Neighbourhood Centres across Queensland share a simple purpose: to strengthen the wellbeing, connection and resilience of the communities they serve. The Neighbourhood Centres Initiative explains this through three key activity areas linking people with support, creating social connection and inclusion, and integrating local community action. At Rollingstone Neighbourhood Centre, these three pillars guide everything we do.
A big part of our work is helping people find the right support at the right time, whether that’s formal services or informal community help. Just as important is creating opportunities for people to connect the everyday activities, groups and gatherings that help neighbours feel included, valued and part of something bigger.
The third activity area, integrating local community action, sits at the heart of community development. It means bringing people together, listening to what matters to them, and supporting them to take action on their own ideas. Our role isn’t to do things for the community, but to walk alongside people as they shape
the future of Rollingstone.
A great example is our newly launched Friday Night Family Night. Local families told us they wanted casual, family-friendly activities in the evenings a simple way to come together at the end of the week. We brought people into the same room, worked through what was needed, and supported them to design something that is led by community and run by community. It’s exactly what community development looks like: neighbours identifying a need, taking ownership, and creating something positive for everyone. The first night was a wonderful success, and we can’t wait to see what future Fridays bring.
Another initiative is our Quarterly Rollingstone Community Groups Networking Meeting, which brings local groups together to share ideas, plan collectively and take action. Through these meetings, we’ve identified a range of potential priorities from flood mitigation and community infrastructure like toilet blocks and youth facilities, to roads and bus shelters. But this work can’t, and shouldn’t, belong to the networking group alone. It’s important that we support action that the community itself identifies as priorities. It’s not driven by us it’s driven by you. So if you have ideas, suggestions or concerns, come along to our meetings or drop in for a chat. Neighbourhood Centres thrive when communities lead the way.

Shed Construction
The fantastic support we receive through our raffles and Bunnings sausage sizzles is helping us move closer to getting our Men's Shed built and operational. We are continuing to apply for grants and seek additional funding to help make this project a reality.

Hello Rollingstone and neighbouring communities, with July being a wonderful time of year for those who call North Queensland home. For those visiting our area, welcome, and hope you enjoy your stay here in our little part of paradise!
Our month began with our display at the Balgal Beach Markets with a good turnout of locals and visitors. Great to see the support for the Kids Classic Fishing Carnival hosted by the Fishermans Landing Fishing and Social Club, and pleased that we were able to be one of the Sponsors of this event through funds raised at one of our recent Friday Night Raffles at Mystic Sands Sports Wellness.
Thank you to those who support our raffles on the 2nd Friday of each month as this in turn helps us to provide assistance and support to others in the community. Speaking of which our “Christmas in July” raffles of Leg Hams and Lions Christmas Cakes were very well received!
Great to see the School Kids enjoying their Sports Day on Friday 17th July, and very pleased that we were again able to make our Lions Kitchen available to the School P and C who provided yummy food for the event.
One of the events we have supported since the Chartering of our Lions Club is the annual Townsville to Cairns Bike Ride which raises funds for the Children’s Cancer Institute. Held on Thursday 23rd July we again supplied Super Doopers with the support of the School Children to the riders at the Truck Pads just north of Rollingstone, plus provided our legendary Steak Burgers for their lunch on the lawns of the Frosty Mango.
Our Bunning BBQ on Sunday 26th July rounded out our major activities this month. Thank you to our Captains Simon and Melonie who were very capably supported by Lisa, Eric, Cheryl, Cathy and Tracey!

