MAGNOLIA TENNIS COURTS REOPEN FOLLOWING COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP On July 15, the City of Rohnert Park celebrated the completion of the Magnolia Tennis Court Resurfacing Project with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Magnolia Park. The event marked more than the reopening of eight newly resurfaced tennis courts. It celebrated the power of collaboration between the City of Rohnert Park, the Rohnert Park Tennis Club, community partners, and volunteers who came together to make the project a reality. Founded in 1975, the Rohnert Park Tennis Club has grown to more than 270 members ranging in age from 18 to 88. As the primary users of the Magnolia Park courts, the club hosts leagues, tournaments, lessons, and recreational play throughout the year. When the City's planned resurfacing project was postponed because of budget constraints, the Tennis Club partnered with the City to find another path forward. Through an Access and Improvement Agreement, the City established the framework for the project while the Tennis Club led fundraising efforts.
The club secured a $60,000 grant from the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and raised the remaining funds needed to complete the approximately $120,000 project. The City recognized the dedication and leadership of the Rohnert Park Tennis Club, whose vision and persistence helped create a lasting community asset that will benefit residents for years to come. The City also thanked the United States Tennis Association for its investment in the project, First Serve Productions for completing the resurfacing work, and the City Council and staff for supporting an innovative partnership that brought the project to life. The newly resurfaced courts will continue to serve recreational players, league competitors, youth programs, and families, providing a welcoming space for tennis and community connection for years to come. The ribbon cutting concluded with the official reopening of the Magnolia Tennis Courts and a celebration of what can be accomplished when a community works together toward a common goal.
ROHNERT PARK HAS A NEW LOOK — AND YOU HELPED DESIGN IT If you've ever filled out a City survey, shared feedback at a community meeting, or told a consultant what makes Rohnert Park feel like home, this is your moment to see that input come to life. On July 28, City staff presented Rohnert Park's refreshed brand to the City Council — the result of a year-long process built on resident voices, staff feedback, and a genuine desire to make City communications easier to recognize, read, and trust.
Why a City Needs a "Brand" in the First Place A brand isn't just a logo — it's the visual thread that ties together everything from a flyer on a community bulletin board to the City website to the sign on a park pavilion. Over the years, Rohnert Park's look had drifted in a lot of directions. Different departments were using different logo versions, colors, and fonts, which made it harder to tell at a glance what was official City information. Some of those older materials also fell short of current accessibility standards. So last year, the City put out a request for proposals to find a firm that understood municipal communication — not corporate branding, city branding — and selected RadiantBrands to lead the project. But the most important part of the process wasn't the design firm. It was you.
Built From What Residents Actually Said Before a single color was chosen, the City asked residents what Rohnert Park means to them. The answers shaped everything that followed. Residents described the City as family-friendly, welcoming, peaceful, safe, and connected — the kind of place, as one resident put it, where people can "build a family, make a home, and make memories." Residents also talked again and again about green: the parks, the tree-lined streets, the hills that frame the city. That input is why the refreshed color palette leads with Rohnert Park Green and Spring Meadow, colors chosen to reflect the landscape and identity residents already associate with home. It's also why the new Brand Style Guide describes the City's voice as approachable, clear, reliable, and welcoming — the same words residents used to describe the community itself.
What's Actually Changing The refreshed brand system includes: An updated logo family — primary, horizontal, stacked, and icon versions — for consistent use across letterhead, the website, and social media A clear color palette anchored in Rohnert Park Green and Spring Meadow, with supporting neutrals and accents Typography and layout standards that make City materials easier to scan Built-in accessibility guidance, including color contrast rules, so materials work better for residents with different reading and vision needs Ready-to-use templates for flyers, social media, presentations, and signage, so every department works from the same playbook None of this changes what the City does. It changes how clearly the City can tell you about it.
