One of the best things about Rohnert Park is how much our community cares Residents here are thoughtful, engaged, and passionate about keeping our city safe, welcoming, and a great place to live. That community spirit is exactly why we launched our Community Priorities Survey.
The survey helps us understand what services and investments matter most to you as we plan for the future And so far, your feedback has been loud and clear: protecting essential services is a top priority. Residents have emphasized the importance of strong emergency response, fire protection, safe drinking water, clean and wellmaintained parks, and keeping the City financially healthy.
Public safety continues to be front of mind. Our integrated public safety model, where officers are trained in both fire and police response, allows us to respond quickly and effectively when you need help. Survey responses reinforce how much our community values fast response times and highly trained professionals.
Parks also earned major love. With 28 parks across Rohnert Park, these spaces are where families gather, kids play, and neighbors connect. Residents want to see continued care for playgrounds, restrooms, sports fields, lighting, and park infrastructure so these spaces stay clean, safe, and fun for everyone.
More than 400 residents have already shared their input, and we are grateful for every response. If you have not taken the survey yet, there is still time. It only takes a few minutes and is one of the easiest ways to have a direct say in the future of our city.

Events like these are all about creating space for real conversation, because hearing directly from the people who live here matters.

There is something pretty special about seeing a community come together with dirt on their hands and smiles on their faces, all for a good cause. That is exactly what happened on Saturday, March 7, when residents, students, City staff, and local leaders gathered at the Rohnert Park Community Center to celebrate Arbor Day in the most hands-on way possible
After Mayor Emily Sanborn’s official Arbor Day proclamation at the February 24 City Council meeting, the celebration moved from words to action. Volunteers of all ages showed up ready to dig in, and by the end of the morning, more than 30 new trees had been planted. That is not just a lovely number. It is a lasting investment in cleaner air, cooler neighborhoods, healthier wildlife habitat, and a greener future for Rohnert Park.
What made this year’s event feel especially meaningful was the spirit of togetherness. Kids beamed with pride, neighbors connected, and community members worked side by side with City staff while learning about how to properly plant and care for trees It was simple, joyful, productive, and honestly pretty heartwarming to watch.
Trees do so much for a city over time, but events like this remind us that community care is what helps those benefits take root in the first place. Our urban forest does not grow by accident. It grows because people show up, pitch in, and believe in making their city better one tree at a time.
To everyone who participated, thank you for helping make this our most successful Arbor Day yet. You helped plant something that will keep growing for generations, and that is something worth celebrating.

Since making Rohnert Park her home in 1978, Rosie has brought people together through music, celebration, and connection As the founder of Musique Affairs and a familiar face at school dances, weddings, reunions, civic events, nonprofit gatherings, and more, she has helped create so many of the moments that become treasured memories.
For decades, DJ Rosie has added joy, style, and heart to events across Sonoma County, becoming a beloved part of community life in The Friendly City Her legacy is not only found in the music she plays, but in the warmth, unity, and happiness she has helped create for generations of residents. We are proud to celebrate Rosie and thank her for sharing her talents so generously. Congratulations, DJ Rosie, and thank you for helping make Rohnert Park a more joyful place.
PROJECTSPOTLIGHT:LIBRARYBUILDING SYSTEMSREPLACEMENT
Each month, we shine a light on the projects improving Rohnert Park’s streets, parks, water systems, and public spaces so you can see what’s happening around town and what’s coming next.
The Rohnert Park Cotati Library is receiving many exciting upgrades to its facility. The Building Systems Replacement Project will replace all of the interior and exterior building lighting with lighting that integrates time-based, daylight-based, sensor-based, and manual lighting controls through its connected, intelligent digital devices It offers greater functionality while helping to reduce energy consumption and energy code compliance There will also be a new fire alarm system designed to detect fire, smoke, heat, and systems malfunctions, and initiate appropriate alarms. A new rooftop Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system with external ducting will be installed with Variable Air Volume (VAV) systems that are energy-efficient, multi-zone commercial systems that maintain comfortable temperatures by varying airflow There were 20 prime contractors at the Mandatory Site Walk, on March 17, interested in bidding on the project. The project is in partnership with the State of California and the Sonoma County Library.

The construction of the Trail to Crane Creek Regional Park Project is approximately 75% complete and is expected to be finished by late summer or early fall 2026 The new trail will extend the Copeland Creek Trail from the west end of the Sonoma State University campus to Crane Creek Regional Park. The project includes 1.49 miles of new trail, three new bridges, and a new traffic signal at the intersection of Petaluma Hill Road and Laurel Drive. Once completed, the project will provide additional outdoor recreational opportunities for the community, encourage the use and appreciation of park resources, improve non-vehicle access to Crane Creek Regional Park, and enhance understanding of the natural, cultural, and historical resources of Sonoma County. This is a collaborative project involving the City of Rohnert Park, the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria, Sonoma County Regional Parks, and the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District.

