The Girl Scout Hut at Alicia Park has a fresh new look thanks to an incredible partnership between the City of Rohnert Park, the North Coast Builders Exchange, and the North Bay Construction Corps. Twenty-two graduating high school seniors spent the final weeks of their eight-week construction training program replacing siding, installing new trim, painting the building, and giving the longtime community space a much-needed refresh. The project provided students with valuable hands-on experience while restoring a building that has served generations of Girl Scouts and their families.
This project is a great example of what can happen when community partners come together around a shared purpose. Public Works helped connect a local need with a workforce development opportunity, creating lasting benefits for both the students and the community. The City extends its sincere thanks to the North Bay Construction Corps students, North Coast Builders Exchange, Workforce Development Coordinator MacKenzie Smith, and the many businesses and sponsors whose generosity made the project possible Together, they have created a space that will continue serving Rohnert Park families for years to come.

ROHNERTPARKKICKSOFFTHE2026 ELECTIONSEASON
On Monday, June 22, City Clerks and Elections Officials from every Sonoma County city came together with the Sonoma County Registrar of Voters for an election training, officially kicking off the November 2026 election season. During the training, all clerks were deputized by the Registrar of Voters, authorizing them to administer the candidate nomination process for their respective jurisdictions. The group also received updates on new election laws and reviewed the latest candidate filing requirements to ensure a consistent and accurate process throughout the State
Following the training, the clerks gathered for a brown bag lunch hosted by the City of Santa Rosa to share best practices and discuss upcoming election timelines that are essential during every election cycle.
Countywide collaboration among City Clerks and the Registrar of Voters is critical to conducting transparent, and well-organized elections By working together, sharing resources, and supporting one another, election officials help ensure that candidates receive consistent information and that voters can have confidence in the integrity of the election process across Sonoma County.
While this meeting marks the official kickoff of the 2026 election season for the City of Rohnert Park, preparations have been underway for months.
The City Clerk's Office has been working to update election materials, develop candidate resources, prepare outreach and educational information, and coordinate with the Sonoma County Registrar of Voters to ensure a smooth and successful election
Rohnert Park voters will elect a City Councilmember for District 2 and a City Councilmember for District 5 in the November 3, 2026, General Municipal Election.

The City of Rohnert Park held a Juneteenth Freedom Day Flag Raising Ceremony on June 16 at City Hall, bringing community members together to recognize the history, meaning, and continued importance of Juneteenth
Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, were finally informed of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It is a day of remembrance, reflection, and celebration, honoring freedom while also recognizing that the work of equality and justice continues. During the ceremony, Mayor Emily Sanborn shared a powerful reminder: “Nobody is free until we are all free.” As the Juneteenth flag was raised, the City reaffirmed its commitment to inclusion, dignity, and building a community where every person is valued and respected.
Thank you to everyone who joined us in recognizing this important day and reflecting on the shared responsibility we all have in creating a more just and equitable future.

Congratulations to Councilmember Gerard Giudice on his appointment as Chair of the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District Finance Auditing Committee. Rohnert Park is excited to welcome Natalia Fossi as the City's new Director of Development Services, effective June 15 Natalia joins us from the City and County of San Francisco's Planning Department, bringing more than 12 years of experience in planning, zoning, housing, and historic preservation. During her time in San Francisco, she helped launch the city's first fully online Accessory Dwelling Unit application system, streamlined permit review processes, and worked to clear a significant backlog— experience that will serve our community well as Rohnert Park continues to grow. With a Master's degree in Historic Preservation and a Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Natalia brings a thoughtful, well-rounded perspective to how development and community planning intersect.
As Director, Natalia will lead a team of 17 dedicated employees across our Development Services Department, which oversees everything from permitting and building to housing programs and code compliance including the Labath Landing Interim Housing Project. Her work will also support the recently adopted General Plan 2040, helping guide how Rohnert Park grows over the coming decades. "I'm excited to join the City of Rohnert Park and build on my experience making development services more efficient, transparent, and responsive to the community," Natalia shared. We're confident her leadership will strengthen the services our residents and businesses rely on, and we look forward to the positive impact she'll bring to our community in the years ahead.

The City of Rohnert Park is pleased to welcome Tracy Rankin as the City’s permanent Director of Human Resources, Risk Manager, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Coordinator, effective June 28, 2026 Tracy has served in the role on an interim basis since February 2026 and brings 24 years of public-sector human resources experience, including more than a decade of service with the City of Rohnert Park.
Tracy began her human resources career in 2002 at the Sonoma County Superior Court and joined the City of Rohnert Park in 2014 as a Human Resources Analyst. Since then, she has supported the City’s organizational growth, mentored colleagues, and helped strengthen workplace practices that support employees across the organization. City Manager Marcela Piedra praised Tracy’s sound judgment, professionalism, and people-centered leadership, while Mayor Emily Sanborn congratulated her on behalf of the City Council, calling the appointment well deserved.

