We’ve got some news! Thanks to a generous donation of 100 litres of Dulux Weathershield paint, our much-loved community hall is about to receive a long‑overdue makeover. After weathering cyclones, storms, and years of community use, the hall is ready for a fresh start — and we’re excited to bring it back to life. This project will be a community effort, led by our committee and volunteers who want to help restore our community asset and keep it running for years to come. If you enjoy painting, don’t mind a roller, or simply want to be part of something positive, we’d love to have you involved. Many hands will make light work, and every contribution helps. We’ll share dates and details soon, but we’re picturing a big weekend working bee, with drinks and food provided. For now, a huge thank you to Dulux for supporting our rural community and helping us brighten the place where Rollingstone gathers, celebrates, and recovers — and a big thanks to our committee for making this happen.

It’s also been a busy year behind the scenes. Our management committee has been hard at work strengthening the foundations of the Neighbourhood Centre. Together, we’ve reviewed and refreshed our full suite of policies to ensure we remain compliant, safe, quality‑focused, and accessible for everyone who walks through our doors. We’ve also completed a series of workshops to design a new strategic plan — a roadmap for the future of the Centre. I am excited to be able to share it at our upcoming AGM. The Rollingstone Neighbourhood Centre is guided by a skills‑based management committee responsible for governance and financial oversight. If you’re curious about the work of the committee or the centre, or you’re considering getting involved, the AGM is the perfect place to learn more. And if you have experience in governance, policy, finance, or human resources — and can spare a few hours each month — you might like to nominate for the committee. About ADA Australia ADA Australia is an independent, not-for-profit organisation providing information, advocacy and support to older people, people with disability, and their families and carers. Through the Care Finder program, ADA Australia helps people who may find it difficult to navigate aged care services on their own, connecting them with supports and assisting them to access the care and services they need. Rollingstone and District Men’s Shed Inc. Community Activity A Bunnings sausage sizzle was held on Saturday, 8th August, at Northshore Bunnings. We had another successful day. Thank you to all the community members who came along and supported the Men’s Shed. A big thank you to our volunteers, Mr Bruce, Macka, Dan, Pierre and Mick. A special thank you to the wives of our members, Caitlin and Rhonda, who came along and gave us a huge helping hand. Raffles We held our raffle at Mystic Sands Sports & Wellness on Friday, 21st August. Thank you again to everyone in the community who came down and supported us. We had three meat trays to be won: a beef tray, a chicken tray and a pork tray. Congratulations to all the winners! Shed Construction All the community support we receive through our raffles and Bunnings sausage sizzles is helping us inch closer to getting our shed up and running.

All part of their “Service Learning Journey” of supporting and assisting others. Always a pleasure to be part of their morning – especially when the students enthusiastically join Lion John for a hearty “Lions Roar” before they start their days activities. President Delwyn also had the privilege of inducting School Principal Andrew as a new member of the Lions club • Provided catering support to the Bluewater School

Fair – where we sold out of our delicious Rib Fillet Steakburgers and Cheesy Hot Dogs. As a result Lions have donated $800 to the School to supported disadvantaged students attendance at their School Camp next year!

Sports and Wellness, with funds raised earmarked to support our annual Community Christmas Carols event later in the year. A delight also for President Delwyn to welcome our newest Lions club member Di McKenzie into our club, something Di has always wanted to do as she attended and supported many activities growing up with her grandfather who was a long-time member of the Goondiwindi Lions club. Rollingstone RSL Vietnam Veterans Day | 60 Years Since Long Tan What a special morning for our community as we came together to commemorate Vietnam Veterans Day and the 60th anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan. A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for morning service, and especially to those who took the time to lay a wreath in remembrance. Whether in their own name or on behalf of a loved one, organisation or someone unable to be with us. Every wreath represents a story, a sacrifice and a reason to remember. A massive thank you to 3rd Combat Service Support Battalion (3CSSB) for their continued support and for providing our Catafalque Party. The partnership we have built with 3CSSB is something we are incredibly grateful for, and it was wonderful to have them standing alongside us once again. We also want to recognise the incredible community spirit that goes into making these days possible. To everyone who helped set up, prepare, organise and pack down, thank you. So much of the work happens quietly behind the scenes, and it certainly doesn’t go unnoticed. Finally, a very special thank you to the Rollingstone Hotel for providing refreshments and a place for our veterans, families and community members to gather

