It is 40 years since the Lighthouse Club Hong Kong Branch was formed in 1986 and 70 years since the Lighthouse Club was formed in the United Kingdom in 1956.

Over the past 40 years since the Lighthouse Club came to Hong Kong, it has developed internationally with constituted branches in Australia, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines and Singapore. There are also members in New Zealand, South Africa and Vietnam in addition to previous and ongoing development in the United Kingdom, Ireland and the Netherlands.

2026 marks a remarkable milestone as The Lighthouse Club Hong Kong Branch celebrates 40 years of fostering unity, innovation, and excellence in the construction industry to build a stronger, more collaborative community. To celebrate 40 years in Hong Kong, a series of events has been arranged between 28th and 29th May 2026.

International Construction Conference –Advancing the Frontiers of Construction Safety, Sustainability, Innovation and Excellence for World Cities

Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre28th and 29th May 2026 (2 full days)

This will be a hybrid event with local and overseas speakers and attendees from both the local and international arena.

We wish to pose the question: Where will the Construction Industry be in 20 Years’ Time?

Let us explore new directions and innovations in urban and rural developments, sustainability & ESG issues, procurement and project delivery challenges, ethics and safety culture, as well as insightful sharing and case studies by policy makers, project owners, contractors, consultants, regulators, academia, researchers etc.

This International Construction Conference will provide:

• unique networking and marketing opportunities for developers, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, lawyers, trade associations, professional institutions and individuals within and associated with the construction industry; and

• continuing professional development opportunities for individuals who need to further develop their capabilities in order to be better prepared to deal with the global economic challenges faced by the construction industry, through increased efficiency, innovation and motivation.

The Lighthouse Club International Design for Safety Award has been established in recognition of the individual engineering designer that has contributed the most to eliminating, reducing and mitigating the health and safety risks of their design during construction, cleaning and operation, maintenance and eventual modification/removal of the asset and is open to team or individual architectural and engineering designers employed by architects, engineering consultants, contractors, suppliers or clients organization in the construction industry.

The surpluses from the Lighthouse Club 40th Anniversary Events will directly benefit the following:

The Lighthouse Club International Benevolent Trust is devoted to:

• relieving poverty and financial need suffered by persons employed or formerly employed within the construction industry internationally and the dependents of such persons, where such persons, widows, widowers, children and dependents are suffering hardship as a result of accident, disability or ill-health;

• providing or assisting with the provision and advancement of education for persons employed or formerly employed within the construction industry, and the dependents of such persons, where poverty is preventing such persons and dependents from fulfilling their education; and

• providing or assisting with the provision and advancement of education, being education and training in the construction industry, for persons who desire to obtain such education and training, but where poverty is preventing such persons from fulfilling such education and training.

James Battersby Lighthouse Club Educational Trust is devoted to helping young people connected with the construction industry. The Trust’s objectives are to assist in the training in the industry of disadvantaged young people, or to assist with the education of children who are suffering hardship as a result of the death, injury or illness of a parent or guardian employed in the construction industry.

Both of these Hong Kong registered charities operate on a 100% efficiency basis. That is, that all of the monies donated by any individual or organisation are available to the beneficiaries. There are no overhead expenses, salaries or the like borne by either of the charities which are operated by volunteers.
