One of the best things about Rohnert Park is how much our community cares Residents here are thoughtful, engaged, and passionate about keeping our city safe, welcoming, and a great place to live. That community spirit is exactly why we launched our Community Priorities Survey.
The survey helps us understand what services and investments matter most to you as we plan for the future And so far, your feedback has been loud and clear: protecting essential services is a top priority. Residents have emphasized the importance of strong emergency response, fire protection, safe drinking water, clean and wellmaintained parks, and keeping the City financially healthy.
Public safety continues to be front of mind. Our integrated public safety model, where officers are trained in both fire and police response, allows us to respond quickly and effectively when you need help. Survey responses reinforce how much our community values fast response times and highly trained professionals.
Parks also earned major love. With 28 parks across Rohnert Park, these spaces are where families gather, kids play, and neighbors connect. Residents want to see continued care for playgrounds, restrooms, sports fields, lighting, and park infrastructure so these spaces stay clean, safe, and fun for everyone.

For many Rohnert Park residents, Pride Month is personal woven into their lives, their families, and their neighborhood. When the City raises a flag or issues a proclamation, the message is simple: you belong here. The City was glad to be joined by the Sonoma County Library and the Rohnert Park Chamber of Commerce, and grateful to Athena and the Celebrate Love team for doing this work close to home, for the neighbors right around them. That is exactly the kind of effort Rohnert Park is proud to stand alongside.

Community conversations are at the heart of good local government On Wednesday, May 27, the City of Rohnert Park hosted a Community Coffee & Chat at the Rohnert Park Senior Center, bringing residents together with City staff and leaders for an informal morning discussion about local priorities, City services, public safety, infrastructure, and the many ways community members can stay informed and involved. The turnout and the dialogue reflected exactly the kind of engaged, invested community that makes Rohnert Park a great place to live.

As these zippy little devices pop up on more sidewalks, parks, and roadways across Rohnert Park, residents have questions and Director of Public Safety Chief Mattos was there to answer them From the legalities of where scooters can and can't go, to the safety considerations that affect riders and pedestrians alike, the conversation helped residents better understand the rules of the road (and the sidewalk) in an era of rapidly evolving mobility.
City staff also walked residents through the City budget, including how the City is working to balance current needs with long-term financial planning. Budget discussions are not always the most headline-grabbing topic, but they are essential connecting the dots between community priorities and the real decisions that shape services, staffing, and infrastructure year after year
Public Works Director Mark Hendersen shared updates on several active and upcoming projects, with particular attention to the street pavement maintenance project. Keeping Rohnert Park's roads well-maintained is one of the most tangible ways the City invests in quality of life, and residents appreciated the opportunity to hear directly about the planning and coordination that goes into this ongoing work.

On May 26, the Rohnert Park City Council took a moment to recognize one of their own. Mayor Emily Sanborn presented a formal proclamation honoring Aaron Johnson on the occasion of his retirement, celebrating a career defined by dedication, professionalism, and genuine care for the community he served. Aaron brought a strong work ethic and a commitment to excellence to everything he did, earning the respect and appreciation of the colleagues and residents he worked alongside over the years.
What made Aaron's recognition especially meaningful was the story behind it. Beyond his work with the City, Aaron gave his time and energy to the community outside of the office as well, including his involvement with Special Olympics, where he helped create opportunities and inspire athletes of all abilities. That kind of commitment does not go unnoticed, and it is exactly the kind of leadership and compassion that reflects the spirit of Rohnert Park at its best. Mayor Sanborn and the full City Council extended their sincere gratitude for everything Aaron contributed, and wished him well as he heads into a well-earned retirement filled with new adventures and time with the people he loves Rohnert Park is a better place for his years of service.

