About Us Friends of the James River Park WHO ARE WE? The James River Park System defines Richmond. Its forests, trails, islands, and riverfront connect neighborhoods across the city through discovery, play, and learning. People of every age, neighborhood, and background share the Park. The Friends of the James River Park’s mission is to protect, preserve, and enhance the Park. We do this through shared stewardship, natural resource care, and operational support for the James River Park System.
Event Goals RAISE FUNDS The primary goal of the Rooted & Wild event is to raise general operating funds for Friends of the James River Park. These funds are used to provide direct support for the James River Park System. This year we will raise and spend more than $700,000 in the Park. This event is a key part of our fundraising strategy as we look to grow our organization.
RAISE AWARENESS The James River Park System is one of Richmond's greatest resources. This event will help us raise awareness of the challenges the Park faces and the role that Friends of the James River Park plays in supporting and caring for the Park. This event is an important step in creating the culture of sustainability necessary for the Park to thrive.
This year, Friends of James River Park is taking our annual fundraiser to a new level, with a new vision. Introducing Rooted & Wild, a vibrant, 2-day community festival celebrating everything that makes the Park special and essential to Richmond and the people who live here.
