Dear Neighbor: After hearing from over 800 City residents, visiting community organizations, and performing community engagement meetings to solicit input on resident priorities and needs, the Rohnert Park City Council placed Measure K, the Rohnert Park Financial Viability, Community Health/Safety Measure, on the November Municipal Election Ballot. Over the last year, the City of Rohnert Park has heard from residents about their priorities. The community identified priorities such as: Maintaining 911 Emergency Response and Fire Protection services Preventing cuts to public safety officers patrolling neighborhood streets Protecting local drinking water sources Providing safe places for kids to play Keeping public areas clean and safe If enacted by Rohnert Park voters, Measure K would enact a half-cent local sales tax, providing $5.5 million annually for local needs that address community priorities identified over a year-long community engagement effort.

Measure K is not a tax on homes or real property, and is not applied to rent, utilities, food purchased as groceries, or prescription medicine. Measure K would also be paid by the thousands of out-of-towners who visit Rohnert Park for the police, fire, and other services they use when they visit our City. 2026 CITY COUNCIL ELECTION UPDATE In case you missed it, City Clerk and Elections Official Sylvia Lopez Cuevas announced at the August 11, 2026, City Council meeting that the nomination period for the November 3, 2026, General Municipal Election has officially closed. Rohnert Park voters in Districts 2 and 5 will each elect one City Councilmember to serve a four-year term. There are six qualified candidates running in this election. The names and contact information for the qualified candidates are available at https://www.rpcity.ca.gov/735/Candidate-Resources Although the regular nomination period has closed, eligible candidates may still run as write-in candidates during the write-in nomination period, which is September 7 through October 20, 2026. Write-in candidates must meet the eligibility requirements and complete the required filing paperwork with the City Clerk's Office. Write-in candidates' names will not appear on the printed ballot or in the Voter Information Guide. Instead, voters may write the candidate's name in the designated space on the ballot. Appointments are required for write-in candidate filing. To schedule an appointment, contact the City Clerk's Office at (707) 5882227 or cityclerk@rpcity.ca.gov. At the August 11 meeting, the City Clerk also provided an update on Measure K, which was placed on the November 3 ballot by the City Council on July 28, 2026. If approved by the Rohnert Park voters, Measure K would establish an additional/new transactions and use tax at the rate of 0.5% (1/2¢), which could generate approximately $5,500,000 per year. This proposed Transactions and Use Tax would also be a general tax, where the revenue is deposited in the City’s General Fund and could be used for any municipal purpose. RP 2026 ELECTION WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW Registered Voters in Rohnert Park Districts 2 and 5 will elect their representatives on November 3, 2026. If passed by the voters in Rohnert Park, Measure K would enact a halfcent local sales tax, providing $5.5 million annually to maintain emergency response, protect local drinking water, parks, property crime prevention, and other core City services with locally controlled funding that cannot be taken by the State. COMMUNITY TAKES CENTER STAGE AT NATIONAL NIGHT OUT National Night Out brought neighbors, families, City staff and public safety personnel together at Twin Creeks Park on August 4 for an evening centered on community and connection. Residents had the chance to meet local first responders, talk with City staff, ask questions and learn more about the services and resources available in Rohnert Park. The annual nationwide event is designed to strengthen relationships between residents, local government and first responders while helping create safer, more connected neighborhoods. Of course, there was plenty of fun, too. Families settled in for a showing of the classic film Hook on the City’s giant outdoor LED screen, played lawn games, explored public safety vehicles and enjoyed local food vendors and complimentary popcorn. Community members also picked up emergency preparedness resources, and the first 100 families received emergency go-bags to help kick-start their own home emergency kits. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make National Night Out a memorable evening in Rohnert Park!