afterwards, share stories, reminisce and enjoy the camaraderie that makes these occasions so meaningful. Days like this are a reminder that remembrance is not just about looking back It is about coming together, supporting one another and ensuring the stories of those who served continue to be heard. Lest we forget. Now don’t forget Tropical Friday at Fisherman’s Landing every Friday evening from 17:00. Prizes are $100 cash, fruit box from the Rolly Ranch, fish and chips voucher from Fisherman’s Landing We have started raffles at the Rollingstone Hotel every fortnight with a $100 meat tray, second and third prizes to be added on the day, so come along and try your luck. Toomulla Beach News The Division 1 by-election may be a nuisance to many, but it does open the way for the possibility of better representation for the Northern Beaches. The past few years have revealed how important it is to have an active, interested member of the Townsville City Council and we look forward to hearing from each of the candidates as to their vision for our area. It is important that we look past the publicity generated by each candidate and see how effective they can be in representing us. We need someone who is passionate about this area rather than someone who just wants a well-paid job. With so many committee members away during August, most community association, coastcare, and fishing club activities were put on hold. One activity, however, was a beach get-together organised by Alisha in late August (after this entry was written). Congratulations Alisha for taking the initiative to organise this. Alisha and Len were involved in trying to coordinate with Toomulla Coastcare members a much-hyped activity organised by

There is some good news for the Rollingstone and Balgal Beach communities this month, with investment in both our local SES and the Balgal Beach boat ramp.

Townsville-based Hike and Explore to clean up the beach in Toomulla. After many attempts, contact was finally made with the group and arrangements to meet at the Toomulla Community Shelter were made. Locals arrived at the designated time and waited for nearly an hour before giving up. A few members of the small clean-up group were later seen on the beach with one telling a resident that the beach was really clean and probably didn’t need the group to do anything. It later emerged that Hike and Explore is involved with a candidate for the Division 1 election after posts were displayed with the candidate on the beach. The whole incident has left a poor taste with many residents and coastcare members. There is still no date set for the next 3-monthly community meeting with Member for Hinchinbrook, Wayde Chiesa and a representative of the Townsville City Council. These meetings are very important for Toomulla so it is hoped a meeting can be organised quickly after the Division 1 election. The next activity of Toomulla Coastcare will be on September 12 so watch for details on social media and the notice board.

The Rollingstone SES Group will receive $27,782 for facility upgrades through the 2026–27 Queensland SES Support Grant Program.

Congratulations to the school, P&C, volunteers and everyone involved. Events like these are a great reminder of the community spirit we have across this part of the Hinchinbrook electorate.

Living in North Queensland, we know just how important our SES volunteers are when severe weather and disasters hit. They give their time to help our communities when we need them most, and I am pleased we can support the Rollingstone SES with better facilities to continue their important work.

There has also been positive news for our regional health workforce. Since November 2024, 513 additional frontline health workers have joined the Townsville Hospital and Health Service, helping strengthen the health services North Queenslanders rely on closer to home.

I am also pleased to confirm that the Crisafulli Government is repairing the Balgal Beach boat ramp following damage caused by flooding in 2025.

Community safety also remains one of the biggest issues people raise with me.

The works will replace damaged concrete planks, reconstruct and strengthen the lower section of the ramp and provide greater protection against future highflow events.

The Crisafulli Government is progressing the next phase of Adult Crime, Adult Time, including proposed Breach Bail, Go to Jail laws targeting serious repeat youth offenders who commit an Adult Crime, Adult Time offence while already on bail.

