What’s Ahead This Fall Summer may be winding down, but our community calendar certainly isn’t. As vacations come to an end and everyone settles back into their routines, things are picking up around Chattahoochee Hills. City Hall is busy, and the weeks ahead are filling up. September also marks an important anniversary. On Friday, September 11 at 10:00 a.m., Fire Chief Greg Brett is organizing a ceremony at Chattahoochee Hills Fire Station 51 in observance of the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001. The ceremony will honor the lives lost that day, along with the first responders and others whose service and sacrifice we continue to remember 25 years later. We are nearing the end of our Comprehensive Plan process after months of work and community participation. The master planning process for New RiverLands Park is also underway, with exciting possibilities being explored for this beautiful property along the Chattahoochee River.
Fall brings plenty of community gatherings and fundraising efforts. Art Farm at Serenbe’s fundraiser takes place September 26, followed by the Chattahoochee Hills Country Conservancy’s Wandering Feast fundraiser on October 10. Councilmember Ruby Foster is leading the City’s Sixth Annual Fall Festival, taking place October 31. Keep an eye out for upcoming events from Community Brickworks, too. It’s a nice time of year to reconnect with neighbors and support organizations doing important work in Chattahoochee Hills. Fall also brings a chance to keep up with what’s going on at City Hall. City meetings are open to the public, and your Councilmember is a great resource for learning more about what’s happening across the city. The My Chatt Hills app is another easy way to keep up with City news and updates, and it now includes a text alert option. I always enjoy fall in Chattahoochee Hills. Hope to see you around! OUR COMMUNITY A Cajun Homeplace . . . in Chatt Hills By Laurie Searle
Fred Couvillion had long-ago discovered the country charm of Chatt Hills when he built his home on Hamilton Road in 1986. But after 10 years, he longed for a larger place to cultivate the land and his hobbies. In 1996, he found the perfect farm with a well-constructed home, acres of potential, perfect neighbors, and his pride and joy— an old barn he restored that proudly displays the sign, “Welcome to the Cajun Barn". When it came time to pick a pattern for his barn quilt, he pointed to his favorite painting of a Fleur de Lis that represented his Cajun culture, and its sign that read, “Laissez le bon temps rouler” (Let the Good Times Roll). A Little Bit of Cajun . . . A Lifetime of Stewardship Fred Couvillion grew up on the outskirts of New Orleans, but many of his most treasured childhood memories were made on his grandparents' farm. That's where he learned lessons that would shape the rest of his life. Summer mornings often began with his grandfather opening the bedroom door and calling, "Allons!"—"Let's go!" There were crops to tend, animals to feed, equipment to repair, and no shortage of jobs waiting to be done. By the age of seven, Fred was picking cotton for his grandfather, earning enough for his first prized possession—a BB gun. It was also there that he learned to cook, butcher hogs during boucherie, repair just about anything, and appreciate the satisfaction of making things with his own hands. Those early years instilled a quiet self-reliance that has stayed with him throughout his life. When Fred purchased his Chattahoochee Hills property, the old barn and outbuildings were nearly hidden

Fred Couvillion is shown with his Fleur de Lis barn quilt at 7640 Old Phillips Rd. beneath trees and years of neglect. Many people might have seen an overwhelming project. Fred saw possibility. Over time, he cleared the overgrowth, restored the barn from roof to floor, brought electricity to the building, and organized it with the tools, equipment, and family heirlooms that tell the story of a lifetime spent building, repairing, and creating. One treasured possession is a cast-iron cooking pot that has been in his family for more than a century. Today, the restored building proudly bears a sign welcoming visitors to the Cajun Barn. Outside, Fred's care for the land is just as evident. He intentionally planted flowering shrubs, trees, and native plants to attract birds and pollinators, carefully documenting more than two dozen bird species that now visit his property. Rabbits, deer, and even "Priscilla," a resident opossum, are simply part of the neighborhood. What was once an overgrown tract has become a peaceful place where both people and wildlife feel at home. Fred's barn quilt celebrates his Cajun heritage, but his life reflects an even greater tradition—the quiet practice of stewardship. Over the years, he has restored an old barn, nurtured the land, welcomed wildlife, preserved family traditions, and built lasting friendships with neighbors who share his love of rural life. That same spirit continues throughout Chattahoochee Hills, where stewardship is measured not by the number of acres a person owns, but by how faithfully they care for them. The Cedar Grove community is located on the far northern end of the City of Chatt Hills and was once a thriving community when Cedar Grove School was open. It is only about a ten minute drive from anywhere in the city. Support our local farmers and vendors, and help bring people together in this historic community. New Farm Signs Celebrate Chattahoochee Hills’ Agricultural Community Exciting things are growing in Chattahoochee Hills! The first sign in a new farm signage initiative is now in place at The Good Place Farm, with 10 more signs currently in production. Soon, 11 local farms will be easier to find and recognize, helping residents and visitors discover more of the people, places and working landscapes that make Chattahoochee Hills so special. The