CHATT HILLS NEWS

MAYOR CAMILLE LOWE

April in Chattahoochee Hills

With the official arrival of spring in late March, April brings a renewed energy across Chattahoochee Hills. The trees begin to turn green, trails and parks begin to fill with neighbors again, and the familiar yellow dusting of pollen covers our porches…a sure sign that spring has truly arrived. The dogwoods and cherry blossoms are in bloom, and the longer spring evenings invite us to slow down and enjoy the season.

This is also the time of year when the farmers market and ball field open. There’s something special about gathering outdoors and running into neighbors along the way. These small moments help strengthen the sense of community that makes Chattahoochee Hills so unique. That spirit was on display during the Riverkeepers cleanup at Campbellton Park on Saturday, March 21st. Volunteers helped clean up the park, and it was exciting to see the newly acquired park acreage firsthand. Public Works has already begun cutting the new beautiful field, offering a glimpse of the opportunities ahead for this space and our community.

April also brings back memories of how far we’ve come. In April of 2022, we celebrated a ribbon cutting for the new nature trail at Hutcheson Ferry Park. Four years later, the woodland trail continues to be a quiet favorite… winding through the trees, reaching the wetlands, following along Cedar Creek, and opening into the hay field before looping back. It’s a great reminder of the investments we’ve made in preserving and enjoying the natural beauty around us.

This time of year also reminds me why I care so deeply about this place. People are busy, balancing responsibilities and full lives, and it matters to be part of a community that feels connected and special. So many people give their time, and those efforts make a lasting difference.

I hope you find time this April to enjoy the beauty around us…visit the farmers market, attend outdoor music, join a community gathering, explore a trail, or simply connect with neighbors. Thank you to everyone who continues to care about our future. I Love Chattahoochee Hills!

See you at upcoming meetings! Mayor Camille Lowe What an amazing and beautiful day to volunteer for our 16th year of Sweep the Hooch. I’m excited to report that almost 1400 of you incredible volunteers removed 32.19 TONS during Sweep this past Saturday at 67 cleanup sites. This puts our cumulative Sweep total the last 16 years at 341.5 Tons! Thanks to you all!

Deer Creek Farm to compete in UGA’s 2023 Flavor of Georgia final judging

Judges have selected Deer Creek Farm’s product, Blue Harvest Tea, as a finalist to compete in the second and final round of the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences’ annual Flavor of Georgia Food Product Contest.

Narrowed from a field of 124 products, the finalists will compete on March 28 at The Classic Center in Athens with an award ceremony to follow. The 2023 event is open to the public from 4 to 6 p.m.; the $20 admission includes samples from finalists in attendance and one drink ticket. Registration is now open.

Blue Harvest Tea is a refreshing drink with the distinct taste of blueberry goodness married with the perfect black tea. Deer Creek Farm says the subtle taste of herbs will tickle your palate, reminding you of a summer day sippin’ tea on the front porch.

The contest is the state’s proving ground for small, upstart food companies as well as established products looking for recognition or new markets. This year’s finalists represent all corners of the state and the best of Georgia’s diverse culinary heritage.

“The Flavor of Georgia competition is an opportunity for the Department of Food Science and Technology (FST) to engage with food companies and entrepreneurs who are developing new products — ultimately, these new products and businesses benefit not only those who are directly involved in them but also those who buy the products,” said FST Department Head and Professor Manpreet Singh.

Judges for the final round of the contest will include food brokers, grocery buyers, and other food product experts. Entries are evaluated by category based on their Georgia theme, commercial appeal, taste, innovation and market potential. Contestants will provide samples to judges while pitching their products in a three-minute

presentation. Winners will be named for each category, the overall grand prize and a people’s choice award, which will be chosen by event attendees.

Showcasing Georgia’s Best

Flavor of Georgia is more than a contest; it helps promote and showcase the variety and success of food entrepreneurs in the state. Since 2007, more than 1,700 products have been entered into the contest, and participating businesses have experienced increased sales, business contacts, publicity and overall interest in their products.