Rolling Out Gradually, On Purpose Rohnert Park isn't tossing out every printed flyer and business card overnight. Staff outlined a phased rollout: existing materials will be used through their normal reorder cycles while new materials and digital communications adopt the updated look over time. The full brand development, including design and consultant work, was funded through the City's existing Communications budget at a cost of $34,555.
Why It Matters for You A consistent, accessible brand might sound like a behind-the-scenes detail, but it has a real, everyday impact. When City materials look and read the same way every time, it's easier to trust what you're looking at and easier to find the information you need — especially during things like road closures, community events, or emergency alerts. This work also supports goals in the City's 2040 General Plan, which calls for strengthening Rohnert Park's community identity and making City information more accessible to everyone.
What to Expect Keep an eye out for the refreshed logo, colors, and templates showing up gradually across City materials in the months ahead — and know that when you see Rohnert Park Green on a flyer or a new "rpcity.ca.gov" link in your inbox, it reflects a process that started with residents like you. This is your City, shaped in part by your voice. Thank you for being part of it.

The Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety is proud to announce the return of School Resource Officer (SRO) Debbie Lamaison as students and educators prepare for the start of the new school year. Officer Lamaison is a familiar face throughout the Rohnert Park-Cotati school community and has earned a reputation for building meaningful relationships with students, teachers, administrators, and families. Her compassionate approach, commitment to youth, and dedication to fostering trust have made her an invaluable resource both on campus and throughout the community. Throughout her career with the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety, Officer Lamaison has served in a variety of roles, including Detective, Firefighter, member of the Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT), and School Resource Officer. Her diverse public safety experience allows her to bring a unique perspective to the schools she serves.
As School Resource Officer, Officer Lamaison works closely with school administrators, faculty, counselors, and community partners to help create safe, welcoming, and supportive learning environments. Beyond campus safety, she serves as a mentor, educator, and trusted resource for students while providing classroom presentations, assisting with emergency preparedness, and connecting families with community resources. Officer Lamaison's dedication to serving young people has been recognized at the national level. In 2024, Congressman Mike Thompson named her one of Sonoma County's Public Safety Heroes, recognizing her outstanding commitment to engaging with students, promoting positive outcomes, and fostering trust throughout the community. "Deborah Lamaison has made it her mission to engage with students and our community to pursue positive and successful outcomes and foster trust," Congressman Thompson said when announcing the award. "She has set a public example of how law enforcement can engage with youth and keep our students and school campuses safer." The return of Officer Lamaison marks the restoration of the Department's School Resource Officer program, reaffirming the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety's commitment to partnering with local schools to support student success through education, prevention, mentorship, and relationship-building. As the new school year begins, Officer Lamaison looks forward to reconnecting with returning students, meeting new families, and continuing the partnerships that help make Rohnert Park schools safe places to learn and grow. OFFICER GREY RECOGNIZED BY MOTHERS AGAINST DRUNK DRIVING FOR COMMITMENT TO TRAFFIC SAFETY The Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety is proud to recognize Officer Grey for being honored by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) during the 2026 Sacramento Law Enforcement Recognition Event. MADD, the nation’s largest nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting families and communities from drunk driving, drugged driving, and underage drinking, recognizes law enforcement professionals whose efforts help prevent impaired driving and save lives. Officer Grey was recognized for his commitment to traffic safety and his dedication to removing impaired drivers from our roadways. Each DUI enforcement action represents more than an arrest—it represents a potential tragedy prevented, a family protected, and a step toward safer streets for everyone. The Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety congratulates Officer Grey on this welldeserved recognition and thanks him for his continued service, professionalism, and commitment to keeping our community safe.
WELCOMING ROHNERT PARK'S NEWEST PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICERS The City of Rohnert Park proudly welcomed three new Public Safety Officers during a recent City Council meeting. Roberto Balandran, Tyler Rowlands, and Craig "CJ" Engelstad were officially sworn in as they begin their careers serving the Rohnert Park community. Rohnert Park's Department of Public Safety is unique in that its officers are cross-trained to serve in both law enforcement and fire service roles, allowing the City to provide a coordinated all-hazards emergency response. We are excited to welcome them to the team and thank them for their commitment to serving our community.