signs are also the first step toward a future farm trail that will connect these agricultural destinations throughout the community. The initiative is a project of the Chattahoochee Hill Country Conservancy, made possible through support from the City of Chattahoochee Hills DMO and the Chatt Hills Convention & Visitors Bureau. With the first sign now standing and more on the way, this is just the beginning of a new way to celebrate and explore Chattahoochee Hills’ rich farming heritage. OUR COMMUNITY Chattahoochee Hills Hearing Specialist Earns Rare Advanced Credential Rachel Smith of Nacci Hearing in Serenbe becomes Georgia’s only Advanced Hearing Aid Practitioner Chattahoochee Hills is now home to one of only a handful of hearing healthcare professionals in the world to hold the Advanced Hearing Aid Practitioner designation. Rachel Smith, BC-HIS, of Nacci Hearing, located in Serenbe in Chattahoochee Hills, recently earned the Advanced Hearing Aid Practitioner (AHAP) designation, the highest level of advanced credentialing available in her field. Smith is currently the only AHAP in Georgia, one of eight in the United States and one of just nine worldwide. New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery By Laurie Searle
New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery is located across Atlanta Newnan Road from the church at 7875 Atlanta Newnan Road, about three-quarters of a mile north of Hutcheson Ferry Road. When the church was established in 1843, its members built a log meeting house on this site. That original building served the congregation until 1858, when it was replaced by a larger frame church nearby. The cemetery has quietly grown alongside the church for more than 170 years. The oldest legibly marked gravestone dates to 1851 and is located in the cemetery's north section, along with 105 marked and unmarked grave sites. After the congregation moved across the road to the present sanctuary in 1936–1937, the cemetery expanded into its south section, bringing the cemetery to 199 recorded grave sites as of July 2026. From Chattahoochee Hills to Trilith: Local Restaurateur Launches Harvest & Grace Blue Eyed Daisy owner Matt Wachlin expands this community-centered approach to hospitality with a new restaurant at the Town at Trilith A familiar name in Chattahoochee Hills’ restaurant community is taking his hospitality experience to a new audience this fall. Matt Wachlin, owner and operator of the Blue Eyed Daisy in Chattahoochee Hills, is preparing to open Harvest & Grace, a new farm-to-table neighborhood café in the Town at Trilith in Fayetteville. For Wachlin the new restaurant represents both an expansion and a continuation of an approach to food and hospitality that Chattahoochee Hills residents have come to know at the Blue Eyed Daisy. Wachlin took over ownership and operations of the Serenbe bakery and café in 2020, building on a hospitality career that spans three decades and includes experience with Buckhead Life Restaurant Group, Here to Serve Restaurants and Castellucci Hospitality Group. His ownership of Blue Eyed Daisy and the plans for the new Trilith concept were also recently highlighted by What Now Atlanta. Harvest & Grace will bring many of the values that have shaped Wachlin’s career to a larger, all-day restaurant concept. Inspired in part by his childhood growing up on a family honeybee farm, the restaurant will emphasize fresh ingredients, scratch-made food and the idea that sharing a meal can create meaningful connections among neighbors. “Harvest & Grace is more than a restaurant — it’s
an everyday gathering place where neighbors can connect over thoughtfully prepared meals, morning coffee, family dinners and weekend brunches,” Wachlin said. “Whether you’re grabbing coffee before work, meeting friends for lunch, enjoying dinner with family or simply looking for a welcoming place to relax, we want Harvest & Grace to feel like your neighborhood table.” The new café will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner Monday through Saturday, along with specialty coffee and Sunday brunch. The menu will feature approachable American fare ranging from biscuits and gravy and breakfast plates to sandwiches, seasonal salads, avocado toast and other comfort-food favorites. Vegetarian, gluten-free, kid-friendly and health-conscious selections are also planned. Harvest & Grace’s official website lists an autumn 2026 opening at 210 Trilith Parkway, Ste 150, and describes the restaurant as a community-centered café serving seasonal, locally minded food throughout the day. The restaurant is also planning a spacious, pet-friendly outdoor patio with water stations and leash tie-downs. The Town at Trilith, located adjacent to Trilith Studios, has developed into a growing residential and commercial community with an emphasis on walkability, creativity and gathering spaces. Harvest & Grace is intended to become one of those everyday gathering places. For Chattahoochee Hills, the opening is also a homegrown success story. Wachlin's move from operating a beloved local café to creating and launching an entirely new restaurant concept, demonstrates how businesses rooted in this community can grow well beyond the community's borders while carrying forward the values of personal service, good food and connection. The Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge is now a World Heritage site. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s World Heritage committee approved the addition around midnight Saturday morning in Georgia time and about 1 p.m. in Busan, South Korea, where the meeting was held. The decision was reached without debate from the international committee set up to recognize sites of universal environmental or cultural importance, but the effort to join that coterie was more than four decades in the making. “The Okefenokee is a place where nature still reigns,” Kim Bednarek, executive director of Okefenokee Swamp Park and Adventures, said in an acceptance speech. “Across more than 400,000 acres, water, fire, peat and time continue to shape an intact wetland, reminding us that conservation is about protecting the natural systems that sustain life itself.” Georgia Rivers Executive Director Rena Peck described the celebration in a phone call from Busan with a lot of clapping and cheering in the background. “Everyone’s just thrilled,” she said. “People from all countries are coming up to congratulate us. It’s just a vision of world peace. Rena Peck/ Georgia Rivers the Okefenokee.” In a phone call after the hearing, Bednarek said the crowd of international diplomats and cultural experts were going crazy for a particular swampy souvenir – plush Okefenokee alligators. 10
Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge has been named a UNESCO World Heritage site. Larry Woodward/U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service “I’m going to tell you, the plush gators have been the biggest hit,” she said with a laugh. “Everyone loves the plush alligator. American alligators are the iconic charismatic megafauna for the Okefenokee. In the Okefenokee, we know them as swamp puppies, and here, the little plushies are being handed out as swamp puppies, and everyone is absolutely loving them and it’s a great way for them to get excited and to learn about the Okefenokee.” The designation makes the Okefenokee Georgia’s first UNESCO World Heritage site, and it’s also the first national wildlife refuge in the United States to achieve that status. A boon for tourism and education A lot more of those plush swamp puppies could soon be on store shelves in south Georgia, along with gator keychains, magnets, hats and more. A 2024 Conservation Fund report found that the number of people visiting the Okefenokee each year could double from 800,000 to 1.6 million by 2035 if it were to become a World Heritage site. Some local residents have been wary of what the increased attention might mean for the swamp and the neighboring communities. But Gov. Brian Kemp celebrated the World Heritage designation as a win for those communities in a statement. “An important part of our state’s heritage and economy, this is a fitting recognition for the Okefenokee that will further strengthen rural communities that surround it,” Kemp said. In recommending the Okefenokee be added to the list, UNESCO praised the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for its effective management of the land, but noted that it is vulnerable to a variety of threats, including climate change, water management, mining interests and “the projected

OUR COMMUNITY increase in tourism.” An increase in tourism at natural wonders like the Okefenokee sometimes means an increase in dangerous or damaging behavior, but Bednarek said the swamp is protected in that regard by its size and remoteness. “We have 120 miles of water trails in the Okefenokee, which means you can really only access about 2% of the entire national wildlife refuge on those trails,” she said. “So there’s not an opportunity to harm the swamp because you can’t access it. The real opportunity is in the communities, in the gateway communities of Charlton County and Ware County and Clinch County in Georgia, and in Baker County in Florida to really see an uptick in tourism and have pride in this incredible place.” Larry Winslett, the endangered species issue leader for the Sierra Club Georgia Chapter, agreed. “In the future, somebody might slap some big hotels next door or something like that, I suppose it could happen with that,” he said. “But there’s more of a concern on that issue at places like Stone Mountain, Jekyll Island, Arabia Mountain, places like that that do get a tremendous amount of visitors.” Ancestral lands Speaking from Busan, where she addressed the UNESCO committee, Tracie Revis said she hopes the new designation will encourage people to learn about the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, of which she is a member. The Muscogee and other Native American communities lived in and around the swamp for thousands of years until they were forcibly removed in the 1800s. The name Okefenokee comes from the Muscogee language and means “land of the trembling earth,” Revis said, a reference to the way the thick peat moves on top of the water. “It is our ancestral lands,” she said. “It’s lands that we lost after 1814 after the Treaty of Fort Jackson, but it served as a refuge, it served as a homeland, it served as a place that had a lot of meaning for us.” “We believe culturally that the trees are older, the water is older, and it remembers our stories and our voices,” she added. “So for us to be able to be a part of this celebration and everything moving forward, it creates a healing for our community.” The park contains information on Native American
culture and linguistics, and Revis said work is underway for more educational experiences. ‘A shooting star’ The Okefenokee now joins natural wonders like the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone National Park. Its biodiversity helped the swamp win the day in Busan. It’s one of the world’s largest naturally driven freshwater ecosystems and home to at least 856 plant species, 48 mammal species and 238 bird species, 39 fish species and 90 reptile and amphibian species, according to UNESCO. Last year, Alabama-based Twin Pines Minerals abandoned plans to mine valuable minerals near the refuge. The new designation does not prevent any kind of nearby development, but Peck said she feels optimistic that the new honor will help ensure the land surrounding the park will be protected. “The direction is – it’s a shooting star,” she said. “And I think it’s game over for talking about the Okefenokee and having to talk about a mine at the same time.”

