Autumn Term Agent Newsletter

The Autumn Term is now in full swing, with lessons, fixtures, and activities up and running. It is lovely to see how all the new students have settled so well.

A Level Results Our Year 13 students achieved outstanding results across a range of subjects. We are very proud of the 100% Oxbridge success, as well as significant numbers pursuing STEM subjects at undergraduate level, including a large number going on to study Medicine and Veterinary Medicine - these include Flora, who will study Veterinary Medicine at Cambridge, and twins, Hannah and Mairi, who are both reading Medicine, at Sheffield and Oxford. In this respect, Roedean continues to buck the trend for girls’ education, with 43% choosing STEM subjects at university - these courses include Civil Engineering, Sustainable Built Environments, Actuarial Science, and Biochemistry. A third of students have achieved straight A*-A grades, and these include four who have straight A* grades: Julia, who performed Grieg’s Piano Concerto at the Brighton Festival Fringe, has five A* grades and will study Computer Science at Cambridge; Jemima, a weekly boarder from London, has three A*s, and will study Finance, Accounting and Management at Nottingham; Haewon, from Korea, who has three A*s, and will read Physics with Theoretical Physics at Imperial College, London; and Carrie, who achieved four A* grades and will read Architecture at Cambridge. Over three quarters of the cohort were awarded at least one A*-A grade.

The Creative and Performing Arts have also enjoyed remarkable success across five A Levels on offer, with 94% of all results awarded at A* or A grade. Among this number are Alice and Fola, who have highlycoveted unconditional places to study Fashion at Kingston University, Galina, one of the outgoing Heads of School, will study Classical Clarinet at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, and Twinkie and Mackenzie, who will study Architecture and Fine Art, both at University College London.

GCSE Results Our Year 11 students also achieved outstanding results at GCSE level. We are hugely proud of these students’ fantastic grades, especially as so many complemented their academic prowess with excellence in other areas of school life, underlining Roedean’s holistic approach to education. 37% of 1178 entries were awarded at Grade 9, the most common grade at Roedean - this constitutes the best ever percentage at this elite grade at Roedean. This cohort also achieved the highest ever proportion of grades at 9-8. Six students achieved straight Grade 9s - Athena, Constance, Daisy, Michelle, Natalie, and Zyta have 65 of these top grades between them! Furthermore, 26 students were awarded all Grades 9-8, and fifteen achieved nine or more Grade 9s. The students have all shown exceptional academic focus and diligence and approached their examinations with quiet confidence.