The first video, How the Friendly City Elects Its Leaders, provides an overview of the City's election process, including how residents can vote and how to run for City Council.
Additional videos in the series will be released throughout the year and will explore a variety of topics, including the City budget, the role of the City Council, how residents can participate in local government, City services and resources, and how tax dollars support City operations. RIDING THE RAILS: WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT SMART IN ROHNERT PARK If you have not tried the SonomaMarin Area Rail Transit (SMART) train yet, Rohnert Park's own station makes it one of the easiest ways to skip traffic and get where you are going. Whether you are commuting to Santa Rosa, heading down to San Rafael, or just want a low-stress way to reach the Larkspur ferry, SMART connects our community to the rest of the North Bay. SMART is the region's passenger rail service, running along a 48-mile corridor with stations in Windsor, the Sonoma County Airport area, Santa Rosa, Rohnert Park, Cotati, Petaluma, Novato, San Rafael, and Larkspur.
The system also includes a bicycle and pedestrian pathway that runs alongside the tracks, so even if you are not boarding a train, there is a good chance you have walked or biked a stretch of it. Looking ahead, SMART is extending service north with a Healdsburg station on track to open in 2028, and a future Cloverdale extension planned beyond that.
Getting Your Fare Sorted
Why It Matters for Rohnert Park
SMART does not use paper tickets, so plan ahead before you head to the platform. Most riders use a reloadable Clipper card or the SMART mobile app, and ticket vending machines at the station accept both cash and debit or credit cards (just note that cash purchases do not give change, so any extra value stays on your card for next time). One detail worth remembering: always tag on when you board and tag off when you leave, since that is how your fare gets calculated correctly. Skip either step and you will be charged the full fare for all zones.
Having a station right here means residents have a real alternative to sitting in traffic on Highway 101, plus an easy connection to job centers, schools, and shopping up and down the corridor. It is part of a bigger picture of giving our community more ways to get around Sonoma and Marin counties without needing to drive every leg of the trip.
A nice perk for local families: youth 18 and under and seniors 65 and over ride free.
What To Expect On Board SMART trains are ADA accessible, with accessible restrooms, seating, and staff on hand to help with boarding. Each train has power outlets if you need to charge a device, restrooms are available on every train, and bikes are welcome, with room for up to 24 bikes per two-car train. Small pets can ride too, as long as they are in an enclosed carrier that stays off the seats and out of the aisle, and service animals are always welcome.

LIBRARY SERVICES ARE STAYING CLOSE TO HOME THIS FALL The Rohnert Park-Cotati Regional Library will temporarily close this fall while interior improvements are completed, but residents will still have several ways to enjoy library programs and services nearby. Throughout September, October and November, the Sonoma County Library will offer free programs for children, teens and adults at the Burton Avenue Recreation Center, 7421 Burton Avenue. Activities will include storytimes, bilingual yoga, early reader book clubs, sensory crafts, adult book groups, craft programs and a weekly robotics program for teens. The Library is also planning to offer holds pickup service at Sonoma County Library Headquarters, 6135 State Farm Drive. Additional information about this service will be shared as plans are finalized. Rohnert Park residents are also welcome to attend library craft programs offered in Cotati during October and November. Although the library building will be closed temporarily, the Sonoma County Library and City of Rohnert Park are working together to keep programs and services accessible to the community. FREE WATER CONSERVATION RESOURCES AVAILABLE AT CITY HALL Want to lower your water bill and help protect Rohnert Park's infrastructure at the same time? Stop by City Hall, where residents can pick up free water-saving devices and grease disposal tools while supplies last, including showerheads, faucet aerators, leak detection tablets, and Grease Hero® drain guards. A small toilet leak can waste hundreds of gallons a month, and pouring grease down the drain is one of the leading causes of sewer backups.
