Published by RMIT's Bowen Street Press i, this richly illustrated book celebrates McCraith House (completed 1957). The book tells the story of the design and construction of the house, it's use by the family, and its new life as a site for creative residencies.
The remarkable ‘Butterfly House’ is an architectural landmark on the Mornington Peninsula. It was commissioned by Gerald and Nell McCraith and designed by David Chancellor (Chancellor & Patrick).
In 2013 the House along with an archive of the house’s design, construction and use by the family was donated to RMIT University.
RMIT University then established a residency program to foster creative practice and research across all creative disciplines, and this program has inspired and galvanised more than 80 creative practitioners.
Contributors include architectural historian, Winsome Callister, Bin-Dixon Ward, RMIT Design Archives and Bowen Street Press' Editorial and Production students.