Past finalists report that participation in the contest boosts their annual sales by about 20% on average. Taking into account multiplier effects, it is estimated that increased sales from participating in Flavor of Georgia contributes to more than $5.6 million in annual revenue for the Georgia economy, according to a follow-up survey of previous finalists and winners from 2015- 2019.

The Flavor of Georgia Food Product Contest is organized by the UGA CAES Department of Food Science and Technology with support from the Georgia Department of Agriculture and Georgia Grown. This event is a part of CAES Signature Events. These special events showcase outstanding faculty contributions, foster community and industry collaboration, and spotlight the college’s impact on a global scale.

“Flavor of Georgia showcases all the different ways FST impacts the food industry, from flavor profiling to extending the shelf life of a product and value addition of food products,” Singh said.

More information about the contest is available at flavorofgeorgia.caes.uga.edu and by following the contest on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.

Dousing the Flames: One Couple’s Unimaginable Journey

Imagine your home catching fire. While the damage to the home has been isolated to a few charred rooms and soot, the damage to the heart is tremendous, as you mourn the loss of your three pets. Even with an overnight stay at the hospital with your spouse, who is being treated for smoke inhalation, you breathe a sigh of relief knowing the structure of your home is still intact.

Then, the unimaginable happens. You get a call from your neighbor the next day. She informs you that your home is on fire AGAIN. This time your entire home is engulfed in flames. One home. Two fires. Total destruction in 24 hours.

What seems too real to be true is Sean and Alexis Jones’ reality. Their home, their pets, their belongings, all lost to fire. Yet another spark was kindled amid the destruction – the kindness and generosity of others.

The kindness started in the form of their neighbor, Michelle Brock Powell. Her legacy family, the Brocks, once owned the home next door. She immediately sprang into action by gathering items to donate to Sean and Alexis. Within hours, Michelle was receiving clothing and monetary donations from other neighbors and people who were simply driving by and wanted to help.

Alexis describes Michelle as “one of the purest spirits you’ll ever encounter.” In speaking about the Brocks’ rich family heritage in the area, Alexis added, “Her father, Mr. Brock, is amazing – the whole family, actually.”

The generosity did not stop there. One of Chatt Hills’ large landowners, Carl Bouckaert, reached out to Fire Chief, Greg Brett wanting to offer one of his homes to the Joneses. Sean and Alexis took Bouckaert up on the offer and stayed in one of his homes for nearly two weeks until their temporary housing was ready.

These are only a few examples of how the Chattahoochee Hills community came together to support the Joneses in their time of need. Their gratitude is expressed in the following letter.

Dear friends and family, First and foremost, THANK YOU!! We are overwhelmed by the love, prayers, calls, messages, donations, and care packages we’ve received after losing our fur babies and home in the recent fire. Even though heartbroken to have lost everything, we are incredibly grateful that we are safe — and surrounded by such an amazing and supportive tribe and community.

Your calls, texts, and offers to help have meant more to us than we can express. Your care and concern are our strength and comfort right now... We ask for your continued prayers and positive thoughts as we take this one step at a time… From the bottom of our hearts, thank you so, so much for supporting us during this unimaginable time; it means more to us than you know.

With love and gratitude, Sean and Alexis

Please help the Jones' with immediate needs of food, clothing, and necessities, you can do that through their Amazon “Rebuild 2026” registry at https://shorturl.at/ U4Maj.

Let's Build Community Together

In our city’s Comprehensive Plan, the vision has always been to concentrate commercial development within mixed-use hamlets — not only to lessen daily traffic and congestion, but to preserve more of the open land that defines Chattahoochee Hills.

Serenbe has done a remarkable job bringing that vision to life by attracting businesses, amenities, and gathering places into its hamlet. While these spaces are open to everyone, some rural residents have still felt more like visitors than participants when they venture in. Over time, that quiet hesitation can make our hamlets feel a bit separate, even when that’s not the intention.

Then came an evening in March

When Marie Nygren graciously hosted a gathering that intentionally brought Serenbe and rural residents together, it felt like something shifted. The welcome was genuine and generous — not just an open door, but an open heart — as if to say, Come on in. You belong here too. Let’s build community together.

