Speech Day yesterday was the perfect end of the academic year, celebrating the successes and achievements of so many in our community. As well as seeing the Prize Winners and all of Year 13 cross the stage, the performance elements were lovely, adding reminders of some of the Performing Arts highlights of the year. Professor Suzie Imber, who is along-time friend of the School, spoke beautifully, and very many parents and guests have been in touch to say how impressed they were with the empowering and encouraging content of her address. An event like Speech Day brings into sharp focus how remarkable everything we do is, and I am incredibly proud of our entire community. Sports Day last Saturday was a fantastic event, and I am pleased that we were able to hold the event in the morning, so that we avoided most of the high temperatures we feared, and some records were broken along the way! The girls threw themselves into the competition, and also cheered each other on with gusto. It was also lovely to welcome back to Roedean over 200 Old Roedeanians on the day, and they had a wonderful time touring the School and reminiscing about their time here. Sports Day ended with a number of food trucks down on the Cricket pitch, and that was a great success, with dishes to cater to a variety of tastes. Thank you to the PE Department for everything that went into the preparation of Sports Day, to the Alumnae Office for organising the ORs, and to Grounds, Maintenance, and Housemen for lots of the set-up and take-down which happened without many of us seeing it!
Roedean at Harry Styles
At the start of the week, Years 9, 10, and 12 went on their postponed Thorpe Park trip – 215 and over 20 members of staff – although it was hot and really busy, they had a good time! Thank you again to my colleagues for organising the trip. On Tuesday, we marked Roedean World Pride Day, with a non-uniform day, a bake sale, and a lovely afternoon tea. This ran into Roechella, a new venture for the School – the Prefects ran a whole series of lawn games and Sponge the Teacher on the Football pitch, and this was followed by al fresco tea, and an Open Mic event on the field. Well done to everyone involved! I can hardly believe that another academic year has passed – together we have achieved so much! Good luck to those going to Moldova this evening – I know that they will have a wonderful experience. I wish you all a wonderful Summer holiday!
