Golf's Greatest Tradition is Back! The Masters Tournament is one of the four major championships in men's professional golf. Scheduled for the first full week of April, the Masters is the first major of the year, and unlike the others, it is always held at the same location, Augusta National Golf Club, a private course in the southeastern United States, in the city of Augusta, Georgia. The Masters was started by amateur champion Bobby Jones and investment banker Clifford Roberts. After his grand slam in 1930, Jones acquired the former plant nursery and codesigned Augusta National with course architect Alister MacKenzie. First played 87 years ago in 1934, the tournament is an official money event on the PGA Tour, the European Tour, and the Japan Golf Tour. The field of players is smaller than those of the other major championships because it is an invitational event, held by the Augusta National Golf Club. The tournament has a number of traditions. Since 1949, a green jacket has been awarded to the champion, who must return it to the clubhouse one year after his victory, although it remains his personal property and is stored with other champions' jackets in a specially designated cloakroom.
FROM THE DESK OF A. BEYEL Dear Members and Guest, Happy April. What a difference a year has made. As we are continuously navigating through the current climate the State guidelines have eased showing progress is being made. We have been continuously searching for ways to stay in front of this new normal and understand that things may still feel off in the social scene, but we are steadily working on creating the landscape of what this will look like. We will miss the Easter bunny and brunch this year. But do have plans to celebrate Mother’s Day with Brunch so please save the date and keep an eye out for the menu. Our new software and website have been an exciting addition. I know, you have heard that from me before, but I truly mean it and hope you are taking the time to get to know your private portal. Communication is key to a successful experience for all. You now have full access to monitor your activity daily if you wish or pay your statement from the comfort of your home or cellular device. Soon the associate program will have the ability to pay online when booking a tee time.
These longer days are beautiful but mean a lot of growth and different conditions on the course. We will be rolling up our sleeves and getting to it to keep us moving. Congratulations to all the Men’s member guest winners. This was my first year missing it and I had horrible FOMO. Who feels it is time to challenge the best of the best and see who are our club champions are? April 17 & 18 let us see who will win their own parking spot for a year and the title of Rockledge Country Clubs Golf Champion. Wishing you all a wonder Easter holiday. All my best,

Turf Care As I write this article, it is very dry out and rain is not in the short-term forecast. However, this is not unusual for this time of year, and it is Florida, so the climate can change quickly! At least there are no disruptions to the golf schedule when it is dry, and the drives go further! Soil temperatures are still a little low for good bermudagrass growth. In Florida, we get very little growth in winter. The grass will remain green as long as no frost occurs, but the tillering that is needed to repair wear areas won’t happen until it heats up. This is why it is so important to help us out by driving carts where we have requested of you many times. The cart path will not wear out nearly as fast as the grass will. Parking right next to the path but not on it blows my mind. It must be an unconscious human instinct to do so because I see it all the time. A couple extra feet does not make that much difference to your walk to the green, but it can make a huge difference to the grass plant. Please consider your impact to the course as you play your round. Those of you taking pull carts can help by leaving the carts off the tee and green areas. Pull carts should not be taken between the bunkers and greens. Many of you have the remote carts so this should not be a problem. Once again, simply consider your footprint as you play. We are changing our aerification cultural practices a little this summer, and it should favor playability. We will be pulling a much smaller core. The result will be smaller holes that heal quicker. In addition, the surface will be very playable right after the process is complete. Monday has always been considered a maintenance day here at the club. We presently allow walkers to play beginning at noon, and off #1 tee only. However, with the time change we are shifting forward to a 1 pm at the earliest start. This still allows for plenty of time to complete 18 holes, and gives us extra time to complete course maintenance objectives we can’t do while golfers are present. Remember, this privilege is for gold, silver and bronze members only. Finally, we are catching up on some of our broadleave weed control. We did a fertilizer and preemergent application in late February and the weather turned cool. The Bermuda stopped growing but the weeds got an extra jolt of nutrition because winter annual weeds don’t stop growing! I see some growth in the Bermuda now. Just waiting for the heat and humidity. Bermuda grows best when we are most uncomfortable outside. Yours in Turf, Jerry Yeomans

A Quick Note to my Fellow Players, It’s the time of year we are heading out of the dry season and heading into the rainy season, and that means it’s a good time to remember proper care for the course! USGA Rule 1.2 STANDARDS OF PLAYER CONDUCT ·Acting with integrity – for example, by following the Rules, applying all penalties, and being honest in all aspects of play. ·Showing consideration to others – for example, by playing at a prompt pace, looking out for the safety of others, and not distracting the play of another player. ·Taking good care of the course – for example, by replacing divots, smoothing bunkers, repairing ball-marks, and not causing unnecessary damage to the course. Please watch out for wet areas as you are driving your carts. Leave the course in better condition than you found it- Fill Divots, rake bunkers and repair more than one ball mark on the greens. Care for the golf course is a group effort and it leaves players with a sense of pride in playing such a beautiful course! Thank you! Jeff Turner, PGA

Dear Members, As a team we are so excited about the increase in traffic to our Vue 18 Bar and Grille, including welcoming the Leagues back and the new demand for our course to outside Golf Outings! We have seen our wedding and event business come back and stronger than 2019 for 2021! As the Vaccines are ramped up and everyone begins to feel safer we are seeing a path back to success! It was a year ago when our Industry was halted to a stop, literally! We had to learn a new environment required to work in, in an already heavily regulated and State Inspected Industry, our team stepped it up another level. We are so proud of the effort as well as the patience our team had to endure as our daily norm was dramatically changed. I only wanted to mention this because of the one year mark and the signifcant effort our team made and how proud we are of them. In closing, a big thank you goes out to all of you who continue to promote the club to family, friends and coworkers. It is our biggest opportunity for membership growth and member engagement.