Post Consumer Brands will partner with its current landlord who will fund the planned $31.99 million expansion. The proposed project would add approximately 301,320 square feet to the company’s existing 700,000-square-foot facility at 4955 Oakley Industrial Boulevard. The incentive would apply exclusively to the expansion and not the existing facility. “Post Consumer Brands’ planned expansion is a strong vote of confidence in Fairburn and the future we are building,” said Mayor Hattie Portis-Jones. “We are elated that a company already established in Fairburn is considering an even greater commitment to our city, and we will continue working with our partners to support responsible growth that creates opportunity for our residents and elevates Fairburn’s position as a leading destination for business investment.” Post Consumer Brands plans to consolidate and expand the distribution of its breakfast cereal and pet food products at the site, creating a more efficient Southeast hub. The unified warehouse system is expected to improve logistics, reduce transportation costs and strengthen inventory management. “Post Consumer Brands’ continued investment in Fulton County sends a clear message: Our region has the workforce, infrastructure and business environment companies need to grow,” said Develop Fulton Board Chairman Kwanza Hall. “This nearly $32 million expansion will create new jobs, retain existing positions and strengthen South Fulton’s role as a leading hub for industrial and logistics operations. It is a smart investment in Fairburn’s economic future and another example of how Fulton County continues to compete and win.” The expansion is expected to create approximately 35 new full-time positions, retain 64 existing jobs and 12

The project is anticipated to generate an overall economic impact of approximately $182.6 million, according to a project analysis. “This project represents the type of responsible business expansion that strengthens our local economy while supporting a company already invested within Fairburn,” said City of Fairburn City Administrator Tony Phillips. “With this major expansion of Post Consumer Brands, we are supporting job growth, increasing the local tax base and helping Fairburn remain competitive for significant business investments.” Construction is anticipated to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026, with operations expected to commence by the third quarter of 2027. The project is expected to generate approximately $3.55 million in local tax revenue during the 10-year incentive period. In the first year following completion, the expanded facility is projected to generate approximately $246,605 in taxes, compared with approximately $14,290 annually before the new investment. Develop Fulton previously supported the development of the company’s existing facility through the issuance of Taxable Revenue Bonds for the First Industrial Project in 2018. Closing is currently anticipated in the third quarter of 2026.