These free, simple fixes help residents save water, avoid costly plumbing repairs, and keep our wastewater system running smoothly. Every small action adds up. Swing by City Hall at 130 Avram Avenue and grab what you need to make your home a little more efficient, and help keep Rohnert Park sustainable for years to come.
CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECT UPDATES Public Works Utilities Administration Building Project Takes Shape
This investment supports the City's commitment to providing reliable water and wastewater services while creating a modern, functional workspace for the employees who maintain this critical infrastructure.
Construction is underway on the City of Rohnert Park's new Public Works Utilities Administration Building located at the City's Wastewater Pump Station at 201 J Rogers Lane. The project includes construction of a new single-story administration building, associated parking lot, and supporting site improvements. Once complete, the new facility will bring the City's Utility Operations staff together in one centralized location, improving communication, collaboration, and day-today operational efficiency. This investment supports the City's commitment to providing reliable water and wastewater services while creating a modern, functional workspace for the employees who maintain this critical infrastructure.
Construction is currently progressing as planned, with completion anticipated in Winter 2026, weather permitting. Adam’s Commercial General Contracting is the awarded contractor. We appreciate the community's patience as this important project moves forward and look forward to sharing additional updates as construction continues.
CITYWIDE PAVEMENT MAINTENANCE The City of Rohnert Park is investing in its streets through the Citywide Pavement Preservation Project, a citywide effort to preserve and extend the life of Rohnert Park's roadways. The project covers various streets throughout the city and includes a combination of pavement treatments, slurry seals, cape seals, crack sealing, and grind and overlays. Additionally, the project will include striping updates and pedestrian curb ramp replacements to improve accessibility. Maintaining roads before they fail is far more cost-effective than waiting until full reconstruction is required. The treatments used in this project are designed to seal and protect the existing pavement surface, slow deterioration, and extend the useful life of Rohnert Park's streets at a fraction of the cost of full repaving. This project is funded by the Road Maintenance and Rehabilitation Account, Gas Tax HUTA, Measure M, Go Sonoma, General Fund Infrastructure, and Bond III. 2-1-1 SERVES AS A DIRECT LINE TO SUPPORT
KNOWING WHO TO CALL CAN MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE In moments of crisis, knowing the right number to call matters. While 9-1-1 is essential for emergencies that require immediate response, many situations call for a different kind of support. That is where 2-1-1 comes in. Available 24 hours a day, 2-1-1 connects residents to trusted local information, services, and resources when help is needed but the situation is not an emergency. Calling 9-1-1 should always be reserved for urgent situations such as medical emergencies, fires, crimes in progress, or immediate threats to safety. For everything else, 2-1-1 serves as a direct line to community support. Residents can receive assistance with housing and shelter, food resources, disaster relief and preparedness, tax preparation help, immigration services, mental health support, services for seniors and veterans, and more. By making the right call, residents help ensure emergency lines remain available for those who need them most. United Way’s 2-1-1 service is free, confidential, and available by phone or text. Residents can dial 2-1-1 or text their ZIP code to 898-211 to connect with a trained community specialist who can help guide them to the right resources. Knowing when to call 2-1-1 helps strengthen our community, reduces strain on emergency services, and ensures neighbors get the support they need, when they need it.
SPRECKELS PERFORMING ARTS CENTER 2026-27 SEASON It’s that time of year again…time for theaters around the country to reveal their 2026-27 seasons! Spreckels is excited to share the upcoming season of shows, a wonderful mix of genre, tone and subject matter, with something for everyone! For tickets and more information, click here. The season begins in the studio theater with the historical thriller Equivocation by Bill Cain, running Aug. 28-Sept. 13. Set in England, 1605, the play opens with Shagspeare, after a contemporary spelling of the Bard's name, being offered a commission by the prime minister to write the “true historie” of the infamous “Gunpowder Plot.”
