“In late July of 2024, we went in for what we thought was a routine anatomy
ultrasound for our twins. At our appointment, we discovered Sharon was 5 cm dilated, and at 21 weeks gestation, both boys were at risk for a preterm birth. Sharon was able to remain on bed rest for six days at Mercy Springfield Labor and Delivery. On August 4, 2024, we welcomed Weston and Elijah into the world at only 21 weeks and 6 days gestation. Six hours later, our sweet Elijah went to be with the Lord. During our six-day stay in Labor and Delivery, we knew our boys would have a NICU stay. We lived 1.5 hours away from the hospital and also had a 2.5-year-old son at home whom we missed dearly. It was then that we learned about the Ronald McDonald House located in the hospital. All our fears of being away from our children were put to rest when God provided this opportunity for us. As soon as Sharon was discharged, the Ronald McDonald House had a room available for us. They even provided a larger room to give our 2.5-year-old more space. They accommodated our need for family members to visit, provided for us in countless ways, and surrounded us with love during some of the most difficult times of our lives. They took away the burden of planning meals, traveling, and housing, which allowed us to focus fully on our son who was fighting to survive in the NICU. Weston was eventually transferred to St. Louis Children’s Hospital, where once again the Ronald McDonald House took care of us. Weston is now home, thriving, and meeting all of his adjusted-age milestones. We are forever grateful for this wonderful organization that truly brought our family together.”
