Unresolved water pipe-line problem sparks to Barangay-aid Water System
-Guilliana Ysabelle D. Opong Relevant to DepEd Order No.10, s. 2016 also known as Policy and Guidelines for the Comprehensive Water, Sanitation and Hygiene in Schools (WinS) Program that exhibits the use of clean water supply for learners’ daily use and hygienic purposes, BuenavistaCigaras Elementary School, partnered with GPTA 2024 and Brgy. Cigaras, initiates a water-aid system for the water supply consumption of learners to maintain cleanliness and hygienic initiatives for the school year 2024-2025, Jul. 22. Unresolved water supply causes learners to avoid using bathrooms and comfort rooms in BCES for several years. Undetected problems in the water pipe lines had been a great issue not only for the school but also for the General Parents and Teachers Association (GPTA) and the barangay catchment areas resulting in unending repairs with less to no improvement. BCES continues to have dialogues with stakeholders along with the Local Government Unit of Magdalena to provide long term solutions to the problem. However, the undetected problems turn to bigger problems including huge water bills for several months thus alarming the school and the Dr. Bonifacio the school principal –

30 families displaced on agricultural to commercial land conversion – reasons for increased transferring out students.
-Alexah Zachary Remorosa
In relation with the on-going projects and developmental activities of different private individuals and sectors that initially includes conversion of agricultural lands to commercial lands in Magdalena with tenants not having permanent homes greatly affects schools including Buenavista-Cigaras Elementary School’s (BCES) population due to change of residence.
HEAR US: Mang Ben and Mang Jun discussing effects on land conversion in the area. Riley Brielle C. Corrales.
With modernization at hand, including agricultural lands to subdivision such as a 4-hectare land in Brgy. Poblacion and another 3.5 hectares of land near the school vicinity is being prepared for another subdivision – thus affecting tenants and small settlers whose houses are at risk once the project starts to roll. Over 30 families and 15 students from Buenavista-Cigaras Elemenntary School (BCES) would be directly affected by the land conversion – with no rights on the land. With no lands to tilt and where they can built their house, many farmers are in great concerns on the matter. “Saan po kami titira kung sakaling paalisin po kami ng aming mga pinagtatrabahuhan.”, Mang Jose added.
“Kung sakaling matuloy po yun mga housing projects na ‘yon baka lumipat po kami. Isasama po namin yun mga anak namin.”. added by Mrs. Santos. These poor families would be forced to move to another place to settle affecting the change of residence of the family and the possible reason for transferring out of these 15 learners. “Baka lumipat nga daw po kami sabi ni Mama at Papa.” added by Justine - a grade 3 pupil of Buenavista-Cigaras Elementary School. The said project ran starting last year by selling most of the land properties by now its 60% sales is a clear evidence that this land conversion will soon happen and will permanently affects the life of BCES family and students greatly.

Libreng Sakay project – sparks BCES big chance to win 2024 Regional Level of Gawad -Winona Bautista Patnugot
Cognizance to Regional Memorandum No.339 series of 2024 also known as 9th DepEd Gawad Patnugot Stage 2 Qualifiers stating Buenavista-Cigaras Elementary School as one of the Stage 2 Qualifiers of 2024 Regional Gawad Patnugot for validation, highlights Libreng Sakay as one of the schoolcommunity partnership projects in the division of Laguna, Aug. 28.
BCES bags two categories in the division level of Gawad Patnugot making the school SDO Laguna’s official representative to regional level. This achievement is highlighted by LibrengSakay project that caters learners from Barangay Ilog and nearby barangays including Brgy. Sabang and Brgy. Balanac. The barangay service fetches and picks-up twenty-two (22) learners from Kindergarten to Grade 6. Allowing them to come to school fast and on schedule without any delay and assuring that they can go to school even without ‘baon’. At present, BCES is preparing for the 3rd and last stage of validation as one of the finalist for this year.