But as Shag investigates further, he finds the King's version of the story might, in fact, be a cover-up. Shag and his troupe of actors are confronted with a profound moral and artistic dilemma: speak truth to power, and possibly die, or take the money and lie? Just six actors portray the multitude of characters that populate this critically acclaimed work, making it a fast-paced, often-hilarious, but ultimately chilling examination of the hard moral choices we all face.
For the second show of the season, Spreckels is honored to present the musical sensation, Dear Evan Hansen, in its North Bay premiere. Seventeenyear-old Evan Hansen has felt invisible his entire life. But when a tragedy shocks his community and thrusts him into the center of a rapidly evolving controversy, Evan is given the opportunity of a lifetime: the chance to be somebody else. Winner of dozens of awards, including six Tony Awards, including Best Musical in 2017, Dear Evan Hansen plays Sept. 25Oct. 11, 2026, in the large Codding Theater. Book by Steven Levenson, music and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. Beginning Nov. 27 and running through Dec. 13, 2026, audiences have the opportunity to see the North Bay premiere of Rooted, a charming and quirky comedy by Deborah Zoe Laufer. Sprinkled lightly with magical realism, Rooted tells the tale of shy, middle-aged Emery, who is happy living in her tree house, communing with her beloved plants. When her innocent plant-care videos go viral, she is suddenly faced with an adoring cult built around her and her greenery. A gentle, funny and insightful play about self-knowledge and mob mentality.
In December, All Is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914 returns to the Spreckels stage for a “blink and you’ll miss it” oneweekend run, Dec. 11-13. It’s Christmas Eve, 1914, on the Western Front. Out of the violence of World War I, a silence, then a song. A German soldier steps into No Man’s Land singing “Stille Nacht.” Thus begins an extraordinary night of camaraderie, music and peace. Featuring a glorious, all-male, a cappella chorale, All Is Calm is a remarkable true story told in the words and songs of the men who lived it. All Is Calm has quickly become a holiday tradition, eagerly anticipated by theatergoers looking for something meaningful and exquisitely beautiful for the holiday season. Simply presented in concert style in the Codding Theater. The Sycamore family is back, and we couldn’t be happier to see them! The fifth show of the season is the classic comedy, You Can’t Take It With You, written by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman.

Meet Oreo! This sweet 1–2 year old Cattle Dog mix came to us after being left behind during an eviction along with another dog and several cats. When Oreo first arrived at the shelter, she was very shy and unsure of her surroundings, but she is slowly learning that people can be kind and is beginning to show her true personality.

Oreo is looking for a patient and understanding family who will give her the time and space she needs to feel comfortable and come out of her shell. A home with adults or respectful teens would be the best fit for this gentle girl. Oreo would greatly benefit from living with another confident dog to help her continue building her confidence. She especially enjoys the company of smaller dogs, but larger dogs can be a little intimidating for her. If you’re looking for a quiet companion who just needs someone to believe in her and give her a chance, Oreo may be the perfect match!
NALA Nala is a 9-year-old Torbie with a heart full of love and a personality that lights up any room. She adores everyone she meets and enjoys life to the fullest—despite her age, she still moves and grooves with energy and joy. Nala is currently on a diet and losing weight, which is helping her feel even healthier and more active. She does have some respiratory issues, but they don’t slow her down or diminish her sweet, affectionate spirit. Nala is looking for a loving home that will appreciate her warmth, charm, and zest for life.
ANUBIS Anubis is a 7.5-year-old Shepherd mix who proves that great things come in small packages! This compact cutie weighs just 39 pounds and has the sweetest personality. He can be a little shy when meeting new people, but once he realizes he's safe, he warms up quickly and becomes a loyal, affectionate companion. Anubis would do well in a home with respectful people of any age who will give him a little patience. He loves small dogs. Larger dogs can be a bit intimidating for him, so he would likely do best with calmer canine companions or as the only dog. He also does well with confident, dog-savvy cats.

The City Council adopts goals and policies during Council meetings to set the direction for the City.
