“Two months ago, our family’s world was turned upside down in the blink
of an eye. Our 10-year-old son, Wyatt, had a bicycle accident that left him seriously injured. After several events following his bike accident, we rushed him to the ER, terrified and unsure of what was happening, only to learn that the accident had caused internal bleeding and a ruptured pancreas. Things escalated quickly, and the doctors made the decision to have him air-evacuated to Springfield for specialized care. Knowing he was being flown away was one of the hardest moments of our lives. In the middle of the fear and chaos, we were introduced to the Ronald McDonald House, and it was truly a light in the darkness for our family. We stayed there for about three days while Wyatt received treatment, and from the moment we walked through the doors, we were met with nothing but kindness and compassion. Every single person there made us feel cared for, understood, and supported when we desperately needed it most. The Ronald McDonald House became so much more than just a place to stay; it became our home away from home during that difficult time. There were warm meals waiting for us after long hours at the hospital, a cozy room where we could rest and shower, and people who went out of their way to make sure we didn’t feel alone. The entire atmosphere radiated love and peace, which meant everything during those long, emotional days. One moment that touched us deeply was when Wyatt was given a handmade quilt made by one of the wonderful volunteers there. He held onto it so tightly, and with his sweet, caring heart, he said he would cherish it forever because he felt like someone made it just for him. It represented the kindness and thoughtfulness that the Ronald McDonald House is built upon. Even though our stay was short, the impact will stay with us for a lifetime. We met other families walking through their own difficult journeys, and we were reminded that hope and compassion can exist even in the hardest of times. We will never forget the love and comfort we found within those walls. They gave us a sense of peace when everything else was uncertain, and we will always be grateful for that gift. Their hearts truly make a difference, one family at a time.”
