One of the best things about Rohnert Park is how much our community cares Residents here are thoughtful, engaged, and passionate about keeping our city safe, welcoming, and a great place to live. That community spirit is exactly why we launched our Community Priorities Survey.

The survey helps us understand what services and investments matter most to you as we plan for the future And so far, your feedback has been loud and clear: protecting essential services is a top priority. Residents have emphasized the importance of strong emergency response, fire protection, safe drinking water, clean and wellmaintained parks, and keeping the City financially healthy.

Public safety continues to be front of mind. Our integrated public safety model, where officers are trained in both fire and police response, allows us to respond quickly and effectively when you need help. Survey responses reinforce how much our community values fast response times and highly trained professionals.

Parks also earned major love. With 28 parks across Rohnert Park, these spaces are where families gather, kids play, and neighbors connect. Residents want to see continued care for playgrounds, restrooms, sports fields, lighting, and park infrastructure so these spaces stay clean, safe, and fun for everyone.

More than 400 residents have already shared their input, and we are grateful for every response. If you have not taken the survey yet, there is still time. It only takes a few minutes and is one of the easiest ways to have a direct say in the future of our city.

MUNICIPAL CLERKS WEEK

MAY 3-9, 2026

Professional Municipal Clerks Week, observed May 3–9, 2026, recognizes and celebrates Municipal Clerks for the essential services they provide to their communities and for serving as a critical link between residents, the City Council, and all levels of local government within the City of Rohnert Park

Though it is one of the oldest roles in local government, the work of Municipal Clerks often happens behind the scenes and is not always widely understood In reality, Municipal Clerks play a central role in helping local government function effectively, accurately, and transparently.

The responsibilities of the Clerk require extensive knowledge of legal procedures, public administration, and interpersonal communication. Professor William Bennett Munro, author of one of the first textbooks on municipal administration, once wrote, “No other office in municipal service has so many contacts. It serves the Mayor, the City Council, the City Manager, and all administrative departments, without exception All of them call upon it, almost daily, for some service or information.”

In the City of Rohnert Park, the City Clerk oversees democratic processes, public access to city records, and legislative actions, helping ensure transparency and accountability. The City Clerk also serves as a compliance officer for federal, state, and local laws, including the Political Reform Act, the Brown Act, and the Public Records Act. In addition to supporting the City Council, the City Clerk serves as Secretary of the Rohnert Park Financing Authority and the City of Rohnert Park Foundation. The office also serves as staff liaison for all City standing committees and oversees recruitment for City commissions, committees, and boards.

The City recognizes and appreciates the dedicated service of Sylvia Lopez Cuevas, City Clerk and Elections Official; Elizabeth Machado, Assistant City Clerk; and Karen Mack, Office Assistant. Their work helps ensure the integrity, accessibility, and effectiveness of local government in Rohnert Park.

Rohnert Park marked Earth Day with a ribbon cutting on April 22 celebrating the launch of California’s first automated Drop+Go CRV recycling pod at Flipside Thrift, located at 6591 Commerce Boulevard. The new pod offers residents a convenient way to redeem eligible beverage containers while supporting a broader effort focused on sustainability, accessibility, and community impact The milestone also highlights the work of United Cerebral Palsy of the North Bay, a locally run nonprofit dedicated to enhancing quality of life for people with cerebral palsy and other disabilities throughout Sonoma, Napa, and Solano counties.

More than just a recycling station, the Drop+Go pod reflects how innovative partnerships can benefit both people and the environment Through United Cerebral Palsy of the North Bay’s social enterprise model, this initiative helps make recycling easier while advancing inclusion, opportunity, and community well-being. Rohnert Park is proud to be the first city in California to host this program and grateful to United Cerebral Palsy of the North Bay, Flipside Thrift, and all those who helped bring this first-of-its-kind resource to the community.

HEALTHTOGOBRINGSFREEESSENTIAL RESOURCESTOROHNERTPARK

Rohnert Park joined Sonoma County and community partners on April 22 for a ribbon cutting celebrating Health To Go, a new public health resource now available at 6800 Hunter Drive. Located outdoors between the Senior Center and the Rohnert Park People Services Center, the machine provides free, 24/7 access to essential health and safety supplies, including Narcan, COVID tests, menstrual products, hygiene kits, and more. The program is designed to reduce barriers, protect privacy, and make important resources easier to access when residents need them most.