The boat ramp is an important facility for locals, visitors and our boating community, and I know the partial closure has caused some inconvenience.

Stronger bail laws are something I have continued to advocate for, and I will keep working to ensure victims and community safety come first.

Construction is scheduled from mid-August through to October, weather and site conditions permitting, and will restore full access while improving the ramp’s safety and long-term resilience.

Whether it is delivering local infrastructure, supporting our SES volunteers, strengthening health services or making our communities safer, I will continue working to make sure the priorities of Rollingstone, Balgal Beach and our surrounding communities have a strong voice in Brisbane.

Fisherman’s Landing Fishing and Social Club Inc. Welcome to this month’s edition of the Rolly Rag. Fishing Report A few members have been active over the month with some nice catches recorded. New members Joey and Cathy Mills weighed in with a few good fish. Welcome to the club Joey and Cathy, and wish you more success with your fishing in the future. The following members also weighed fish in:• Len Clark – my dinner tonight (at the time of writing)

Flavour of the month with fish caught were Coral Trout, Red Emperor, Fingermark, Cod, Spanish Mackerel, Tuna, Pink Long, Red Throat Emperor, to name a few of them. A good month for the club members. Sounds like this scribe better teach his boat how to swim again and get out there too.

Mick and Chris, Richard and Moira, Glen and Sally, Graham and Therese packed their vans up and headed off. We left at various times, but three of us caught up with each other, Glen and Sally catching up with us at Boulia. A great weekend, races was a ton of fun, pretty cold but a big bonfire at our campsite at night fixed that up, and the odd nip of rum to warm the insides. On the Saturday we all wore our fishing club shirts, caps with a fish on – stood out well, and everyone there just simply referred to us as ‘the fishing club’. Following the camel races, after five days we all headed off in different directions – Mick and Chris are lost somewhere in the middle of WA, Richard and Moira and Glen and Sally meandered back towards Balgal, Graham and Therese meandered too but back via Winton, Mary Kathleen, the gulf, tablelands, Mission Beach and then home. Monthly BBQ No monthly BBQ was held this month due to the number of people who were away. Next monthly BBQ is scheduled for Sunday 28th September at the Lions Den. Look forward to seeing as many members as possible there on the day. Raffles

Currently the club is also involved in the Halifax Bay Inter Club Fishing Challenge with Toomulla Fishing Club – these contributions should stand in good stead for us.

The fishing club holds a seafood tray raffle the 4th Friday of every month. It was a great night and result was excellent – thank you to all the patrons of Mystic Sands Sports and Wellness for their support.

Markets

Come on down for a great night at Mystic Sands Sports and Wellness on the 4th Friday night of the month and win a lovely seafood tray. They are well worth the win!

Latest markets was held Saturday 1 August. A good and busy market, with over 15 stallholders in attendance, and plenty of customers looking to buy. The stallholders were very happy with the day. Sally was back on deck organising things after her trip away with a few other members – talk about this shortly. Sally and hubby Glen also organised Ford enthusiasts to come out with their cars to display. It was a great attraction. Thank you to the Ford enthusiasts for bringing the cars out to show, in conjunction with the markets. It made for a very good day all round. For our next markets, they have organised Holden enthusiasts to come out and attend – that also should make for a great market display. The club also raffled the $100 seafood voucher from Lounds Seafoods – won by one of our stallholders, Christine Wall. Hope you enjoyed Christine. If there are any potential stallholders interested in a site for next or subsequent markets, please ring Sally on 0407 511 947 who will look after you.