The Consignment Shop

There is something special about a place where every item has a story–and for me, that place has been this wonderful consignment store located in Serenbe, a beautiful community in Chatt Hills, Georgia.

For the past nine years I managed this store, learning it’s rhythms, its customers, and the quiet magic of giving beautiful pieces a second life. Special thanks to Raina Newell, original owner who brought this store into existence by creating a space where people could shop, discover new items and leave with a favorite new piece.

Today, I’m proud to say that I

For me, that simple act carried real meaning. It felt like a reminder that our hamlets are not only places for those who live within them, but places where all Chattahoochee Hills residents can connect, share meals, and build friendships across our different corners of the city.

My hope is that this spirit of invitation will continue to grow — and that those of us who live outside the hamlets will also step forward in that same spirit. Community is something we build together, one conversation and one shared table at a time.

Grateful for the warm welcome — and hopeful for more evenings like this.

own this wonderful place and have renamed it The Consignment Shop. Under my ownership, the store still has that feel that customers know and love and with the team’s help we have elevated some aspects to make it even better.

Our motto has always been a well-done curation, sustainable style and thoughtful pricing. The Consignment Shop is excited to keep the momentum going with the brands we know our customers love.

We invite you to visit the store, explore our curated mix and maybe find a piece that feels like it was waiting for you.

The store is open daily from 11am to 7pm or you can visit our Instagram site at: @theconsignmentshop.tcs.

Cattapoochee Private Personalized Pet Care In Chatt Hills

Hi! My name is Cara Lucas-Edwards.

I’ve been a resident of Chattahoochee Hills since 2021, but—like many folks in our community—an animal person my entire life.

Moving from Atlanta to a rural part of Chatt Hills, I learned something fast—in-home pet care can be tough to come by locally. It’s great to know a neighbor will help you out in a jam, but I felt a need for myself that was bigger than the ad-hoc favor given by a kind neighbor who lived a few acres away AND happened to be available when I needed help for my two dogs and cat.

If I needed customized care for my pets, surely I wasn’t the only one in our community.

Our beloved animals are family, and they deserve quality no matter where they live. So, I’ve committed to help close that care gap, offering my in-home services to accommodate the pets (and people) of Chattahoochee Hills.

Whether you live on acres of land or in a local hamlet, retired or commuting into the city, out to dinner or on vacation… you can gain peace of mind when you’re away, knowing that your pets are well-cared for, loved, and happy until you’re home again.

From neighbor to neighbor, I look forward to meeting you and learning more about how I can help with your pet-care needs!

About Cattapoochee

Cattapoochee is a community-focused, boutique pet care company that specializes in providing companionship and care for your pets in the comfort of their own home.

Savory Spinach Waffles with Ricotta & Cheddar Cheeses

Whether you’re hosting crowd or it’s just the two of you, this is a great choice for an Easter brunch. My favorite way to serve these savory waffles is topped with a poached egg and a blanket of rich and creamy hollandaise sauce.

2 cups Belgian waffle mix

3 eggs, beaten

¾ cups water

1 cup whole milk ricotta

4 tablespoons butter, melted 3 oz. Monterey Jack cheese, freshly grated

3 cups fresh spinach, chopped 1 tablespoon chives, chopped

Quick & Easy Hollandaise Sauce

3 egg yolks

1 tablespoon lemon juice, or more as desired for flavor

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

¼ teaspoon salt

pinch of cayenne pepper

Toppings (optional): black forest ham, a fried or poached egg, avocado, salsa, hot sauce

Preheat your waffle maker to the desired heat setting. Combine eggs, water and ricotta in a large bowl. Add waffle mix then melted butter and stir gently until the mixture comes together. Fold in the cheddar cheese and the spinach. Brush the hot waffle iron with a light coating of oil, preferably avocado, (between each waffle) and cook waffles according to your waffle maker’s instructions. Serve with your choice of toppings or straight off the iron. If you’re cooking for a larger group, keep waffles warm in the oven as you go. Leftovers also reheat very well in the toaster or in the oven. Yields 4-6 waffles.

