Made by students from The Netherlands and Denmark exchange 2018/2019
Intro by Vibe, Isa, Merel and Renske
your best friend or worst enemy. Our best advice is that we think that you should come to another country with an open mind and first decide what you think about it after you have been there. The arrival from the Danish people point of view:
We have been participating an exchange program with people from the Netherlands and Denmark in 2018/2019. First the Danish students went to the Netherlands in October, and now in April the Dutch students visit Denmark.
we were all very confused because there was a mix-up in the arrival time. It was not even all the Danes that had arrived at the school, when the Dutch people arrived. We were all very nervous because it finally hit us that “this was happening”. In the beginning when we met the Dutch students it was a bit awkward but after some time it started to feel sort of normal.

Expectations: When going to another country you would usually think that there will be certain expectations about the culture, food, people etc. That is one thing that can be
When we arrived at Denmark we were amazed by the nature. Most of us have not seen the ocean in a very long time and here it was. Then we arrived at the school, which is beautiful. And everyone was very nice. at first it was a bit awkward but after a few minutes it was really nice, and we already had some fun.

The old town hall We have visited the old town hall in Ebeltoft The town hall is very old. It was build in 1789, that is over 200 years ago.
to this could be that they are not christianize.
History The town hall was first used as a prison in the basement, and a place for the administration of the town to meet. The person who kept the pri soner also lived in the town hall. In the basement there is about three rooms or prison cells, and upstairs there were two prison cells So in total they could have about 5 prisoners at one time. But of cour -se the prisoners in the town hall did their time, so they got back to living their lives, and new prisoners came. The prison stopped after a short time, be-
cause there came new rules about having prisoners. Marriage Today the old town hall is used as a museum and many people get married there. Actually over 500 people gets married there every year. The reason they choose to get married at Ebeltoft old town hall, is because it is such a beautiful building, and many people fall in love with its charm. Many people also get married here, because they do not want to get married at a church. The reason
Our experience We have visited the old town hall. We think it is amazing how maintainned it is. The old town hall was just like walking into the 1700th century. We got a tour from one of the workers and she told us a lot of interesting stuff, about the time and how the prisoners were treated. We also got to see the old prison cells, which was really interesting, and we could really ima -gine, how it must be to be a prisoner back then. Specially because the cells were very cold and damped. Doors in Ebeltoft Made by: Femke, Annabel, Frida and Freja
The doors in Ebeltoft are very popular because they are very old and good kept. The design of some doors looks like the flag of Denmark (red and white). In the past few years the doors have been painted but it´s still the same design and material. They have a lot of colors and patterns just like the old days.
Behind all the doors were different stories, for example this green door. Behind this door lived a man called Cristian, the people in Ebeltoft called him crazy Cristian. But why? Cristian had married a wife, but the wife had already a daughter from another marriage. Cristian shouted over the streets BEAST when he wanted her to come and do chores. But then Cristian and the wife got another daughter and he called her Julie the loved. And she may work in the shop while the beast must do all the dirty work. The street is named after him, Crazy Cristian
There is a lot of old doors in Ebeltoft but this is the oldest door. You can see it´s old because the stairs are very used. You can see the red and white colours on the door it´s almost the same as the Danish flag. Behind the door is Pia´s shop called Hotsjok, she sells clothes and jewelry. The clothes are made of real leather it´s very exclusive.
There are a lot of differences between the doors. Some had a gold door handle to show other villagers that they are rich people. The poor couldn’t afford it and had just a regular brown or black door. So, the more colours, the richer you are.

