HONORINGOURHEROES: VETERANSDAYCELEBRATION

Join us this Veterans Day as Rohnert Park comes together to honor the brave men and women who have served and those who continue to serve in the United States Armed Forces. This annual celebration invites the community to pause, reflect, and give thanks for the freedoms we enjoy today.

Hosted by Mayor Gerard Giudice, the ceremony will include:

A partial Avenue of the Flags display by the American Legion

A presentation of colors by the U.S. Coast Guard

Performances by the Rohnert Park Community Band and Chorale

A flag retirement ceremony by the Girl Scouts

Remarks from a veteran keynote speaker

The City will also recognize local heroes through the Military Banner Program, coordinated by Andy Durkee.

This year’s event features a new addition: the Field of Flags, created by a Lawrence Jones Middle School student to raise funds for Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Each flag represents a veteran’s service and sacrifice The display will be on the Community Center lawn from October 29 through Veterans Day.

To sponsor a flag, scan the QR code at the display or visit support.dav.org/participants/ExLStudents. Donations made by November 3 will ensure new flags are placed in time for the holiday

This event is free and open to the public.

HALLOWEEN CARNIVAL&DÍADE LOSMUERTOS CELEBRATIONBRINGS THECOMMUNITY TOGETHER

Rohnert Park’s annual Halloween Carnival and Día de los Muertos Celebration brought big smiles and a few friendly frights to the Community Center on October 25!

Even with a few sprinkles, families came out in full force to enjoy a day filled with live entertainment, carnival games, animal encounters, and delicious food. From Perry the Magician’s high-energy show to dazzling Ballet Folklórico and Aztec dance performances, the day was packed with excitement and culture for all ages.

One of the most meaningful features of this year’s event was the Community Altar, presented in partnership with Latino Alliance. Residents contributed photos, flowers, and personal mementos to create a stunning ofrenda honoring loved ones who have passed. The altar served as a shared space for reflection and connection, beautifully blending community spirit with cultural tradition

The City extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined the celebration and helped make the day such a success. Events like these remind us why Rohnert Park truly is the Friendly City where community, culture, and celebration come together in the most spirited way.

WHATISACOMMUNITYALTAR ANDDÍADELOSMUERTOS?

Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a Mexican tradition that celebrates the lives of loved ones who have passed away. Observed from October 31 to November 2, it’s a joyful and colorful holiday rooted in the belief that the spirits of the departed return to visit the living during this time. Families and communities honor them with offerings of food, flowers, photos, and candles creating a space that celebrates life, memory, and the bonds that never fade.

The Community Altar, or ofrenda, is a collective space for remembrance and connection. Each item placed on the altar whether a photo, a marigold, or a small keepsake represents love and gratitude for someone who is missed. By creating a shared altar, Rohnert Park comes together to celebrate culture, community, and the universal experience of remembering those who have shaped our lives It’s a reflection of unity, diversity, and community

CITYOFROHNERTPARK HOLIDAYCLOSURE

CARING FOROUR CITY’S CANOPY

Rohnert Park is home to more than 16,000 public trees, each one quietly working to make our city a greener, healthier, and more beautiful place. From shading our neighborhoods to keeping our air clean, these trees are a living investment in our community’s well-being.

This season, we’re especially grateful for the extra help from our Seasonal Maintenance Assistants, Victor Figueroa and Michael Palumbo, who’ve been supporting our City Arborist with essential maintenance projects. Together, they’ve completed clearance pruning along the Copeland Creek Path and performed a Redwood elevation prune on Snyder Avenue, helping to improve safety, visibility, and the overall health of our urban forest

The City of Rohnert Park employs a Certified Arborist to oversee public tree care, including planting, pruning, and ongoing maintenance across our parks, streets, and facilities. We place a high value on our trees and take pride in responding to resident requests for treerelated services.

If you notice concerns such as tree root issues, sidewalk or curb buckling, streetlight obstruction, low or invasive branches, or fallen limbs from Citymaintained trees, please call (707) 588-3300. For emergencies involving trees, contact the Public Safety Dispatcher at (707) 584-2600.

Our city’s trees do more than beautify they connect us, protect us, and remind us of the care that goes into making Rohnert Park truly the Friendly City

FIELDUPDATESAND SEASONALMAINTENANCE

As part of our ongoing commitment to keeping Rohnert Park’s parks and recreation spaces safe and enjoyable, Colegio Vista Park Baseball Field will be closed for turf renovation beginning October 23, 2025. The field is expected to reopen in early 2026, once winter weather subsides and conditions are suitable for play.

The Sunrise Park All-Weather Soccer Field remains open, and all other grass and dirt fields are currently open unless standing water is present, in which case the field should be considered closed.

Field conditions are typically updated on our website by 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Following significant rain, fields are usually closed for 1–2 days to allow for proper drainage and to prevent damage to the turf.

We appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation as we work to keep our fields in top shape for everyone to enjoy

OCTOBER19THROUGH25,2025 WASUNITEDAGAINSTHATEWEEK

Mayor Gerard Giudice has proclaimed October 19–25, 2025, as United Against Hate Week in the City of Rohnert Park. The proclamation calls on all residents, businesses, schools, and organizations to come together, reject hate, and promote kindness, inclusion, and respect for all

United Against Hate Week began as a grassroots poster campaign in the Bay Area in 2017, when communities in Berkeley and San Francisco responded to white-supremacist rallies by launching a message of unity: We Stand United Against Hate What started as local posters quickly grew into a statewide movement supported by the California Civil Rights Department and the California vs Hate coalition. Today, hundreds of cities across California join in each year to host art exhibits, discussions, school programs, and community events that amplify the call for safety, acceptance, and understanding.

By joining this movement, Rohnert Park reaffirms its commitment to compassion and unity reminding us that the strength of our community lies in how we treat one another. Together, we stand united against hate, and for a city where everyone can live, work, and thrive in dignity and respect