ATLANTA, GA — The Develop Fulton Board of Directors unanimously approved an intergovernmental assessment agreement with the City of Chattahoochee Hills that establishes a new financing pathway for eligible commercial property improvements focused on energy efficiency, renewable energy, water conservation and resiliency. The agreement advances the Chattahoochee Hills Commercial Property Assessed Conservation, Energy and Resiliency Program, commonly known as C-PACER. The program will allow qualifying commercial, industrial, agricultural and multifamily property owners to access private capital for eligible improvements and repay the financing through a voluntary special assessment placed on the participating property. Develop Fulton’s master program authorizes the issuance of taxable revenue bonds in an aggregate principal amount of up to $38 million, subject to future adjustment by the Authority. Individual projects will be reviewed and approved separately in accordance with state law, the program guidebook and applicable financing requirements. “This unanimous vote creates another tool to help Fulton County communities attract responsible private investment while encouraging improvements that can strengthen properties for decades,” said Develop Fulton Board Chairman Kwanza Hall. “By working with Chattahoochee Hills, we are expanding access to financing that can support energy efficiency, water conservation, resiliency and thoughtful economic development without placing the repayment burden on taxpayers.” C-PACER financing may be used for permanently installed improvements such as energy-efficient building systems, renewable energy infrastructure, water conservation measures and improvements designed to help properties withstand environmental or operational disruptions. Financing may support new construction, renovation or the refinancing of qualifying improvements. Under the program, participating property owners voluntarily enter into individual assessment agreements. The assessments are tied to the participating properties and are used to repay the private capital that funds each
approved project. Property owners must satisfy all program requirements, including obtaining written consent from existing mortgage or lien holders when applicable. “This agreement reflects the power of intergovernmental collaboration to create practical solutions for economic development,” said Develop Fulton Executive Director Sarah-Elizabeth Langford. “C-PACER can help property owners address significant upfront improvement costs while creating opportunities for stronger buildings, more efficient operations and continued investment in Chattahoochee Hills.” The agreement follows the Develop Fulton Board’s adoption of its master C-PACER resolution on July 28, 2026, and the Chattahoochee Hills City Council’s authorization of the local program on Aug. 4, 2026. Midwest PACE Services LLC will serve as program administrator and will review financing applications to confirm that proposed projects and improvements meet state law and program requirements. Eligible projects must receive required approvals before financing can move forward. A Shorter Cycle, a Better Outcome GreyStone Power has moved from a four-year vegetation trimming cycle to a three-year cycle across our system, including the lines serving Chattahoochee Hills. By returning more frequently to maintain rights-of-way, crews can address potential hazards earlier, limiting the growth of vegetation that can interfere with electric service. This isn't cosmetic trimming. Crews remove dead 14
trees, cut back limbs that could fall into lines during storms and take down whole trees when they pose a clear threat to infrastructure. In 2025 alone, GreyStone removed approximately 12,000 trees system-wide that were identified as likely to cause outages and cleared vegetation along nearly 800 miles of power lines. All vegetation control is mechanical - saws, chippers, bucket trucks and skilled hands. What Those Brief 'Blinks' Actually Mean If you've noticed your lights blink momentarily and then stay on, that's not a sign of a problem. It’s actually a sign that the system is working as designed. GreyStone Power is investing in smart grid technology called FLISR, which is an acronym for Fault Location, Isolation and Service Restoration. This technology allows many outages to be avoided altogether or significantly reduces the number of members affected. These investments help improve reliability, shorten restoration times, and create a more resilient electric system for Chattahoochee Hills and communities across GreyStone's service area. That brief blink you experience is the grid doing its job.

Elevating the Riverlands Park By Shannon Kettering
The City of Chattahoochee Hills is taking the next step to elevate New RiverLands Park as part of a regional vision for the Chattahoochee River. The RiverLands, an initiative of Trust for Public Land, is a 100-mile-long public greenway and blueway plan from Buford Dam to Chattahoochee Bend State Park. The City, in collaboration with Chattahoochee NOW, is poised to lead the way in it's implementation by advancing the plans for this park's design. While the pavilion, kayak launch, and campgrounds are open and available to the public, the bulk of the 290+ acre property remains inaccessible. This master plan will define the future uses of the rest of this land and catalyze opportunities for greater regional connectivity. Chattahoochee NOW has engaged HGOR, an Atlanta design firm, to design the master plan. This summer, HGOR developed a conceptual design for the future park. In August, the team solicited feedback on the plan through meetings with the project's stakeholder group and steering committee. On August 4th, HGOR presented the plan at City Council for their review. On August 22nd, the team held an open house at City Hall to share the plan with the public for additional input. Participants discussed the plans with the design team and gave their feedback in person and through written surveys. HGOR will be incorporating that feedback into the plan, before moving forward into the next phase. As fall begins, the design team will be producing phasing, permitting, and budgeting plans to accompany the concept. These plans will give the City a roadmap for how to move forward with fundraising goals. When prepared, these plans will be presented at a future City Council meeting. OUR COMMUNITY Apple Walnut Tarte Tatin with Calvados Crème Anglaise By Mary Collins-Shepard
September always gets me thinking about apples. Maybe it’s the back-to-school connection—all that “apple for the teacher” business. Growing up in New England, where school traditionally started the day after Labor Day, September and apples have always seemed to go hand in hand. Whatever the reason, apples are the quintessential fruit of fall, and this quick and easy recipe is a delicious way to let their flavor shine. 4 tablespoons unsalted butter ½ cup sugar 2 tablespoons water 6 Gala apples, peeled, cored and cut into 8 wedges each 1/3 cup golden raisins 2 tablespoons Calvados 1/3 cup walnuts, chopped 1 8-oz package Pillsbury Original Crescent Dough or 1 sheet Pepperidge Farm puff pastry, thawed Toast walnuts on a baking sheet in a 350° oven until fragrant, about 8 minutes. Once cooled, chop and set aside. Increase oven temperature to 375°. Combine raisins and Calvados in a small bowl and let soak until raisins are plump, at least 15 minutes. In a large cast iron skillet over medium heat, melt butter, sugar and water and cook until caramelized, about 10 minutes. Add apples and continue cooking 15 minutes more, stirring once every 5 minutes. Add walnuts and soaked raisins along with liquid. Off heat, ignite the mixture to burn off alcohol. Return to heat and continue cooking 5 minutes more.