Food from the wood The nature is beautiful, and the sun is shining. The food its good. Made by: Renate, Ilse, Josefine & Matilde.
If you look in the nature of Karpenhøj, you can see the history of the landscape. The national park has a lot of myths and ancient legends, that relate to the area, and tell about the giants under the Stable highs, the robbers in the Kalø forest, the monastery herbs that were used against all sorts of ills and the sacred springs in the landscape that people piled up to stay healed. National park Mols Bjerge is situated in one of the most hilly and varied ice age landscapes in Denmark.
While picking the plants you can enjoy the impressive view and look out over the hills. The clock is 11.30, and the wind whistles in your ears. Students are ready to help with the food. The food must be prepared to 50 people so there should be enough. There is warm around the fire. The sun shines a little bit, but not so much. It is really cheerful. A man divided us into teams, some of us have to find food in the nature, others have to cook or help with the fire. When you look out, from the house, can you see the sea, and the nature that are around you. You can feel the grass between your legs, and you can hear the branches, that break under your feet. You can feel the sun is warming on your hands. You can see and smell the flowers around you. You can hear laughing from people's lips. A
voice tells how to do, and what you can eat in the forest. When you can see the fire, you can smell the smoke that seeps up the face. The food is prepared and made on the fire. Its smells good of nature and fresh vegetables and fruits. The fire gives a magical light.
The new town hall in Syddjurs. Written by August, Cas, Sebastian and Tom.
The new town hall in Syddjurs In Ebeltoft we have seen both the old and new town hall. The new town hall is the political center of the municipality of Syddjurs. The town hall originally was a private hospital. The room which is now used for meetings between the political parties is the old surgery room. The mayor’s office was a patient’s room. Unfortunately, the hospital went bankrupt, leaving the building unused. Reason for the bankruptcy was not enough patients. The hospital was set up with the idea that German refugees from the Cold War would come to the hospital. Unfortunately, the Cold War ended and not a lot of Germans came after all. A new townhall Then, the municipality decided that it wanted to change the location of the town hall. They bought the building and turned it into what we now know as the new town hall. In the conference room, there are 27 seats, for 26
politicians and one for the mayor. On the left wing there are 13 seats for liberal and conservative parties, while on the right wing there is place for 13 social-democratic politicians. Political parties The biggest party on the side of the socialdemocrats is Socialdemokraterne. Venstre is the biggest party on the side of the liberals and conservatives. The mayor is Ole Bollesen (first picture from above), politician in the party of Socialdemokraterne. Ole is 68 years old and lives in Knebel. According to Riber Hog Anthonsen, a farmer but also politician, the meetings don’t take that long: On average the meetings take four hours. The parties meet once a month. Dutch vs Danish One of the biggest differrences between Dutch and Danish politics, is that the Dutch govern-ment has way more influence in local politics. The Danish government gives way more responsibilities to
local governments, like the municipality of Syddjurs. Facts 42.468 inhabitants live in Syddjurs, a province of 696,7 km2.
Our experience with street food Written by August, Cas, Sebastian and Tom. An old parking lot, full of little food stands with food from 30 countries like Japan, Mexico, India and even Uganda: Aarhus street food. Located in the center of Aarhus close to the train station, the building is a cultural hot spot. Around 1.500 people visit the old parking lot every day.
Why is it popular? One of the best parts about it, is that it is possible to eat food from different cultures, while still eating in the same “restaurant”. We interviewed a girl working there. On the question why she worked there she answered: “Because I had a separate year and a lot of young people work and come here, I liked it and I decided to stay working here”. She started working at the food center a few months after it opened, in December 2016. We asked another one of the stand-owners about his experience. “I have started
my place because it is a giant opportunity in my life, where I can do something I love and can earn money at the same time.” On the question when he started, he answered that he started just ten days ago. But what makes this place so cozy. It is probably a combination of the narrow alleys, the good smell, the heat and all the colored lights. And of course, when the hall is filled with people, the sound everywhere around you make the places really a friendly place. Besides all that, the colors of the stands make it a colorful place. The stands are made from sea containers in a lot of different colors: Yellow, green, red, white and blue. The place brings people together: People from different cultures, but also friends who like to eat together. The place is friendly, and the food is delicious. These things are probably what makes this place so successful.
Street food The idea of street food has become a big success in more countries and cities. In almost every city on the globe you can find at least one stand that sells food. Aarhus street food has the same experience, but a lot of different cultures in one place, instead of a single stand in a street. This success has spread quickly over the world. In Denmark are already three of these street-food-centers, including the one in Aarhus.
Poverty Walk Poverty walk is another view of the regular metropolis. Made by: Oliver Sasikaran, Malte Møller, Simone Kiggen, and Chelsey Paeshuijse Poverty walk is a walk in the regular metropolis but seen from a homeless’ perspective. The homeless guide takes you on a wan- dering around in the city, whilst he tells you a bit about his story, and how he ended up in this situation. The pros of having a homeless guide Having a homeless guide gives you a whole different experience, compared to having an ordinary guide. A homeless guide will give you all details of how it is being homeless, and the guide will not be hiding anything for you.

