) coated fleece that is fully waterproof, durable and flexible, whilst the brushed fleece inner surface makes it super comfortable. We produce our Aquafleece® fabric in 2 different weights (over several colours): 1. ‘PRO’ - heavier weight for added warmth in cold conditions. We always tape the seams on our ‘Pro’ Aquafleece® products to ensure complete waterproof protection. 2. ‘CLASSIC’ - a slightly lighter weight Aquafleece® fabric. We use this on our classic and pro lite Aquafleece® products, and leave the seams untaped for increased breathability and lower weight for warmer conditions.

The SB1 inshore range utilises a mid-lightweight 3-layer laminate fabric with integrated stretch capabilities, designed to accommodate dynamic movements inherent to active sportsboat activities. Engineered active-fit and purposeful functionality, the fabric provides a comfortable, second-skin feel without hindering performance during tasks. With a waterproof rating of 15k and breathability of 10k, it ensures reliable protection and comfort across diverse conditions. In addition to the main body fabric, the SB1 Inshore Jacket and Hifits feature Cordura® reinforcements on select panels, strengthening wear resistance and overall durability. Moreover, all seams are fully taped, ensuring the garments remain entirely waterproof.

The fabric is a matrix comprising of a waterproof barrier layer at the outer surface, PU mid layer, and a Moisturewicking, durable inside print. This inside print is known as the 1/2 layer, hence the fabric name 2.5 Layer. The inside print (or 1/2 layer) works cleverly to separate the PU mid layer from your body, allowing ventilation which draws moisture away to keep you feeling dry, whilst also protecting the PU layer from any unnecessary dirt.
