FROM THE DESK OF A. BEYEL Dear Members & Guests, Happy New Year to all of you from all of us at Rockledge CC! Ready, or not, here it comes! 2022 is upon us and some of our old worries are still with us. Seems like this covid thing won’t go away! Fortunately, golf is an outlet that can be enjoyed, despite all the mayhem surrounding us. It is so good to see many of our friends back from the great white north. We missed you last year due to all the restrictions on travel. We hope you enjoy your time here in the beautiful Florida winter. We are still trying to figure out the best way to deal with our social events. Covid creates a potential problem with indoor activities. Also, we have no idea what the future pandemic regulations will look like. In the meantime, we will continue to encourage healthy measures around our facility. Be on the lookout for some new offerings to be rolled out soon in the Vue! We are very excited to announce the addition of “small plates” to the menu. These will be shareable bites of delicious food offerings by our chef. Stay tuned! Many of our prominent golf events are on the horizon. Please check your calendars for the dates and times. We also have an erasable board in the golf shop with events posted for a couple of months out. In addition, the golf carts show a calendar of events on the placard.
Have you considered pickleball? We have a wonderful facility right here at RCC! It is a fantastic form of exercise while doing something fun. We already have a vibrant pickleball community here in Brevard County, and many of those players have been utilizing our facility. We would love to see the members get more involved and discover the thrill of pickleball! If you are not sure how to get started, contact Jeff Turner in the golf shop. He will steer you in the right direction. The golf course is benefitting from all the warm weather. It still feels like summer at times! Get out there and enjoy. Turf Care I hope everyone had a happy and safe holiday season! Here is to hoping for good health and happiness throughout the new year! We have a lot to be thankful for. The fact we are still able to enjoy golf no matter where we are in the pandemic cycle is a big one! The greens are in good shape and are beginning to get quicker. So much is dependent on weather conditions. When it gets chilly, the greens get much faster due to slower growth and less friction. The overseeded tees have come in nicely and we are reseeding them as needed. The driving range tee has also been overseeded with rye grass and is doing very well. The busy season is upon us and my annual plea for proper golf and course etiquette is due. Please adhere to the following to help keep the course in good shape: 1. Fix your ballmarks on the greens 2. Fill your divots with sand. Walkers should bring a container. 3. Drive carts appropriately. On cart paths around greens and tees, and no closer than 30 feet to greens for blue flag carts. Follow directional signage. 4. Smooth your footprints in the bunkers so those after you don’t suffer due to your negligence. 5. Please don’t practice on the course by hitting multiple iron shots. Playing a couple balls if alone is okay but excessive course practice is frowned upon. 6. Keep pull carts off the tee tops and avoid traveling in the area between greens and bunkers. Pro Shop Happy New Year Players, New Year is a great time to re-focus on your golf game. Get back to fundamentals and enjoy the game more. This time of year brings cooler temperatures, and the opportunity to add some practice to your routine. Let’s face it, summer is just too hot to beat balls on the range. Here are a few basic things that all players should have in their games. 1.Start with a good set up routine. It should be consistent and repeatable. Start with grip, step into the ball, bend at the waist and then balance your weight between your feet. You can spot a good player even before they hit a ball. 2.Know how far you hit your clubs. Write it down if you have to. This is a key to consistency. 3.Have some basic “go to” shots. Get good at a fairway shot, whether it is a fairway wood or hybrid, learn how to hit it. Be able to hit a good basic chip shot and a bunker shot. Don’t worry about all the “specialty” shots like flops and bump and runs. Stick to the basic shots and you’ll score. 4.Practice controlling distance with your putting. Nothing wrecks a round quicker than missing your first putt by 6 feet and then three putting. You can take 3-4 strokes off a round by eliminating 3 putts. Of course, if you need help with any of these things Jerry and I are here to help! Looking forward to seeing you practicing! Bookkeeping Happy New Year Members, I hope the holiday season went well for all and wish everyone a great new year. As we move into the new year, I would like to review a few items of interest for member billing. Member Portal - Utilize the member portal by signing into your member account from our website. You will have immediate access to your statement and the ability to make payments via credit card or ACH. Billing - Statements are available on the first of the month We encourage everyone to move to email for quicker access to your statement. Member Charging - Members who have a credit card on file with us are allowed to place charges on their member account. Member accounts will be shut down if payment not received after 60 days. Payments - You can make payments in the Pro Shop, through your member portal or authorized auto pay. Payments are due upon receipt of invoice, if you are on auto pay your credit card will be charged on or before the 10th. For accounts not paid by the 15th of the month a late fee will be applied and your credit card on file will be charged. Membership will be placed on cash only if credit card on file is not active. If you are mailing a check, please allow for at least 5-8 days for us to receive the check. Food and Beverage Minimums - Our F&B minimum cycle runs from January to December. We do allow for bulk wine purchases within the year to help meet minimum requirements. This year the deadline to order bulk wine purchases will be the date of the Pro Shop Christmas Party.