What's going on? To reduce energy costs, the City of Rohnert Park is installing solar arrays in the parking lot adjacent to the library.
What about the party on the plaza summer event series? The party on the plaza summer event series will be held at the community center for the foreseeable future.
Will the library be open? Yes, the library will remain open.
What type of construction project is this? We are installing solar photovoltaic canopies in the parking lot to promote clean energy initiatives.
How long will the fencing be up? The fencing will be up while construction activities are ongoing from March 2026 until August 2026, but will be periodically scaled back as each canopy is completed The city and its construction partner are committed to minimizing impacts to community members as much as possible
How much power are the solar canopies expected to produce? The solar canopies are expected to produce more than 500,000kw hours of power annually, offsetting the city's usage at this site by as much as 99%.
Will trees be removed? If so, will trees be replanted? Yes, trees will be removed to allow installation of the solar canopies and new trees will be replanted as part of our ongoing Urban Forest Management Plan.

The City of Rohnert Park is currently preparing for construction of a new singlestory Public Works utilities administration building, and parking lot located at the City’s Wastewater Pump Station, at 201 J Rogers Lane. The new facility will allow all of Utility Operations staff to be together on site, streamlining communication and operational coordination for the Division! Construction is anticipated to take 12 months, weather depending Public access to the Animal Shelter located next door at 301 J Roger Lane, will remain open throughout construction.

2025CITYWIDEPAVEMENT MAINTENANCEPROJECT
The City of Rohnert Park will begin the 2025 Pavement Maintenance Project, which includes pavement repairs and roadway resurfacing on major corridors throughout the city This work is part of the City’s ongoing efforts to improve safety and extend the life of local streets.
Work is scheduled to take place from spring 2026 through fall 2026. Major corridor improvements are planned in the following areas: Golf Course Drive, Snyder Lane, Dowdell Avenue, Commerce Boulevard, East Cotati Avenue, Bodway Parkway, and Camino Colegio The project is citywide, and while these major corridors are specifically identified, additional neighborhood streets will also undergo pavement maintenance. Residents are encouraged to plan ahead and use caution when traveling through active work zones. The City appreciates the community’s patience as these improvements are completed.

The City of Rohnert Park invites community members to take part in this year’s budget study sessions and gain a better understanding of how local funds are planned, prioritized, and invested.
The City’s budget is a public document, and these study sessions are designed to make the process more accessible, informative, and transparent for residents. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the proposed Fiscal Year 2026/27 budget, hear about key priorities for the year ahead, and better understand the financial factors shaping important decisions. The two budget workshops will be held at Rohnert Park City Hall, 130 Avram Avenue, on April 14 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and April 16 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.
As costs continue to rise in many areas that affect cities across California, Rohnert Park is taking a thoughtful and responsible approach to long-term financial planning. The City remains focused on protecting essential services while continuing to invest in public safety, infrastructure, and the programs and amenities that support a strong quality of life.

Rohnert Park homeowners can now apply for up to $10,500 to replace wood-burning stoves, inserts, or fireplaces with cleaner, all-electric heat pumps through the Bay Area Air District’s Clean HEET Program.
Heat pumps provide both heating and cooling in one system, use less energy than traditional systems, and help improve indoor air quality by reducing wood smoke pollution.
Application Period: January 13 to July 14, 2026
Funding is first-come, first-served while funds last.
Who Can Apply:
All Bay Area homeowners with indoor, operational wood-burning devices manufactured before 2020. Devices must be removed and recycled. Heat pumps must be installed by a California-licensed contractor This is a reimbursement program, and projects cannot begin before approval.

Free Tax Preparation
The AARPFoundation Tax-Aide program provides free taxpreparation and filing, with a focus on taxpayers who are over 50 with low to moderate income. AARP will be at the Rohnert Park Senior Center every Friday from February 6-April 10. There will be no tax aid on 2/13 or 4/3. This free tax preparation service is by appointment only. The Rohnert Park City Council is elected by the Rohnert Park voters to serve for four-year terms There are five members of the Council, including a Mayor and a Vice Mayor.
The City Council adopts goals and policies during Council meetings to set the direction for the City. The Council approves and adopts the City's Financial Plans, General Plan and the Capital Improvement Plan
The City Council appoints the City Manager, the City Attorney, and members of City Commissions, Committees, and Boards.