Health To Go reflects a practical, people-centered approach to public health by offering free supplies in a discreet and convenient way, right in the community.

Rohnert Park is proud to be one of the locations selected for this initiative and grateful to the Sonoma County Department of Health Services and all partners who helped bring it to the city. Residents can visit the Health To Go machine anytime at 6800 Hunter Drive, and those interested in other locations throughout Sonoma County can learn more at sonomacounty gov/vendingmachines

In Rohnert Park, this includes the dedicated employees who work across departments to provide essential services such as public safety, infrastructure maintenance, parks and recreation, community development, and administrative support.

While much of this work happens behind the scenes, it is critical to the City’s dayto-day operations. Public employees help ensure services run smoothly, respond to challenges, and support the needs of residents, businesses, and visitors alike

At its most recent meeting, the Rohnert Park City Council proclaimed May 2026 as Bike Month and May 14, 2026, as Bike to Work Day, highlighting the many benefits of bicycling for health, sustainability, and everyday transportation. The City also recognized the important work of the Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition, which has long supported bicycle education, safety programs, and community events that encourage people of all ages to ride.

Throughout the month, residents are encouraged to get out and ride—whether commuting, running errands, or simply enjoying the City’s trails and neighborhoods Even small trips by bike can make a meaningful difference for both personal well-being and the environment.

To celebrate Bike to Work Day, City staff will host a morning energizer station on Thursday, May 14, from 6 to 9 a.m. at the corner of Rohnert Park Expressway and the SMART Path. Riders are invited to stop by, connect with others, and be part of the energy surrounding Bike Month

Whether you’re a regular rider or just getting started, May is a great time to get moving and experience Rohnert Park on two wheels.

The City of Rohnert Park is proud to recognize National Public Works Week, taking place May 17 to 23, 2026 This year’s theme, “Rooted in Service, Powered by Community,” highlights the essential role public works professionals play in supporting the daily life, safety, and well-being of our community

Public works touches nearly every part of city life. Some of that work is easy to see, like maintaining streets, sidewalks, signage, and public spaces. Other important services happen quietly behind the scenes, such as caring for water systems, sewer infrastructure, storm drainage, and the many essential systems that help keep a city running smoothly. Together, these efforts form the foundation of a strong, connected, and thriving community.

National Public Works Week is an opportunity to recognize the dedicated professionals whose work often goes unnoticed, but whose impact is felt every day. In Rohnert Park, our Public Works team helps maintain the infrastructure and public spaces residents rely on, supporting quality of life across the city through steady, skilled, and service-driven work.

The City of Rohnert Park extends its sincere appreciation to our Public Works staff for their commitment to serving the community. Their work helps keep our city safe, functional, and welcoming, and National Public Works Week is a meaningful time to thank them for all they do.

This year’s National Public Works Week theme, “Rooted in Service, Powered by Community,” recognizes the deep, lasting impact public works professionals have on everyday life.

From maintaining streets, storm drainage, wastewater systems, public buildings, parks, and right-of-way areas to supporting emergency response and essential city operations, public works helps power the systems and services our community relies on every day.

ALICIAPARKPLAYGROUND RENOVATIONPROJECT

We’re excited to share that the City of Rohnert Park is beginning implementation of the Parks Master Plan, with the first major focus on Alicia Park!

This important project is made possible thanks to Sonoma County voters who passed Measure M, Parks for All, in 2018. Measure M provides dedicated funding to protect and improve parks throughout Sonoma County, helping local communities invest in safe, welcoming, and accessible outdoor spaces.

Alicia Park has long served as a neighborhood gathering place for residents, families, and park users. As part of this upcoming improvement project, the City will remove the park’s outdated play structures and install a brand-new inclusive play structure in a new, more central location within the park This updated playground will create a more welcoming and accessible space for children of all abilities to play, explore, and connect.

The project will also replace the existing picnic and BBQ area in a new location designed to provide additional space for more users. These improvements will help make the park more comfortable and functional for families, neighbors, and community members gathering for everyday use, celebrations, and outdoor meals. In addition to the playground and picnic area improvements, the City will replace the park’s irrigation system with a smart irrigation control system.

This upgrade will improve maintenance and operations while supporting more efficient use of water, helping ensure Alicia Park remains a healthy and enjoyable green space for years to come.