Membership New members are still rolling in and fresh blood is always welcome. For anyone interested, please contact the club on details below, if you’re in for a bit of fishing and a fun time. Doesn’t matter if you don’t have a boat, there’d always be someone to hitch a ride with. We are a fishing and social club – so you don’t have to be a fisherman. Rollingstone SES – Keeping Prepared and Moving Forward Hello everyone! It’s been a little while since our last update, but that certainly doesn’t mean we’ve been sitting still! Our Rollingstone SES team has continued to train together and alongside other SES teams in our area, building our skills, confidence and teamwork so we are ready to respond when our community needs us. We’ve recently travelled to Bluewater and Townsville for training, providing great opportunities to learn, share knowledge and strengthen the connections between our local teams. Back home, we have also been busy finishing renovations at our SES headquarters, and we’re very excited to see our sheds looking better and more functional. A big thank you to everyone who has contributed their time and effort to getting the work completed. With the wet season approaching before we know it, our focus is now firmly on being prepared. Training, equipment, teamwork and community preparedness all play an important part in making sure we are ready for whatever the season may bring. Help Us Roll Towards Our New Roller Door Opener! We are currently collecting old and unwanted batteries as part of a fundraiser towards a new roller door opener for our SES shed. If you have old batteries that you no longer need, please let us know — we would be more than happy to collect them from you! Every battery helps us get a little closer to our goal. Staff Support Beyond Expectations Students at Gilroy Santa Maria College (GSMC) are met with a dedicated and experienced staff group, to provide an education that goes beyond. Led by College Principal, Mrs Johanna Smith, the staff group provides and even mix of male and female teaching staff, many who are past students returning to the College to nurture future generations. Rollingstone families considering GSMC in 2027, can be rest assured that their child will continue their schooling in an environment with friendly familiar faces and small class sizes. Travel options are also available with school buses running from Mutarnee each day. Whether a student shines in the academic or extracurricular space, they will be guided and encouraged by enthusiastic staff. Support is not limited to the classroom, with many staff offering lunch time and after school academic support, so students can achieve beyond their own expectations. For students seeking an extensive extra-curricular experience, GSMC is home to staff an coaches who have fulfilled these roles on a national level and bring expertise to local students. Adding to the Catholic school experience at GSMC, is the extensive Pastoral Care delivered through both planned strategies and members of the College. This may be experienced in daily interactions with staff, at Pastoral assemblies and on special school events such as the College Fun Run. Pastoral Care support can take a formal approach with the College Guidance Counsellors Mrs Kate Stringini and Mr Jonny Pearce catering to the needs of GSMC students. To experience an education that goes beyond, families can express their interest in enrolling for 2027 via the GSMC website, or by phoning the College office on 4776 2888. The next round of Enrolment Interviews will be held at the College from Wednesday 2 September.

Rollingstone State School A couple of weeks ago, the Rolly athletics team headed to Townsville to compete in the ‘F’ Schools Athletics Competition. Our students took on the long jump, high jump, 100m, 200m, 800m, shot put and relays, giving it their all and showing plenty of determination and great sportsmanship along the way. We even had a few school records broken! By the end of the day, the team had done something pretty special; we took home all four trophies! Champion Girls, Champion Boys, Aggregate and Average School. It is the first time in many years that Rolly has brought home the full set of ‘F’ Schools trophies. What a fantastic effort from our champion team! A big congratulations to Daine, Raf and Rocky, who were selected to trial for NQ. Well done, Rolly! Rolly students have been practicing their cricket game for the Townsville Big Bash comp in a couple of weeks. Although only Year 5/6 compete, the whole school learns the skills.

RNC Community Bus Passenger Guidelines Our community bus is one of the most important services we offer in Rollingstone. It keeps people connected, helps households manage the rising cost of living, and makes it easier for locals to get to appointments, shopping, and community events. It’s been fantastic to see the service so well used — every full bus is a sign of a strong, connected community. To keep the bus safe, comfortable, and accessible for everyone, we ask all passengers to follow a few simple guidelines: • Keep aisles clear — Bags, parcels, walkers and personal items must not block the walkway at any time. • Limit groceries and parcels — Space is shared, so please only bring what can fit safely under your seat or in the designated storage areas. • Secure your items — Loose bags can shift during travel. Please make sure everything is tucked away before the bus departs. • Be mindful of others — Seats are for passengers first.