Every day in Rohnert Park, streets get patched, water flows, parks stay open, and storm drains do their job None of that happens by accident National Public Works Week, observed May 17 through 23, is a chance to say out loud what residents benefit from quietly all year: this city works because a dedicated team of people make it work This year's theme, "Rooted in Service, Powered by Community," fits that reality well. On May 20th, the City gathered to celebrate them.
A BBQ brought colleagues together across departments to share a meal and acknowledge the Public Works staff whose expertise keeps so much of daily life in Rohnert Park running smoothly The scope of what this team manages is genuinely broad: maintained streets and right-of-way care, functioning water and sewer systems, storm drainage, neighborhood parks, public buildings, and emergency response support
That is a lot of ground to cover, and they cover it well. Much of the work only gets noticed when something goes wrong, and this team makes sure it rarely does To everyone on the Rohnert Park Public Works team: thank you for your service, your skill, and your commitment to this community.

Housing is one of those topics that touches almost everything. It shapes where people work, where their kids go to school, how long their commute is, and whether they feel rooted in the community they call home. That is exactly why the City of Rohnert Park took time this month to recognize affordable housing not just as a policy priority, but as a community value.
On May 26, Mayor Emily Sanborn and the Rohnert Park City Council formally proclaimed May 2026 as Affordable Housing Month in the City of Rohnert Park The proclamation recognized something that many residents already know from lived experience: finding an affordable home in one of the most expensive housing markets in the nation is genuinely hard. It also reinforced the City's commitment to safe, stable, and affordable housing for all residents, and encouraged the community to embrace the spirit of equal housing opportunity. The proclamation was a moment worth marking, because it is a reminder that the City sees this challenge clearly and is actively working to be part of the solution.
WHATISTHEHOUSINGLANDTRUSTOF THENORTHBAY?
The Housing Land Trust of the North Bay, known as HLT, is a nonprofit organization that has been working since 2002 to make homeownership possible for working families across the northern Bay Area Their model is straightforward but powerful: the price of a home is tied to income, so it stays affordable not just for the first buyer, but for every buyer after that. The land itself becomes a permanent community asset, set aside to serve the workforce generation after generation. A single community investment keeps a home affordable forever. HLT shared an example from Santa Rosa, where a home built in 2005 has now served five different families, each one benefiting from the same original investment in affordability.
Across the North Bay, HLT currently stewards 157 permanently affordable homes that have served 196 families. Right here in Rohnert Park, 36 of those homes are already part of the program, with dozens more in the pipeline

One of the most striking parts of the presentation was a breakdown of who qualifies for HLT homes. The answer is: a lot of people that Rohnert Park residents know and rely on every day. Teachers. Firefighters. Police officers. Nurses Bus drivers Childcare workers Plumbers Electricians Paralegals These are the people who make a community run, and in a housing market like ours, many of them struggle to afford to live near where they work. HLT's program is specifically designed to change that, keeping homeownership within reach for the workforce that keeps Rohnert Park going.

Affordable homeownership is not just good for the individual families it serves. It strengthens the entire community. CODECOMPLIANCE:HELPING KEEPROHNERTPARKSAFE, CLEAN,ANDWELCOMING
Every city has a team that keeps neighborhoods looking and feeling like home. In Rohnert Park, that team is Code Compliance. Their work happens on streets, sidewalks, storefronts, and properties across the community — and most of it happens quietly, before small problems become bigger ones.
At the May 12 City Council meeting, the City presented the 2025 Code Compliance Annual Report. The numbers tell an encouraging story.
In 2025, the City opened 1,130 new code compliance cases a 13 3 percent decrease from 2024. That decline reflects a shift toward earlier intervention, more consistent followup, and a community that is increasingly resolving concerns before they escalate.
Shopping cart blight cases dropped by 25.6 percent. Permit violations fell by 78.4 percent. Environmental and health cases decreased by 59 6 percent These are not just statistics. They represent real progress in neighborhoods across Rohnert Park.
At the same time, Property and Public Nuisance cases increased by 38 3 percent, and HomelessRelated cases increased by 17.5 percent. These areas remain a priority. Code Compliance staff work alongside Public Safety, Public Works, and community partners to respond thoughtfully — addressing conditions while connecting people to available services.
Sidewalk accessibility is another ongoing focus. Clear pathways matter for everyone: seniors, families, people using mobility devices, and anyone moving through the community safely. The introduction of the CodeTRAK case management system has helped the City track cases more consistently, coordinate across departments, and respond faster to community concerns. The tools are better, and the results are showing it.
This work directly supports the City Council's goals of Community Quality of Life and Infrastructure and Beautification — which show up in whether your street looks cared for, whether blight gets addressed, and whether Rohnert Park continues to feel like a place worth taking pride in.

