RMT Health and Safety Conference 2025

RMT general secretary Eddie Dempsey addresses the conference A record busting 210 safety reps attended the Health and Safety Conference in York recently.

It has been brilliant to see the conference double in size over the last few years. Thanks go out to the RMT Health and Safety Advisory Committee reps who have worked hard to encourage attendance at the conference. Of the committee members, Stephen Morrow, put a lot of work in to encouraging reps from Scotland to attend – 13 in total.

General secretary Eddie Dempsey opened the conference by explaining that safety is at the centre of everything the RMT do – that it’s not just a policy for us, it is a lifeline.

Former NEC rep for Scotland, Willie Strang, was remembered at the conference. Willie, long-time chair of both the RMT Health and Safety Advisory Committee and Health and Safety Conference, who sadly passed away in 2024 was an elected National

Rotimi Ajayi (AJ), from Paddington No1 branch moved the composite resolution on staff assaults. The resolution called on RMT to submit a campaign strategy addressing the necessary legal, industrial, and political actions required for the protection and safety of frontline transport workers. The conference agreed to send the resolution to RMT AGM for debate. It was submitted following the fatal attack on RMT