The total project cost is estimated at $1.9 million. Design work is currently underway and is expected to continue through May 2026. The project is anticipated to go out to bid between May and June 2026, with a City Council contract award scheduled for July 14, 2026. Construction of the playground and picnic area is expected to take place from July through October 2026, followed by a playground ribbon cutting in October 2026. Irrigation construction is currently anticipated to occur from November 2026 through January 2027.

This project represents an important first step in putting the City’s Parks Master Plan into action and investing in the public spaces that help make Rohnert Park a great place to live, gather, and play

The project will improve Alicia Park by creating a more inclusive playground, expanding picnic and BBQ opportunities, improving park operations, and supporting long-term maintenance through smarter infrastructure. We look forward to sharing updates as this exciting project moves forward!

SUNRISE PARK – WATER FOUNTAIN REPLACEMENT

The Parks Department recently replaced the water fountain at Sunrise Park near the basketball courts. The previous fountain was old, outdated, and leaking, so this replacement is a welcome improvement for residents and park users.

The City has long appreciated our partnership with the Rohnert Park Rotary, and this project is another great example of their ongoing commitment to our community. Thanks to their generous donation, visitors now have access to a new water fountain while enjoying the park, playing basketball, or spending time outdoors.

Projects like this may seem simple, but they make a real difference in the everyday experience of our parks. Thank you to the Rohnert Park Rotary and our Parks Department for working together to help keep Rohnert Park welcoming, functional, and community-centered.

LYDIAPARK-PICNICBENCH

The Parks Division built a Redwood Picnic Bench for Lydia Park.

Staff members from the Parks team recently rebuilt a picnic table for Lydia Park They repainted the existing metal frame and fabricated a new tabletop and benches using redwood lumber that was milled from trees previously removed within the City. The lumber was slabbed and planed by staff before being crafted into the finished table.

This project is a great example of the Parks team’s resourcefulness and craftsmanship By repurposing salvaged redwood, the team was able to extend the life of existing infrastructure while also supporting our sustainability goals through material reuse and carbon sequestration. It also reflects the pride our staff take in maintaining and improving our parks for the community.

A new swing set was installed at Sunrise Park

2025/26 CITYWIDE PAVEMENT MAINTENANCE PROJECT

The City of Rohnert Park will begin the 2025 Pavement Maintenance Project, which includes pavement repairs and roadway resurfacing on major corridors throughout the city. This work is part of the City’s ongoing efforts to improve safety and extend the life of local streets.

Work is scheduled to take place from spring 2026 through fall 2026. Major corridor improvements are planned in the following areas: Golf Course Drive, Snyder Lane, Dowdell Avenue, Commerce Boulevard, East Cotati Avenue, Bodway Parkway, and Camino Colegio. The project is citywide, and while these major corridors are specifically identified, additional neighborhood streets will also undergo pavement maintenance. Residents are encouraged to plan ahead and use caution when traveling through active work zones. The City appreciates the community’s patience as these improvements are completed.

In moments of crisis, knowing the right number to call matters While 9-1-1 is essential for emergencies that require immediate response, many situations call for a different kind of support. That is where 2-1-1 comes in. Available 24 hours a day, 2-1-1 connects residents to trusted local information, services, and resources when help is needed but the situation is not an emergency.

Calling 9-1-1 should always be reserved for urgent situations such as medical emergencies, fires, crimes in progress, or immediate threats to safety For everything else, 2-1-1 serves as a direct line to community support. Residents can receive assistance with housing and shelter, food resources, disaster relief and preparedness, tax preparation help, immigration services, mental health support, services for seniors and veterans, and more. By making the right call, residents help ensure emergency lines remain available for those who need them most

United Way’s 2-1-1 service is free, confidential, and available by phone or text. Residents can dial 2-1-1 or text their ZIP code to 898-211 to connect with a trained community specialist who can help guide them to the right resources. Knowing when to call 2-1-1 helps strengthen our community, reduces strain on emergency services, and ensures neighbors get the support they need, when they need it

MEET YOUR CITY COUNCIL

The Rohnert Park City Council is elected by the Rohnert Park voters to serve for four-year terms There are five members of the Council, including a Mayor and a Vice Mayor.

The City Council adopts goals and policies during Council meetings to set the direction for the City. The Council approves and adopts the City's Financial Plans, General Plan and the Capital Improvement Plan

The City Council appoints the City Manager, the City Attorney, and members of City Commissions, Committees, and Boards.