municate and understand each other easier than communicating with the other homeless. It is basically the same with the women and drug-dealers. If they were all put into one group, then they would have difficulties with understanding each other, and therefore they are separated. Although, that does not mean that they are not allowed to talk with the other groups, they are only separated for their own best.
Dave, the homeless guide Dave is one of the homeless guides in Aarhus. He origins from England, and he has a very unique story. Dave was facing five years in prison back in England, for robbing a bank. He decided to come to Denmark, because everybody knew he was criminal back in England. Dave became homeless when he lost his job, his mother died, and his girl-
friend broke up with him. This was too much for Dave, and he ended up on the streets.
Facts Dave gets app. paid 1.500 DKK for every tour Nearly ½ of the world’s population live on less than $2.50 a day. There is more than 100 mil. homeless people. There is more than 13.000 homeless people in Denmark.
ARoS Boy
What is ARoS? Aros is a beautiful art museum, perfect for social interaction, located in Aarhus, Denmark. Why is ARoS so popular? The museum is popular for several different reasons. Of course, the actual art exhibitions are loved by many, but the rainbow on the rooftop is a huge attraction as well. Then, the museum is also one of the biggest art museums in Northern Europe. Your rainbow panorama Your Rainbow Panorama, also known as just, “The Rainbow”, is a slightly new addition to the museum, as it opened in May 2011. The popular rainbow art work, was created by the worldfamous Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson. Your rainbow panorama is supposed to confuse you, making you question whether you stepped into an art work, or into the museum itself.
Our experience Most of the Dutch students were there for the first time. The museum is something they don’t have in the Netherlands, so it was all new for them. They really liked it though. The Danish students have been there multiple times, but they still liked it very much. The art in the museum changes a lot, so they also saw things they’ve never seen before. Interview Here are some opinions on Aros, from different students. Isa says, “I really liked it, and it was artsy, but some things were pretty weird.” Dirk says, “I saw a lot of things in the museum, and it was really nice. My favorite part was the rainbow.” Alberte says, “It was really beautiful, and you get some space to think in.” Ashwin says, “Boring.”
The boy is a sculpture of a boy only wearing underwear made by the Australian artist Ron Mueck, and it is one of the most famous art works. He is four meters tall, and weighs five hundred kilograms. As you can tell, he is a giant. He was created 1999, and is molded in fiberglass. Move! There was a large hall, with some sort of metal rollercoaster, for bowling balls, which were rolling on it. You could ‘pick’ a ball and follow it around different rooms. The rollercoaster went through walls and made some cool moves. Facts - Established in 1859. - The museum moved in 2004 to their recent location. - The name ARoS refers to the Old Danish name of the city Aarhus, Aros. - 20.700 km2 - Apart from only art, they also have a restaurant, a dining café and an art shop.

Kalø slotsruin Made by Oscar,Saif,Bart,Dirk
Kalø slotsruin is a old castle in Kalø, The Castle lies on a Island at kaløvig. The ruin has a historical (fortid). Not much of the castle is still remaining. Facts Kalø slotsruin lies a half kilometer away from the beach on an island. It was placed on the top of a hill so they could watch over the people. In 1518 the Swedish king Gustav vasa was taken as a prisoner of Kalø slotsruin, he was taken by king Christian the second of Denmark
The only thing that is remaining is the middle tower, the prison and the root of the outer walls. Kalø castle ruin is the remains of a royal castle, located in Kaløvig in the south coast of Djursland, about two kilometres from Rønde and about 20 km from Aarhus. History The royal castle Kalø Castle was founded by King Erik Menved in year 1313 as one of at Least four castles in Jutland. In the start he wanted it to be a safe and defensive home.
In 1660 absolutism came to Denmark. Absolutism is when the king rules everything himself. The castle was built at that time used as a fortress, the biggest fortress in Jutland. The king decided to make a new fortress place, and after that Kalø Castle had no meaning for the country and the people decided to leave the castle. Now it’s just an old ruin.
The last evening Tess, Sophie, Alberte and Nelia 04-04-2019
The buffet The last evening, we all got together. We had to bring food to make a buffet. At home we all made a dish to bring. The food was delicious, and we had a really good time. We think it was a super good idea that we all had a nice dinner together, as a close off thing. The Dutch people liked the Danish food and they enjoyed trying something new. We had starters and main dishes like Danish meatballs, pizza, salmon roles and so on. We also had some delicious desserts.
Sentiment The sentiment was so good, and also a bit weird because it was time to say goodbye. But everyone just enjoyed the last time we had together. We think everyone was a bit excited to see their families again. Everyone talked to each other, and people were not shy. It was actually a bit sad that we had to say goodbye already, because we were just getting to know each other.
Picture from the last Evening
Presentations Everyone just shortly showed their article to the rest of the class. The presentations representted the days we had together in the week and what we have done. The presentations were good, and it was nice to get some more facts about the things we saw.
Goodbye Around 10 o'clock the buffet and activities were done, and it was time for the Dutch students to go back to Holland. Everybody was full of eating all the food and felt very satisfied from the delicious meal. The Dutch students took their belongings and walked to the bus. They put their bags and luggage in the bus walked towards the Danish students to say goodbye.
It was a sentimental moment, because we might never see each other again. After saying the goodbyes, the Dutch students went into the bus and picked their seats. The busses engine went on and it drove off, de students waved at each other and the exchange was over.
Pictures from the week Under the week we have taken some pictures of what we have done. For example, pictures from the cities: Ebeltoft, Aarhus and Mols.