The City of Rohnert Park is investing in its streets through the 2025 Pavement Preventative Maintenance Project, a citywide effort to preserve and extend the life of Rohnert Park's roadways. The project covers various streets throughout the city and includes a combination of pavement treatments, slurry seals, cape seals, crack sealing, and grind and overlays Additionally, the project will include striping updates and pedestrian curb ramp replacements to improve accessibility. Maintaining roads before they fail is far more cost-effective than waiting until full reconstruction is required. The treatments used in this project are designed to seal and protect the existing pavement surface, slow deterioration, and extend the useful life of Rohnert Park's streets at a fraction of the cost of full repaving
This project is funded by the Road Maintenance and Rehabilitation Account, Gas Tax HUTA, Measure M, Go Sonoma, General Fund Infrastructure, and Bond III.

WHAT'S HAPPENING WITH YOUR WATER SYSTEM
Behind the scenes, the City's Public Works team is making ongoing improvements to the infrastructure that delivers safe, reliable water to homes and businesses across Rohnert Park. Here is a look at two projects currently underway.
UPGRADING HOW THE CITY DISINFECTS YOUR DRINKING WATER
At the City's well site on Enterprise Drive, crews recently removed a large highpressure tank that was part of the water disinfection process. The tank, which held a mix of water and compressed air, worked by giving water enough contact time with disinfectant before it reached residents It did the job well, but as the City moves forward with plans to expand its Public Works facility at that site, the tank needed to come out to make room.
In its place, the City is switching to a direct injection system that adds disinfectant precisely and efficiently, with equipment that automatically adjusts based on how much water is flowing at any given moment Residents will notice no difference in their water quality the outcome is the same safe, treated drinking water, delivered through a more modern and space-efficient process. The removal work was completed by local contractor Bohan Canelis General Engineering.
GETTINGSMARTERABOUTHOWTHE CITYMONITORSWATERFLOW
The City is installing new flow monitoring equipment at the locations where Rohnert Park receives water from the Sonoma County Water Agency. These monitors work by measuring the pressure on both sides of a valve, along with how far open the valve is, to calculate exactly how much water is moving through the system at any moment.
That real-time data will feed into the City's remote monitoring software, which allows water system staff to check on pumps, pressure levels, and flow rates from a central location and make adjustments without having to be on-site. Think of it as a dashboard for the water system, giving the team a much clearer picture of how things are running across the city and helping them catch problems early. Four units are already installed and active The remaining sites do not have access to electrical power, so batteryoperated units are on order and will be installed soon.
MORELIBRARYPARKINGLOTSPACES REOPENED!
You may have noticed that many of the parking spaces in the parking lot near the Rohnert Park-Cotati Regional Library have now been reopened! We thank the community for their patience and understanding as crews put the finishing touches on the solar canopy at the City Center Parking Lot.
This privately owned and maintained infrastructure, along with a 20-year agreement, allows the City to purchase power from GreenSkies Clean Energy at a reduced rate. Excess power is sold by GreenSkies Clean Energy to PG&E in order to fund the construction of the project.
The two recently installed solar canopies at Callinan Sports and Fitness Center, Spreckels Performing Arts Center, and the City Center Parking Lot are expected to produce more than 500,000kW hours of power annually, offsetting the City’s usage at these sites by as much as 99%.

MEET YOUR CITY COUNCIL
The Rohnert Park City Council is elected by the Rohnert Park voters to serve for four-year terms There are five members of the Council, including a Mayor and a Vice Mayor.
The City Council adopts goals and policies during Council meetings to set the direction for the City. The Council approves and adopts the City's Financial Plans, General Plan and the Capital Improvement Plan
The City Council appoints the City Manager, the City Attorney, and members of City Commissions, Committees, and Boards.