ROHNERT PARK’S SUMMER SOUNDTRACK Another summer of music, food and community has come to a close! This year’s Party on the Plaza & Farmers Market brought Rohnert Park together for Friday nights filled with live music, local vendors, food trucks, activities for kids and plenty of summer fun. The City was out there with you, too. Our City Clerk’s Office helped residents learn more about upcoming elections, while City staff connected with community members and talked about the issues that matter most to you, including the future of downtown, budget questions and other topics shaping Rohnert Park. These conversations are an important part of how we stay connected and make sure residents have opportunities to engage directly with their City. Thank you to everyone who came out, danced, ate, shopped, asked questions and spent their summer evenings with us. We’ll see you next summer!
FOUNDERS DAY RETURNS TO ROHNERT PARK SEPTEMBER 26 Rohnert Park Founders Day is returning on Saturday, September 26, bringing back a community tradition filled with hometown pride, local organizations, family activities and plenty of ways to celebrate together. The Rohnert Park Founders Day Committee is partnering with the City of Rohnert Park to bring the celebration back with the goal of once again making Founders Day an annual community tradition. A highlight of this year’s celebration will be the Founders Day Community Parade, which will also recognize Rancho Cotate High School’s 60th anniversary and Homecoming. Local businesses, nonprofit organizations, community groups, clubs, families and residents are invited to participate in the parade and help celebrate the people and organizations that make Rohnert Park special. The celebration will continue at the Rohnert Park Community Center with a classic car show, chili and rib cook-off, live entertainment, food trucks, merchant and craft vendors, nonprofit booths, family activities and more. This year’s Founders Day also comes during a milestone year for the community, as Rohnert Park celebrates its 64th anniversary and the nation commemorates America’s 250th anniversary. Community members are encouraged not only to attend, but to get involved. Organizers are currently seeking parade entries, vendors, nonprofit organizations, car show participants, chili and rib cook-off teams, sponsors, community partners and volunteers. CONVERSATION, CONNECTION & COMMUNITY WITH LOS CIEN On August 13, the City of Rohnert Park was proud to welcome Los Cien to City Hall for a Charla with City Manager Marcela Piedra. The gathering offered an opportunity for open conversation about what is happening in Rohnert Park and where our community is headed. City Manager Piedra shared updates on several important topics, including the future of downtown, the City’s budget, current initiatives and opportunities to strengthen community connections and partnerships. But some of the best moments came from the conversation itself. Attendees brought thoughtful questions, shared perspectives and created the kind of meaningful dialogue that helps the City better understand what matters to the people and organizations we serve. We immensely enjoyed the opportunity to spend this time together and are grateful to Los Cien and everyone who participated. Building strong relationships with our community and local partners starts with making space to listen, learn and talk with one another, and we look forward to continuing these conversations.
DAISY GIRL SCOUTS DISCOVER LOCAL GOVERNMENT AT CITY HALL On August 28, the City of Rohnert Park welcomed a local Daisy Girl Scout troop to City Hall for a behind-the-scenes look at local government. Mayor Emily Sanborn gave the kindergarten and first-grade scouts a tour of the Council Chambers and spoke with them about civic engagement and the importance of getting involved in their community. The visit helped the team learn more about how their local government works as they work toward earning their Democracy Badge. The troop, led by Darci Reed Bryceson, is based in Rohnert Park and chose to visit City Hall as part of its Democracy Badge activities during this election year. The girls had an opportunity to see where City Council meetings take place, learn about the role of the Mayor and City Council, and ask questions about how decisions are made in their community. The City was pleased to welcome these young residents and help encourage an early interest in civic participation and public service.
LEARN ABOUT THE FRIENDLY CITY THROUGH OUR NEW EDUCATIONAL VIDEO SERIES The City of Rohnert Park has launched the first video in a new six-part educational series designed to help residents better understand how government in the Friendly City works. The first video, How the Friendly City Elects Its Leaders, provides an overview of the City's election process, including how residents can vote and how to run for City Council.