½ cup unsalted butter, or more for a thinner consistency, melted and HOT (that’s important)

Melt the butter either in a microwave (covered to avoid splatter) for about 1 minute, until it's hot or in a small pan on the stove.

Add the egg yolks, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, salt and cayenne pepper into a high powered blender and blend for 5 seconds until combined.

With the blender running on medium high, slowly stream in the hot butter into the mixture until it's emulsified.

Pour the hollandaise sauce into a small bowl and serve while warm.

Vitamix Hollandaise

4 large pasteurized egg yolks

1 Tablespoon lemon juice

1 teaspoon salt

1 pinch cayenne pepper

1 cup (225 g) unsalted butter, softened

Place the egg yolks, lemon juice, salt and cayenne/hot sauce into the Vitamix container in the order listed and secure lid. Select Variable 1.

Turn machine on and slowly increase speed to Variable 4. Blend for 30 seconds.

Remove lid plug and increase speed to Variable 5.

Slowly add melted butter in a thin steady stream, until mixture becomes thickened, approximately 55 seconds. Serve immediately.

Note:

Please be aware of what container size you are using. If you are using the Low-Profile container you will need to double this recipe.

I moved to Chatt Hills, Serenbe to be exact, two years ago. I found a wonderful kinship here with all of the artists who discovered Chatt Hills before me. There are many and their work is inspiring in a great variety of ways. It is an artist’s community, and I feel lucky to be part of it.

For the past decade I’ve worked for the Sportsman’s Gallery doing commissioned glassware, primarily dogs. I use craft acrylic paint and the glasses are fired in an oven to be dishwasher safe. If anyone is interested in learning the technique, please contact me and I can give you the details.

I am enjoying painting with another well-known Chatt Hills artist, Malinda Lively, and anyone else who joins us in my studio. After years of strict commission work, it is fun to find joy in creating again and I can highly recommend, for any type of creative endeavor, to step out of your comfort zone and allow time to play. At least it is working for me.

All of these works, except the painting at the top of this column, are recent and were done here in my Chatt Hills studio. The dog, a rescue, was a commission. The woman and horse? That is a self portrait, a memory of myself and my Arabian stallion. I may do more to it. Or I might not. And it is great to have that control.

Private Ceramics Classes at Minro Studio

Looking for a creative and memorable experience? Minro Studio offers private ceramics classes perfect for a dreamy date night, a special outing with a loved one, or a gathering with friends, coworkers, or family. Whether you’re celebrating a birthday, hosting a bridal shower, or planning a team event, your group will have the entire studio to yourselves. Participants can choose between wheel throwing or hand-building ceramics in a relaxed, welcoming environment. Each session lasts approximately two hours, and the Minro team handles all of the setup and cleanup so you can focus entirely on the creative process.

During the class, each person will create two to three pieces. At the end of the session, participants select a glaze for two of their pieces, and the studio team will complete the glazing and firing process.

Pricing:

$250 for two people

$100 per person for groups of three or more

The fee includes private studio time, clay, glaze, and kiln firing.

Because ceramics must be fired and glazed, finished pieces will be ready for pickup in approximately 4–6 weeks. Guests will receive an email when their work is complete. Visitors traveling from out of town may choose to have their pieces shipped for an additional fee. Finished works are held for 30 days after notification, though arrangements can be made if additional time is needed.

Minro Studio’s pottery wheels can accommodate up to

five people, and hand-building classes can host groups of up to 20.

If you do not see a date that works on the website, the studio welcomes inquiries and will try to accommodate alternative times.

Booking and inquiries:

Visit https://minrostudio.com or email hello@minrostudio. com to schedule your class. After booking, the studio will confirm the number of participants, class type, and final pricing.

Please note that cancellations are non-refundable, though classes may be rescheduled with two weeks’ notice. As with all ceramics, the process involves earth, water, air, and fire—sometimes breakage happens during firing. While refunds cannot be provided in those cases, the studio will offer a discount on a future class.

Minro Studio looks forward to welcoming you for a creative and memorable experience.