Free Community Wi-Fi is Here!
We’re excited to share that Community Wi-Fi powered by NBN Sky Muster® has now been installed at the Rollingstone Hall bringing reliable, high‑speed satellite broadband to our community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
This equipment was provided through the STAND (Strengthening Telecommunications Against Natural Disasters) program and funded by the Australian Government to help communities stay connected when it matters most.
There’s an access point inside the hall and outside, so you can connect easily whether you’re attending an event or nearby in the park. In a disaster, the system can support up to 500 users at once and includes an uninterrupted power supply, keeping the Wi‑Fi running even during a power outage.
You’ll see new signs inside and outside the hall with simple instructions on how to connect. Our regular Starlink Wi‑Fi remains available in the hall and office giving everyone more options to stay online and access essential communications when needed.
Services Australia Visit:
The Australian Government Mobile Service Centre will be visiting Rollingstone on Friday 21st August. The bus will be parked at the Neighbourhood Centre Carpark from 9am - 2pm.
Australian Government Mobile Service Centres travel to rural and regional communities to provide community members with information and access to government services. They provide personalised faceto-face servicing to individuals and families who may not have easy access to a Services Australia office. Staff from Services Australia travel with the Mobile Service Centres and can help the community with Centrelink and Medicare payments and services. Information about Department of Veterans’ Affairs programs and support services for veterans and their families is also available.
Rollingstone State School
If you've lived around Rollingstone long enough, you'll know there are a few sure signs that the school athletics carnival is just around the corner. The line marker is dusted off, the long jump pit gets a fresh dig over, the high jump mats mysteriously disappear from school and reappear at Pace Park, and before most people have had their first cup of tea, teachers are standing in the freezing morning air hosing down a long jump pit while wondering whose bright idea winter carnivals were!
Despite the early start, everything was ready to go... almost.
As fate would have it, the bus carrying most of our competitors decided this was the perfect day to have a little rest. Fortunately, it didn't take long for our wonderful school community to spring into action. Before you knew it, parents had become taxi drivers, cars were filling up, and everyone made it to Pace Park.
We were thrilled to welcome our friends from Mutarnee State School. Having another school join us always adds a little extra excitement and plenty of friendly competition.
The sea of red and blue soon took over the oval as students proudly wore their house colours ; red for the Crows and blue for the Cranes. After the Crows had pinched the cross country title earlier this term by the slimmest of margins, just one point, there was plenty of chatter about who would take home athletics bragging rights.
The confidence award for the day, however, belonged to our fearless Year 2 students. For days beforehand they had been bragging and big noting themselves on how good they were at tug-of-war. Their prediction? That they were going to absolutely flatten Chris and his fellow officers.
Well... reality had other ideas. With plenty of determination, a lot of yelling and more enthusiasm than technique, our young challengers gave it everything they had. Chris and Ben in the police team barely moved an inch, calmly reminding everyone that experience, teamwork and perhaps a few extra kilograms still have their advantages. The Year 2s may not have claimed victory, but they certainly won plenty of laughs from the crowd.
All day long, the chants echoed around Pace Park. Some students flew around the track in the 100 and 200 metre sprints, making it look almost effortless. Others found every metre a challenge, but what stood out most wasn't who crossed the line first, it was teammates cheering every runner home. Those loud chants carried more than a few tired legs across the finish line.
Away from the track, students tested themselves in the long jump, high jump and shot put, while Mr Z and Ms Tyler kept everyone entertained with the alwayspopular novelty events.
No country sports carnival would be complete without good food, and our incredible P&C and volunteers certainly delivered. The pulled pork and coleslaw rolls disappeared almost as quickly as they were made. It's
probably fair to say they were as fiercely contested as some of the events themselves, and this teacher happily declares them one of the highlights of the day! As the final points were counted, it was the Crows who once again claimed the championship trophy, making it two wins from two major carnivals this year.
Congratulations to every student who competed, encouraged a teammate, tried something new or simply refused to give up. That's what school sport is about.
A heartfelt thank you goes to our staff, volunteers, P&C, The Rollingstone Lions Club, families and supporters who helped make the day run so smoothly. Community events like these simply don't happen without people willing to lend a hand, and we are incredibly grateful.
It was fantastic to have Mutarnee State School join us, and we hope to do it all again next year.

