FROM THE DESK OF A. BEYEL Dear Members and Guests, Happy October, we hope you and your families are enjoying the start of the Fall season. There is no better time to enjoy the weather, watch a game of football, or take advantage of our great course conditions. As of September 11th, the Governor established Phase 3 conditions allowing us to increase our dining and events to full capacity. However, we still encourage social distancing and strongly suggest the use of masks while in the club house. We are looking forward to seeing you at our Thanksgiving Dinner. This event is bound to sell out, so please reserve your seat today. Quickly approaching, is our 59th Annual Platinum Coast Invitational, which will be held on December 5th. We look forward to carrying on this tradition for the local golf community. Lastly, we are excited to announce that as of tomorrow, October 5th, our new website will be live! On the Course The first hints of fall are finally arriving, and it is quite a welcome relief from the oppressive heat and humidity we deal with all summer. We are not out of the woods by any means, and tropical systems can still develop and create havoc. We recently had to close the course for a couple days due to excessive rainfall. When the course reaches its saturation point there is not much we can do except wait for it to dry out. The fall cultural plans are in place, and we will be fertilizing and applying preemergents to control winter annual weeds. We will over-seed the tees once again to provide a nice rye grass base for winter play. Bermuda grass growth slows tremendously in the cooler months of fall and winter, so it is vital to protect the turf by avoiding and/or eliminating wear areas. We have embarked on a campaign to educate our players as to the importance of proper cart driving while enjoying your rounds. Employing course marshals, strategic signage throughout the course and written and verbal messages are all ways we will be addressing this issue. Your cooperation and understanding will be crucial to the success of our efforts. Finally, the greens aerification process is complete, and we had some great weather that allowed us to move sand into the holes properly. We are approximately 2 weeks down the road since punching and starting to see improvement. This necessary evil is normally a 3-week healing process to achieve a decent surface. You may have noticed some changes this week and moving forward with Florida entering phase 3 of the recovery plan.