A Word from Campus Pastor Jeff Peek

Over 2000 years ago our world changed like never before, or since. A baby came on the scene, and the face of humanity has never been the same.

This was no ordinary baby, He is the very son of God, born of a virgin and came to earth to take away the sins of mankind. The baby’s name is Jesus.

Jesus felt many of the things we all feel as He grew in stature and became a teenager, a young man and then a full-grown man. Jesus lived a very short 33 years before He was put to death in a most cruel way.

Jesus, fully man, fully God did not hang out with the religious elect, the rulers of the day. Jesus hung out with the sick, the needy, the wayward ordinary people. Jesus came to this very planet to make a path to heaven for everyone. While here with His disciples Jesus encouraged them to let the children come to Him, He ate with the tax collectors, he forgave and loved the unlovable. God knew His creation was a sinful people, Romans 3:23 says “For all have sinned, and fall short of the Glory of God”

Breakfast will follow the Sunrise service at 7:45 am.

God loved His creation so much that He sent Jesus to earth, He lived and was crucified and took our punishment for our sins so that all who believes in Him as Lord and Savior will be Saved.

This is the Good News, you do not have to be perfect, just willing to Admit you’re a sinner, Believe in Him, Confess with your mouth that He is Lord, and You will be Saved.

My name is Pastor Jeff from Crossroads Church Chattahoochee Hills; we are a church of imperfect people who accepts everyone and have a place for you to belong.

Come as you are, experience a very laid back and loving atmosphere.

We are a church that models ourselves after the very first church, we have large and small groups. Our focus is Being & Building disciples of Jesus. We love our community, we are a place you can gather and feel comfortable as you encounter the One and Only living God.

Hope to see you soon, Campus Pastor Jeff Peek 678-416-1147, jpeek@crossroadsnewnan.org crossroadsonline.org

Community BRICKWORKS UPDATE

Brickworks 2026

Food Pantry

In February, the Food Pantry served 50 families (100 adults and 62 children.) Five of those families were new to need. In these uncertain times, rising costs and inflation are pushing many of our neighbors to the brink. Bills and income don’t always match up and staying above water can be very difficult. In Georgia, nearly 50% of families are not making a livable wage, which allows for food, housing, healthcare, and transportation.

When cars pull up to our food pantry each Wednesday, it’s not just about the plentiful bags of groceries our volunteers load into trunks. It’s about taking the time to check in with each family, building relationships and, in times of crisis, providing resources beyond food assistance. By providing fuel, clothing and housing referrals to the mother who is living in her car while her children are temporarily living with a coworker. By providing life-saving medication to the mother facing an expensive health crisis. Paying an abnormally high electric bill this winter for the disabled grandparents raising a kindergartner. It’s about dignity, health, and hope. Thanks to the support of our compassionate Chatt Hills community, we have been able to help with these challenges and so many more as we conclude our first quarter of 2026.

Library

It’s been a busy month here at the library. As our weekly events calendar has gained momentum, our behind the scenes work hasn’t slowed. In March, two of our newest

volunteers set out to complete the ongoing task of entering each of our books into our online database. Now, a goal that was set for completion in August 2026, is about to be wrapped up five months ahead of schedule! It’s not glamorous work. Some call it meditative, while others call it tedious. Either way, we are so grateful to have a staff of volunteers who have worked hard to get it done! Next stop, library cards!

In addition to all the updates to our book system, we are welcoming our second Chattahoochee Hills Local Artist collection. Please stop by the library to see a beautiful collection of watercolor paintings depicting flora and fauna of the Piedmont region. This beautiful collection was done by local, elementary aged students and will be on display through July.

As we continue to expand our offerings, we are eager to hear how we can best serve you. If you haven’t had a chance, please take a few minutes to complete our engagement survey. We will be collecting responses through April and are eager to hear from you! Fill out our survey here: https://forms.gle/kcpdigwFpw5MkF1AA

Honored Attendees in March

At the March meeting of the Chattahoochee Hills City Council, the City welcomed Robb Pitts, Fulton County Manager Dick Anderson, and Director of Public Works David Clark. Invited by Mayor Camille Lowe, the county officials addressed efforts to improve and more equitably share county services with the southern portion of Fulton County, including the Chattahoochee Hills community.