Place pastry over apples and gently tuck in sides all around. Pierce the top to vent steam. Place the pan on the middle rack of the preheated oven and bake 15 – 20 minutes until golden brown. Transfer to a wire rack and let cool 10 minutes. Invert a serving dish over the tart and, using potholders, CAREFULLY flip the tart onto the dish. Replace any apples that may have stuck to the pan. Brush any remaining syrup from the pan over the apples. Serve warm or room temperature with Calvados Crème Anglaise. Serves 10 – 12. Super Easy Calvados (Ice) Crème Anglaise: 1 ½ cups melted vanilla bean ice cream (splurge on the good stuff) 2 tablespoons Calvados Serving size – 2 tablespoons Combine and serve. Store any leftover sauce in a plastic squirt bottle, refrigerated. Cook’s note: For a non-alcoholic substitute for Calvados, use apple juice concentrate or reduced fresh apple cider. Eliminate the flaming step.

Afternoon in the Country Returns to Serenbe for 20th Anniversary Sunday, November 8, 2026
Les Dames d’Escoffier International Atlanta will celebrate the 20th anniversary of Afternoon in the Country on Sunday, November 8, in the fields beside the Inn at Serenbe. The annual food and beverage fundraiser brings together some of the region’s leading restaurateurs, chefs, caterers, retailers, wineries, distilleries, distributors and farms. This year’s event will return to its original Serenbe setting with a more intimate format, welcoming only 800 guests and featuring 80 carefully selected food, farm and beverage tasting participants. Afternoon in the Country has received the Allie Award for “Best Public Fair or Festival” and has been voted one of Atlanta’s top food and wine events by readers of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Fast Bananas Trail Race Returns to Serenbe for Its Fourth Year There is something different about running on a trail. Pace becomes a little less important as runners navigate the hills, trees and changing terrain around them. It feels a little more like an adventure—and this November, runners and walkers of all ages will have a chance to experience it right here in Chattahoochee Hills. The Fast Bananas Trail Race at Serenbe returns for its fourth year on Saturday, November 14. The race is organized by Chattahoochee Hills resident Dr. Kate Mihevc Edwards, PT, DPT, OCS, founder of Precision Performance and Physical Therapy, with the goal of creating a fun, approachable trail race that brings the community together. And participants definitely don't have to consider themselves "trail runners" to join in. The event offers three distances designed for different ages and abilities. The 1-mile race is a great opportunity for kids and older adults to experience race morning and the trails. The 5K welcomes both runners and walkers and is a great introduction for anyone curious about trail racing. For those looking for more of a challenge, the 10K offers plenty of hills and a true trail-running experience.
Experienced trail runners are welcome, but so are people who have never run a trail race before. Bring the kids, sign up with friends or neighbors, volunteer, cheer, or simply come out and be part of the morning. It's a chance to get outside, explore the trails at Serenbe and enjoy an active day with the community. There are a lot of ways to be a runner, and not every race has to be about chasing a PR. Art Farm at Serenbe Launches “Art as Community Connector”
New rotating exhibit space celebrates artists from Serenbe and Chattahoochee Hills Art Farm at Serenbe has launched “Art as Community Connector,” a new rotating public art exhibit located at the corner of Selborne Way and Selborne Lane, below the Hill Restaurant. The installation is dedicated to highlighting artists from Serenbe and the greater Chattahoochee Hills community, with two local artists selected to be featured each year. The inaugural artists are Bob Lederman and Anne Beidler, chosen through a juried selection process from a talented pool of local submissions. Lederman’s featured work, The Secret Canal, captures a quieter and more mysterious side of Venice. It shows a gondola passing on a narrow canal as viewed through a shadowed passageway. He was especially drawn to the gondola as it passed through the opening, and to the contrast between the dark brick and stone interior, the sunlit steps and the bright blue-green water beyond. The image captures one of the unexpected views often found while walking through Venice, where a small passage or doorway can suddenly open onto another world. Beidler’s featured work, Forest Bather, reflects her ongoing exploration of the connections people have to home-place, kindred and the earth. A printmaker, Beidler has created a recent series of small, hand-pulled prints inspired by her interactions with the forests of Serenbe during her daily walks. The piece selected for the Art as Community Connector installation grew from that body of work. More of Beidler’s work can be found at www. abeidler.com. Art Farm celebrated the new project with a sidewalk exhibit on August 16, giving the community an opportunity to view Lederman’s and Beidler’s work and learn more about the artists behind it. Art Farm extends its thanks to every artist who submitted work for consideration. The response reflects the extraordinary creative talent found throughout the community and sets the stage for Art as Community Connector to become an annual celebration of local art. StudioSwan Presents “Chasing Summer” Featuring 19 Local Artists