Mayor Emily Sanborn has proclaimed July as Parks Make Life Better Month in the City of Rohnert Park, recognizing the important role parks and recreation play in supporting community health, wellness, and quality of life. The proclamation highlights the many ways parks and recreation strengthen communities, including supporting physical, emotional, and mental well-being, creating memorable experiences, and encouraging lifelong learning and connection. Parks and recreation also contribute to local vitality by supporting community events, partnerships, youth enrichment, senior programs, adult fitness opportunities, and safe spaces where residents of all ages and abilities can participate.

They help build community identity, support inclusion, protect natural resources, and provide places where residents can come together peacefully and meaningfully. STUDENTPEACETILE PROJECTUNVEILEDAT ROTARYCOMMUNITY PEACEPARK
The Rotary Club of Rohnert Park-Cotati recently celebrated the unveiling of the Student Peace Tile Project at Rotary Community Peace Park, located at 7421 Burton Drive. Centered on the theme “Creating Peace and Hope in the World,” the project brought together local students, families, teachers, community members, Rotarians, and City representatives to recognize a meaningful public art installation more than 18 months in the making
The project began as a student design contest for students in grades 3 through 12 and grew into a communitywide effort to create 240 unique, peace-themed ceramic tiles.
Students and community members contributed artwork expressing their hopes and visions for peace, unity, and understanding. The finished tiles are now permanently displayed on a customdesigned structure featuring a globe of the Earth crowned with doves, creating a lasting symbol of peace in the heart of the community.
The ceremony also recognized the many partners who helped bring the project to life, including the Rotary Club of Rohnert Park-Cotati, Rotary Club of Rancho Cotati, Rotary Club of Sonoma Mountain Twilight, Sonoma Tilemakers, community supporters, the City of Rohnert Park Small Grant Program, Graton Rancheria, City staff, and the students, teachers, parents, and volunteers who contributed their creativity and dedication. The project stands as a reminder of what can be created when schools, nonprofits, local government, and community members work together toward a shared vision of hope.
WHAT’SHAPPENINGWITH YOURWATERSYSTEM?
The City’s Public Works team is making ongoing improvements to the infrastructure that delivers safe, reliable water to homes and businesses across Rohnert Park. Here is a look at one project currently underway. BRINGINGGROUNDWATER
There are 23 deep groundwater wells located throughout the city of Rohnert Park. These wells provide 30% of the City’s drinking water, which is an average of 1.5 billion gallons of drinking water annually Three of the City’s well sites located along Camino Colegio and East Cotati Avenue are undergoing repair of casing damage and replacement of aging pump and motor.
A sudden increase in sand and gravel being pumped from the well indicated a progressive casing and well screen failure. These well sites plan to go back into operation once the replacement parts are installed.
CITYOFROHNERTPARK’SCITYWIDE PAVEMENTPRESERVATIONPROJECT ISUNDERWAY!
The City of Rohnert Park is investing in its streets through the Citywide Pavement Preservation Project, a citywide effort to preserve and extend the life of Rohnert Park's roadways. The project covers various streets throughout the city and includes a combination of pavement treatments, slurry seals, cape seals, crack sealing, and grind and overlays. Additionally, the project will include striping updates and pedestrian curb ramp replacements to improve accessibility
Maintaining roads before they fail is far more cost-effective than waiting until full reconstruction is required. The treatments used in this project are designed to seal and protect the existing pavement surface, slow deterioration, and extend the useful life of Rohnert Park's streets at a fraction of the cost of full repaving
This project is funded by the Road Maintenance and Rehabilitation Account, Gas Tax HUTA, Measure M, Go Sonoma, General Fund Infrastructure, and Bond III. Thank you for your patience and for anticipating extra travel time while navigating throughout the City of Rohnert Park. This project has an estimated completion date of November 2026. The parking is now open at the lot near the Rohnert Park-Cotati Regional Library! We thank the community for their patience and understanding as crews completed the solar canopy project at the City Center Parking Lot.
This privately owned and maintained infrastructure, along with a 20-year agreement, allows the City to purchase power from GreenSkies Clean Energy at a reduced rate Excess power is sold by GreenSkies Clean Energy to PG&E in order to fund the construction of the project.
The recently installed solar canopies at Callinan Sports and Fitness Center, Spreckels Performing Arts Center, and the City Center Parking Lot are expected to produce more than 500,000 kilowatt-hours of power annually, offsetting the City’s usage at these sites by as much as 99%.

Calling 9-1-1 should always be reserved for urgent situations such as medical emergencies, fires, crimes in progress, or immediate threats to safety For everything else, 2-1-1 serves as a direct line to community support. Residents can receive assistance with housing and shelter, food resources, disaster relief and preparedness, tax preparation help, immigration services, mental health support, services for seniors and veterans, and more. By making the right call, residents help ensure emergency lines remain available for those who need them most.
United Way’s 2-1-1 service is free, confidential, and available by phone or text.