Black History event at City Hall

February 21 was the city’s first Black History event at City Hall. Awards were given to our heroes!

During Women’s History Month, we proudly celebrate the women whose service strengthens our community.

This year marks a historic milestone with the election of our first female mayor—a powerful reminder that anything is possible.

We honor the dedicated women of the City of Chattahoochee Hills whom we are proud to work alongside—our mayor, council members, police officers, clerks, and the many women working behind the scenes in our offices. Their leadership, commitment, and service help keep our city strong and moving forward.

Thank you for all that you do to serve and support our community. City of Chattahoochee Hills

Updated Speed Limits to Improve Safety in Chattahoochee Hills

As part of the City’s ongoing commitment to public safety, recently updated speed limits have been implemented on several roadways throughout Chattahoochee Hills. These changes are based on roadway conditions, traffic patterns, and the need to ensure safer travel for residents, cyclists, and pedestrians.

Many of our roads are rural in nature, with limited shoulders, curves, and increasing usage. Adjusting speed limits helps create a safer environment for everyone who uses our transportation network.

The following road segments have updated speed limits:

• Atlanta-Newnan Road (Hutcheson Ferry Rd to Old Rico Rd): 35 mph

• Atlanta-Newnan Road (Hutcheson Ferry Rd to Coweta County Line): 35 mph

• Campbellton-Redwine Road (near Rico Rd): 35 mph

• Cedar Grove Road (Rivertown Rd west toward SR 154): 45 mph

• Creel Road (Little Pea Creek to Rivertown Rd): 45 mph

• Hearn Road (Hutcheson Ferry Rd corridor): 35 mph

• Hutcheson Ferry Road (multiple segments): 35 mph

• Rico Road (near Campbellton-Redwine Rd): 35 mph

• Upper Wooten Road (Rico Rd to Campbellton-Redwine Rd): 35 mph

• Waterworks Road (to Coweta County line): 35 mph

• Watkins Road (Hutcheson Ferry Rd to Coweta County line): 25 mph

• Woodruff Road (Cochran Mill Rd to Rivertown Rd): 35 mph

These updates are intended to:

• Improve safety on narrow and winding roads

• Reduce the risk of crashes and injuries

• Reflect current roadway usage and conditions

• Promote consistency across similar road types

New signage has been installed and updated along these corridors. No citations can/will be issued within the first thirty days of these signs being erected. We ask all drivers to remain attentive and adjust their speed accordingly as they travel throughout the city.

Although these changes have been approved and permitted by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) as authorized under O.C.G.A. § 40-6-183, the section on Campbellton Redwine Road ¼ mile south of Rico Road and ¼ mile north of Rico Road that has been changed to 35 mph as well as a section on Rico Road south of Campbellton Road that has been changed to 35 mph was not listed in the Ordinance adopted. This Ordinance is being amended for consideration at the April 9th City Council Meeting.

Safe travel in Chattahoochee Hills is a shared responsibility. By observing posted speed limits and driving with care, we can help protect our neighbors, preserve the character of our roads, and ensure a safer community for all.

If you have questions about these changes, please contact City Hall for additional information.

Thank you for helping keep Chattahoochee Hills safe.

Civil Air Patrol Practice Search & Rescue

March 1 By

Our parks are something to be treasured and protected not only for Chatt Hills but for instance March 1st it was used by the civil air patrol to practice search and rescue using drones as well as a large group (about 50 people) in the background led by a social influencer on a hike. Cochran Mill Park alone boasts 18 miles of sustainable hiking, biking, and equestrian trails spread across its 800 acre footprint

Atlanta no longer has open spaces like this so our park is very useful to groups such as these.

The parks commision gave a short presentation on our parks, to City Council in March. The parks commision meetings are held each month and are open to the public.

The 2026 Comprehensive Plan Update is in full swing in March. Those part of the working group were broken out into five Working Groups organized around the following topic areas: Land Use, Housing and Economic Development, Transportation, Natural & Cultural Resources and Agriculture, Health and Wellness