Chattahoochee HILLS, Ga. — StudioSwan’s newest exhibition, Chasing Summer, is now on view through September 19, bringing together the work of 19 local artists in a celebration of creativity and community. Curated by Tom Swanston and Ren Dillard, the exhibition opened July 18 and features work by Adrienne Anbinder, Anne Beidler, Barbara Brenner, Ren Dillard, BJ Glick, Mary Hollis, Ann Jackson, Zan Jackson, Robert Lederman, Malinda Lively-Arnold, Julie McKinney, Tim Mosby, Mary Collins-Shepard, Ken Shepard, Paula Susarte, Tom Swanston, Judy Walker, Martin Whist and Nicholas Widener. By Campus Pastor Jeff Peek All my life I have been Blessed by incredible ladies making a huge impact on my life. None, greater than my mother. I have been told many times, no one is like your mother, Praise God for our mother’s. I recently lost her to an illness her body could not overcome, she is home now with my daddy and her Savior, Jesus Christ. A new body, scripture tells us, what a time they must be having. The wonderful lunch ladies at Rico elementary worked so hard to prepare our meals and made the best rolls I ever put in my mouth. Those ladies were such servants to us kids. My 6th & 7th grade teacher Mrs. Hall taught our class with caring and kindness but made sure we got was she was teaching. Coming from a rather large family I had many aunt’s that played a roll in my upbringing. Often I spent the night away from home, where I knew my aunt would make things so good. As I have grown older the fact that ladies need each other and need to have community together has become more apparent then ever. It is a good thing for the female gender to spend time together, growing closer and leaning on each other for support. The month of August brings something very exciting for all the ladies in our wonderful community of Chattahoochee Hills, and the surrounding area. On the campus of Crossroads Chattahoochee Hills, we have a pavilion with an indoor space. On Wednesday nights, @ 7 o’clock the ladies in our community are invited to come and get to know each other, open the bible together in a small group setting, a no pressure atmosphere. BRICKWORKS UPDATE
A Summer of Record-Setting Support This summer was a record-setting season for the food pantry, with more trunks filled and more families served than ever before. We know the rising cost of groceries can weigh heavily on families, especially when finances are tight. By helping provide essential groceries and household items, we can help families redirect those savings toward rent, utility bills, medical expenses, and other necessities, supporting stability during difficult times. Each year, we also provide backpacks and school supplies for children from kindergarten through high school, helping them begin the school year with confidence. This August, we reached a new record by equipping 95 children with backpacks and everything they needed from their school supply lists. In July alone, we filled 103 trunks, serving 68 families. Of those, 35 families returned for a second visit, and two families received emergency assistance funding.

Second Annual Tiny Art Show - On August 22, Community Brickworks opened its doors, for the second year in a row, for all to see what’s happening in our little space. Our Pantry Crew was on hand to show people where the magic happens, and our Library volunteers welcomed friends, new and old, to a space that has become a gathering 32
hub. What made the day even more special, was the opening of the first ever Community Brickworks Tiny Art Show. Artists of all ages, from all over the community, submitted tiny art pieces and the creations were a delight to behold. There were diminutive paintings and pottery, quilt squares and jewelry, needle felting and paper mache. We hoped for at least twenty entries; we were humbled to see all the creativity and love that went into over seventy! Yes, the art is beautiful. It is a wonderful reflection of the gathering space that has evolved, and the community that has made it possible. In addition to the art, there were some treasures from the Rico Elementary School Days. There were laughs and warm moments as Ken Langley found his elementary school photo in a carefully curated album, and a few aha moments as newcomers leafed through a grade school version of Foxfire, lovingly kept for decades. Seeing the bounty of artwork created by friends and neighbors left one feeling elevated and inspired, but experiencing the event come together was a testament to the beauty that is intrinsic to creating in community. As volunteers worked to mount, label, and hang art, neighbors called and stopped by to see how they could help. What started as a crew of three turned into a crew of ten, reminding all that many hands make

When dropping off a batch of homemade cookies for the big day, a patron remarked that, having recently moved from a nearby community, it was the library where she and her husband found new friendships in their new community. A novice artist reflected on her work, saying, “I really enjoyed doing this. I just didn’t realize how much I needed it!” Creating, whether it be art, food, friendship, or any myriad of things, can be a balm to the soul. Thanks to everyone who had a hand in creating this special event. Most of the art will remain on display through October so if you didn’t make it to the opening, you’ll want to stop by soon to see it for yourself. And, you’ll probably want to bring a friend!