Additional videos in the series will be released throughout the year and will explore a variety of topics, including the City budget, the role of the City Council, how residents can participate in local government, City services and resources, and how tax dollars support City operations. The series is part of the City's ongoing commitment to educating and engaging the community. ROHNERT PARK EARNS ‘AA’ CREDIT RATING UPGRADE Rohnert Park recently received some good financial news: S&P Global Ratings upgraded the City’s sewer system revenue bonds from ‘AA-’ to ‘AA.’ That means an independent ratings agency has increased its confidence in the City’s ability to responsibly manage and repay the debt tied to our sewer system. S&P pointed to strong financial reserves, long-term planning and solid management as reasons for the upgrade. For residents, the biggest takeaway is that a stronger credit rating can help the City qualify for better interest rates when borrowing money for future sewer infrastructure projects. That can help keep financing costs lower over time. S&P also noted that Rohnert Park’s sewer rates remain affordable and that the City has strong reserve and capital planning practices in place. LIBRARY SERVICES ARE STAYING CLOSE TO HOME THIS FALL The Rohnert Park-Cotati Regional Library will temporarily close this fall while interior improvements are completed, but residents will still have several ways to enjoy library programs and services nearby. Throughout September, October and November, the Sonoma County Library will offer free programs for children, teens and adults at the Burton Avenue Recreation Center, 7421 Burton Avenue. Activities will include storytimes, bilingual yoga, early reader book clubs, sensory crafts, adult book groups, craft programs and a weekly robotics program for teens. The Library is also planning to offer holds pickup service at Sonoma County Library Headquarters, 6135 State Farm Drive. Additional information about this service will be shared as plans are finalized. Rohnert Park residents are also welcome to attend library craft programs offered in Cotati during October and November. Although the library building will be closed temporarily, the Sonoma County Library and City of Rohnert Park are working together to keep programs and services accessible to the community. DEVELOPMENT SERVICES COUNTER NOW OPEN DURING LUNCH HOURS Connecting with the City’s Development Services team just got a little more convenient. The City of Rohnert Park has expanded its Development Services counter hours to provide service during the lunch hour, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday. The change gives residents, property owners, contractors, businesses and others more flexibility to stop by City Hall without having to plan their visit around the previous midday closure.
Development Services helps community members navigate a wide range of needs related to development in Rohnert Park, including planning, building, engineering, housing and code compliance. Whether you have a question about a project, need help understanding a process or are stopping by for assistance, City staff are available to help. The updated hours are as follows: Monday through Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Now open continuously through the lunch hour Friday 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Closed from 12:00 to 4:30 p.m. Development Services is located on the second floor of Rohnert Park City Hall, 130 Avram Avenue.
CITYWIDE PAVEMENT MAINTENANCE Thank you to our residents for your patience during the most recent phase of the Citywide Pavement Preservation Project. The slurry seal that was applied is a cost-effective surface treatment that extends the life of the asphalt by sealing small cracks and protecting the pavement from water intrusion and sun damage. Preventative maintenance like this helps to avoid extremely costly street rebuilding in the future. With the slurry seal phase now complete, the overall project is still underway and is anticipated to be finished in November 2026. 2-1-1 SERVES AS A DIRECT LINE TO SUPPORT
KNOWING WHO TO CALL CAN MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE In moments of crisis, knowing the right number to call matters. While 9-1-1 is essential for emergencies that require immediate response, many situations call for a different kind of support. That is where 2-1-1 comes in. Available 24 hours a day, 2-1-1 connects residents to trusted local information, services, and resources when help is needed but the situation is not an emergency. Calling 9-1-1 should always be reserved for urgent situations such as medical emergencies, fires, crimes in progress, or immediate threats to safety. For everything else, 2-1-1 serves as a direct line to community support. Residents can receive assistance with housing and shelter, food resources, disaster relief and preparedness, tax preparation help, immigration services, mental health support, services for seniors and veterans, and more. By making the right call, residents help ensure emergency lines remain available for those who need them most. United Way’s 2-1-1 service is free, confidential, and available by phone or text. Residents can dial 2-1-1 or text their ZIP code to 898-211 to connect with a trained community specialist who can help guide them to the right resources. Knowing when to call 2-1-1 helps strengthen our community, reduces strain on emergency services, and ensures neighbors get the support they need, when they need it.
