Michelle Lampkin - Candidate Campaign Statement

Why I’m Standing I’m a London Underground CSA on the Victoria Centre Group, a local Tier One Health & Safety rep, and a Tier Two Stations Safety Council rep. I’m standing to be your London Transport Region representative on the National Executive Committee (NEC) because I believe I can contribute to securing the best possible pay, terms and conditions for our members. Our NEC is made up of rank-and-file representatives, elected directly from the shop floor, who return to their jobs once their term is up. This means RMT is led by people with a direct link to our members on the ground. I want to ensure that fighting and winning on the issues that matter to our members is at the heart of what our union does.

My Record • Nominated by the majority of London Transport Region branches for the role of NEC • Organised a local dispute over management practices, which escalated into an international news event thanks to the hard work and inspired timing of my local members • Supported picket lines and demos outside of my own immediate area — including outside my function (on the Night Tube trains disputes), outside of LU (on multiple National Rail disputes and RFLI), outside of my industry (attending multiple demos supporting P&O workers in London and Dover during the fire and rehire debacle), and even outside the UK (self-funding my attendance at the worker-occupied factory in Florence, Italy) • Volunteered to send thousands of messages to ensure we met our thresholds in industrial action ballots, personally responding to members.