For the past 3 years, the Toomulla Beach Community Association (TBCA) has celebrated Christmas in July rather than in December. The rationale for the change in date was twofold: to take advantage of the glorious winter weather and to avoid the myriad of clashes with other end of year events and the early departure of holidaymakers.
This community celebration has grown each year with close to 90 people in attendance last month. The feedback on social media has been very positive and the committee is already planning for a bigger and better event in 2027. Some of the highlights included the children’s party, with a visit from Saint Nic (aka our very own Mayor of Townsville, Nick Dametto).
The committee and residents (especially the children) are very appreciative of the time and support Mayor Dametto continues to provide for our community. Thanks also to Wayde Chiesa for your donation towards children’s gifts.
The food seemed to satisfy all and remains pretty good value for money. From prawns, to potato bake, ham and pavlova and Alisha’s sensational trifle that tasted as good as it looked! The Christmas raffle was a huge success with 10 fabulous prizes, ultimately raising over $900 for our association.
A huge thanks to our generous sponsors (see below) and the efforts of Brett P and Peggy for approaching local businesses. The Pace family generously donated some fruit hampers and the Downey family provided the delicious prawns. The evening concluded with Christmas Trivia around the fire which proved to be a relaxing and entertaining way to wrap up the night. A massive thanks to members of the TBCA for their efforts in putting together a wonderful evening.
Thanks to all those who purchased State of Origin Footy Doubles and watched the games on the big screen at the Esplanade. We thank Brett, Kaylene and Callum for providing the big screen and an inviting and inclusive atmosphere (even Blues supporters were made welcome). Congrats to Ashley Klein and his Blues, and better luck next year Qld!
Lucky numbers will return in September and November.
Unfortunately, the scheduled Community Breakfast on 20th June had to be cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. An alternate date could not be found as the majority of the committee will be absent for much of July and August. The next breakfast and opportunity to meet with the member for Hinchinbrook, Wayde Chiesa, and perhaps a new Councillor in September. Once we have confirmed the date, it will be advertised on social media and our notice board.

Pace Farming Celebrates 90 Years
On the evening Saturday 18 July 2026, family, friends and members of the local community gathered to celebrate 90 years of the Pace family farming in the Rollingstone district.
The story began in 1936, when Michael (Mick) Pace purchased a 300-acre farm at the foot of Mount Halifax after immigrating from Malta. Alongside his wife Annie, he laid the foundations for what would become four generations of family farming.
Mick's sons, Roy, Colin and John, dedicated their working lives to expanding the business, purchasing additional farms and diversifying across sugarcane, pineapples, pumpkins, watermelons and cattle as well as other crops. In 1987, the third generation Raymond, Stephen, Robert and Allan formed Pace Farming Pty Ltd and continued to grow the business while adapting to the changing agricultural industry. Today, members of the fourth generation are proudly continuing that legacy.
The anniversary celebration welcomed more than 250 guests, including family, former employees, suppliers, customers and friends. The evening provided an opportunity to reflect on the family's history and express thanks to the many people who have been part of the journey. It was also a time to remember
family members no longer with us and celebrate the friendships and community support that have helped shape the past 90 years.

Michael Pugh – Division 1 Candidate
Hello everyone! I'm Michael Pugh, and I'm excited to be standing as your candidate for Division 1 and sharing a little about who I am and why I'm passionate about our community and Division 1.
As a proud father and long term Townsville local since 1985, I've spent more than a decade actively volunteering, advocating for our community, and working alongside residents across Division 1. Through my work with Townsville Hike and Explore, local community groups, and countless volunteer initiatives, I've had the privilege of meeting thousands of people and gaining a genuine understanding of the issues that matter most to our communities.
Division 1 is one of the most diverse areas in our region, stretching from our growing rural communities to our beautiful northern beaches, national parks, and lifestyle areas. Every community has its own unique identity and challenges, and I believe every resident deserves to have their voice heard.
If elected, my commitment is simple: I will be accessible, accountable, and focused on delivering practical outcomes. I believe local government works best when councillors listen first, communicate openly,
and advocate strongly for the communities they represent.
Over the coming weeks in the lead up to the by election, I'll be travelling throughout Division 1, attending community events, visiting local businesses, and hosting roadside pop ups to hear directly from residents. I'd love the opportunity to meet you, hear your ideas, and discuss how we can work together to build an even stronger Division 1.