SPRECKELS PERFORMING ARTS CENTER 2026-27 SEASON It’s that time of year again…time for theaters around the country to reveal their 2026-27 seasons! Spreckels is excited to share the upcoming season of shows, a wonderful mix of genre, tone and subject matter, with something for everyone! For tickets and more information, click here. The season begins in the studio theater with the historical thriller Equivocation by Bill Cain, running Aug. 28-Sept. 13. Set in England, 1605, the play opens with Shagspeare, after a contemporary spelling of the Bard's name, being offered a commission by the prime minister to write the “true historie” of the infamous “Gunpowder Plot.”
But as Shag investigates further, he finds the King's version of the story might, in fact, be a cover-up. Shag and his troupe of actors are confronted with a profound moral and artistic dilemma: speak truth to power, and possibly die, or take the money and lie? Just six actors portray the multitude of characters that populate this critically acclaimed work, making it a fast-paced, often-hilarious, but ultimately chilling examination of the hard moral choices we all face.
For the second show of the season, Spreckels is honored to present the musical sensation, Dear Evan Hansen, in its North Bay premiere. Seventeenyear-old Evan Hansen has felt invisible his entire life. But when a tragedy shocks his community and thrusts him into the center of a rapidly evolving controversy, Evan is given the opportunity of a lifetime: the chance to be somebody else. Winner of dozens of awards, including six Tony Awards, including Best Musical in 2017, Dear Evan Hansen plays Sept. 25Oct. 11, 2026, in the large Codding Theater. Book by Steven Levenson, music and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. Beginning Nov. 27 and running through Dec. 13, 2026, audiences have the opportunity to see the North Bay premiere of Rooted, a charming and quirky comedy by Deborah Zoe Laufer. Sprinkled lightly with magical realism, Rooted tells the tale of shy, middle-aged Emery, who is happy living in her tree house, communing with her beloved plants. When her innocent plant-care videos go viral, she is suddenly faced with an adoring cult built around her and her greenery. A gentle, funny and insightful play about self-knowledge and mob mentality.
In December, All Is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914 returns to the Spreckels stage for a “blink and you’ll miss it” oneweekend run, Dec. 11-13. It’s Christmas Eve, 1914, on the Western Front. Out of the violence of World War I, a silence, then a song. A German soldier steps into No Man’s Land singing “Stille Nacht.” Thus begins an extraordinary night of camaraderie, music and peace. Featuring a glorious, all-male, a cappella chorale, All Is Calm is a remarkable true story told in the words and songs of the men who lived it. All Is Calm has quickly become a holiday tradition, eagerly anticipated by theatergoers looking for something meaningful and exquisitely beautiful for the holiday season. Simply presented in concert style in the Codding Theater. The Sycamore family is back, and we couldn’t be happier to see them! The fifth show of the season is the classic comedy, You Can’t Take It With You, written by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman.
In our never-ending quest to make live theater affordable, we are happy to announce that each of our shows this coming season, with the exception of All Is Calm, will offer one “Pick-Your-Price” performance on the opening night of each run, allowing patrons to choose any ticket price they wish, starting at $10.
A true masterpiece of American comedy, You Can’t Take It With You has been charming audiences since 1936 with its laugh-out-loud humor and exuberant message of “live and let live!” Come visit this iconoclastic family from Feb. 12-28, 2027. This play is presented in the Codding Theater. Spreckels is honored to present the North Bay premiere of Disney’s Frozen to close out the 2026/27 season. Running April 30-May 16, 2027, Frozen, set in the beautiful mountainous kingdom of Arendelle, tells the story of two sisters, Elsa and Anna, who face nearly insurmountable obstacles as they struggle to find their places in the world… and each other. A story of sisterly love that took the world by storm, first as a film, then as this stage musical. A magical night of theater for the entire family. The City Council adopts goals and policies during Council meetings to set the direction for the City.