2026 TSPLOST 3 IGA with all Cities Signed Voters in Fulton County who live outside the City of Atlanta will have the chance this fall to extend a sales tax that funds projects in 14 cities. The 0.75% Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (TSPLOST) has been in place since 2017 for Alpharetta, Chattahoochee Hills, College Park, East Point, Fairburn, Hapeville, Johns Creek, Milton, Mountain Park, Palmetto, Roswell, Sandy Springs, South Fulton and Union City. This covers more than 600,000 residents but does not include the City of Atlanta. Fulton County has been named a 2026 Digital Counties Survey winner by the Center for Digital Government and the National Association of Counties (NACo), placing ninth nationwide among counties with a population of 1 million or more. The honor was presented at the NACo Annual Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana on July 15, 2026, and celebrates counties that use technology to strengthen services, improve efficiency, and enhance community engagement. “To be recognized on a national level reinforces Fulton County’s commitment to using innovation to better serve our residents,” said Fulton County Chief Information Officer Kevin Kerrigan. “This achievement sets a national benchmark and serves as the foundation of the work being done in the county to modernize and improve the delivery of government services.” The Digital Counties Survey highlights how counties are turning today's challenges into tomorrow's best practices through their Innovation and Technology Services (ITS) Departments. Counties like Fulton earning top honors are being honored for their ability to connect technology initiatives to organizational goals, improve the resident experience in measured ways, and build resilient operations capable of supporting future ambitions. All recipients will be recognized during the 2026 Digital Counties Awards Dinner held in conjunction with the NACo Annual Conference in New Orleans. Building on a Tradition of Excellence: Chattahoochee Hills Pursues Ninth Consecutive GFOA Budget Award Now that the City of Chattahoochee Hills has adopted its FY2027 Annual Budget, the City will once again submit its budget to the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for consideration for the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award. If successful, FY2027 would represent the City's ninth consecutive year receiving this nationally recognized award. The Distinguished Budget Presentation Award recognizes state and local governments that use their budgets as clear policy, financial planning, operations and communication tools—not simply as lists of revenues and expenditures. The FY2027 Annual Budget will continue the City's commitment to making financial information accessible to residents, businesses, elected officials and other stakeholders through a digital document available on the City's website under the City Manager's page. Beginning with applications submitted in 2026, GFOA revised its criteria to emphasize clear communication, transparency, accessibility and public understanding of budget decisions across documents, websites, dashboards and other communication tools.

The FY2027 Annual Budget will build on that tradition while incorporating the updated GFOA criteria and continuing to improve how the City communicates its financial priorities and decisions. Receiving the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award year after year is a significant accomplishment for a community the size of Chattahoochee Hills. It reflects the ongoing commitment of the Mayor and City Council, City Manager, 36

AI in Action – Smarter Technology. Stronger Community By Chris.Montesinos@chatthillsga.us The six-board series provides residents with an accessible look at how we are using modern AI technologies and platforms as capacity and capability multipliers. For a small city with limited staff resources and an increasingly complex portfolio of projects, these tools are helping us work more efficiently, organize and analyze information, communicate more clearly, and move projects from planning to implementation. The series walks through several practical applications, including expanding staff capacity, turning meetings into actionable next steps, translating complex information into understandable public communications, supporting projects across the City, and considering how we can continue using these technologies responsibly in the future. The underlying message is important: AI is not replacing staff expertise, judgment, accountability, or

decision-making. It is multiplying our capacity to do the work. It allows us to spend less time on repetitive administrative tasks and more time on project implementation, collaboration, community engagement, problem-solving, and service delivery. Since the boards will be on public display throughout August, I think this also presents a good opportunity to introduce the initiative through the City newsletter and potentially feature elements of the series throughout the month. I’ve attached the six-board series as it moves into final production. I wanted you both to have an advance look and some context for what we are trying to communicate. It allows us to spend less time on repetitive administrative tasks!