It was a privilege to join the Pace family as they celebrated 90 years of farming. Reaching such a milestone is an incredible achievement and a testament to generations of hard work and dedication. Family farming has played such an important role in shaping our region, and it was a privilege to celebrate this remarkable legacy with the Pace family and the wider community.
Over the past month, we've continued getting on with delivering the commitments we made to our communities while staying connected with the people who make our region such a great place to live.
The recent Queensland Budget was an important step in delivering a Fresh Start for Queenslanders, with investment in projects that will make a real difference across our region. One of the biggest wins is the $50 million Gairloch to Ripple Creek upgrade on the Bruce Highway between Ingham and Innisfail, delivered in partnership with the Federal Government. The project will reconstruct sections of the highway, widen the road, replace drainage culverts, and remove the notorious Sbend, helping to reduce flood-related closures and keep our communities connected during the wet season.
I'm also pleased to see funding to restore sections of our coastline damaged by this year's tropical low, including rehabilitation works at Toolakea Beach. These projects will help strengthen our coastline, support local tourism, and improve resilience for the future, jointly funded by the Albanese and Crisafulli Governments under the DRFA.
Another initiative I'm pleased to see continue is the Play On! sports voucher program. Eligible children aged 5 to 17 can apply for a $200 voucher to help cover sports registration fees, making it easier for more young Queenslanders to get involved in local sport. The next round opens on 27 July, and I encourage eligible families to take advantage of the program.
Applications are now open for the latest round of the Crisafulli Government's Multicultural Connect Grants, which support community organisations in building or upgrading facilities that bring people together. If your organisation has a project in mind, I encourage you to look into the program and see if it's eligible.
Over the past few weeks, I also had the opportunity to hold mobile offices in Rollingstone, Bluewater and Deeragun. Thank you to everyone who stopped by for a chat. Hearing directly from local residents is one of the most valuable parts of this role and helps ensure I'm taking your priorities with me to Brisbane.
I'm looking forward to attending more community events across the Rollingstone area in the months ahead. Whether it's celebrating local milestones, supporting community organisations, or simply catching up over a coffee, these opportunities are an important part of staying connected with our community.
I'll continue getting out across the electorate, meeting with local residents, businesses and community groups, and ensuring our region's priorities are heard in Brisbane.
Fisherman’s Landing Fishing and Social Club

Kid’s Fishing Classic
Kid’s Fishing Classic was held Saturday 4th July and what an epic event it was. It was a magnificent dry season day, and we had over 200 kids involved in the day.
Our sponsors made sure that 150 of those received goodie bags. Unfortunately, we underestimated the turn out, so we apologise for any that missed out. But, you know, the early bird gets the fish. So next year we will try to cater for more participants.
They say winners are grinners but there were smiles all round from kids to adults alike.
With the generous support from our sponsors, we provided a free sausage sizzle and frozen treats at the conclusion of the day.

Markets
The Balgal Beach Markets were held at the same time as the Kids Fishing Classic, so it was a massive weekend for our volunteers and committee members who were up at the crack of dawn to open the market space down and the Landing and set up for the Kids Classic.
It was a good turnout, with around 13 stallholders, and plenty of people looking to buy.
Note, if there are any potential stallholders interested in a site for future markets, please ring Sally on 0407 511 947 who will look after you.
Markets are held on the first Saturday of the month from May to December.
Monthly BBQ
Our July Monthly BBQ at the Lions Den was cancelled due to several of the committee members taking time out to do a bit of travelling. This leaves us a little short handed to organise the evening and volunteers to conduct the BBQ.
Stay tuned for the next BBQ date. Don’t forget new members are always welcome.
Raffles
The fishing club holds a Seafood Tray Raffle the 4th Friday of every month – our next raffle will be 24th July. Come on down for a great night at Mystic Sands Sports and Wellness and win a mega seafood tray. They are well worth the win!

While it is a fishing club, we also have a great social side to the club. Social events include BBQ at the Lion’s Den, raffles at Mystic Sands Sports and Wellness once a month. Weekend trips away are also popular and you don’t need to have a boat or even be keen on fishing to join in.

RNC Community Bus Passenger Guidelines
Our community bus is one of the most important services we offer in Rollingstone. It keeps people connected, helps households manage the rising cost of living, and makes it easier for locals to get to appointments, shopping, and community events. It’s been fantastic to see the service so well used every full bus is a sign of a strong, connected community.
To keep the bus safe, comfortable, and accessible for everyone, we ask all passengers to follow a few simple guidelines:
• Keep aisles clear Bags, parcels, walkers and personal items must not block the walkway at any time.
• Limit groceries and parcels Space is shared, so please only bring what can fit safely under your seat or in the designated storage areas
• Secure your items Loose bags can shift during travel. Please make sure everything is tucked away before the bus departs.
• Be mindful of others Seats are for passengers first. Larger items may need to be left at home or transported another way.
• Let us know if you have a walker or mobility aid –we may need to adjust passenger numbers accordingly.
• Please be ready at the agreed pick up time – and let us know if you need to cancel.
• Follow the driver’s instructions Our drivers are there to keep everyone safe and ensure the trip runs smoothly.
• Please refrain from eating or drinking on the busand remove your rubbish.
• Please treat our volunteer driver and other passengers kindly
